I think a lot of people are starting to like living in villages and smaller towns, so we need to focus on that too! I'm really interested in village and farm architecture. It's interesting that all of the new building technologies are already widely being used in cities, but they could be of great use in villages too. We also need to promote living in villages to more people because it's good for mental health and for better life quality. My imagination is full of "conceptual villages", like a small village with few families that take the most out of nature but give back even more, and they all live in unity and work together... I hope I find the way to make it work.

Archi Gal, I would agree that this area of smaller villages is a crucial part of how we continue to development. I think it would also be amazing to see a village model built into city models bringing emphasis back to neighborhoods and communities. What the future is going to actually look like it's hard to say, but the possibilities are endless. Working together and building on each other's ideas and strengths we can do anything.

As good as Revit has been... AutoDesk needs to focus on what's next. Revit is an old program. Architects need tools that work faster and reduce the friction between design and documentation.

Revit is not the problem; it is the users. There is no amount of technology that can replace human intelligence in understanding the complete life cycle of design and construction. It is a faulty assumption that technology can solve problems in the industry. There are architectural firms that still don't know the entire supply chain process that are built-in Revit's database. When you talk about technology, you need to consider the supply chain and contract administration as part of the whole process. Clients are paying for the entire cycle not only the design process. And this is the problem that I see in this presentation. I've been involved in megaprojects for 3 decades and I'm still amuzed how pencil and mylar can beat the technology-driven mindset.

Having also worked on megaprojects we revert quite often to tertiary tools; whether that is pencil and trace or third-party plugins to help solve a problem that Revit itself created. I would agree that the architect's understanding is the most powerful thing we posses, but at the end of the day you have to be able to communicate that understanding; whether that's with a computer, or pen and paper... both of those are technologies.

Hi Dami! This was an amazing, informative video! High quality and captivating!! Amazing work! Question: I recently visited South India and interacted with a few architects there, they mostly follow a traditional design process for building as its the best at adapting to the weather condition of the region. Wondering if you noticed any future tech at the exhibit that would support and revolutionize the way architects design/construct in these tropical countries?

Absolutely engaging segment. Architecture still remains a rigid process under cost restraints and risk liability. Yet, as you’ve so elegantly explained, the future of more boundless conceptual design, fabrication and execution is so enticingly anticipated ahead. (I’ve personally witnessed AutoDesk evolve from v2.0 when watching a pen plotter slowly etching out a 2D door symbol was a hypnotic experience akin to witchcraft :). But I definitely see where FMS/Owners in particular will continue to benefit greatly from the streamlined scalable data applications that AutoDesk is continuing to forge forward into common practice. Time to pass out those sustainable organic Lego sets at the staff meetings..!

Yeah for sure, the most interesting improvements for me are the ones that simply help us improve communication (within teams and with the public) and our already existing processes, but getting architects to adopt these new methods into their already busy schedules and tight fees will be another challenge in itself. 😆

Hi Dami! Even after watching so many of your videos, I’m still confused about the difference between an architect and an interior designer. From what I understand, an architect does the exterior of a structure and the overall design without the interior. And an interior designer does the furniture, lighting and all that stuff. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Would be great if you could explain it to me clearly in brief. And if this is so, when do civil engineers come into play? Hope you answer my questions.

Many times, architects also take on interior design work, but interior designers typically only do interior work. Civil is responsible for site work, eg. how to connect the building to the district's water line, which also impacts the building. Hope this helps. That space looks so cool, looks like an amazing experience. Use revit every day, and it's for the most part a good program. But man, autodesk, please be quicker at adding features the community is longing for. Also why the heck can you set an ACC model publish to daily, when I can see all the days in design collaboration. And I really hope more contractors and site managers take up the AR / ACC, BIM360 field work, so our engineering drawings actually get used to their full potential. So much time could be saved if we used 3D models, instead of prepping so many 2D drawings, that I feel like should be outdated.

I found it interesting that you said that buildings produce 40% of global emissions. What I have learned recently is that the human race only produces about 2% of global emissions, 10% for volcanos and the sea produces about 50% of the carbon dioxide. So, based on this, it doesn't matter what we do, even if we didn't exist, the earths climate would still change. Oh, great videos by the way, you've inspired me to work on my own creations. Hi Dammi, as a non-architect, non-design person I only can say your content is quite amazing. If I would, I'd like sugest you interview this marvelous portuguese architect Mariana Cabugueira. She is a former Zaha Hadid designer and now is working with the metaverse space. Since metaverse is a new version of how information is displayed on internet and your work is ralated with information and space I think it would be a super interesting conversation. I'd say that because the framework* is uncertain and the number of variables is large....the mosaic approach is much easier, and a more wise way to go. And more fitting to the coming age. The NEXT GOLDEN AGE is right around the corner, and this will bring wisdom back, and wisdom will affect everything we create, because it's good and true, and it cares for nature too. We tend to get caught up in the hype of new technologies and new abstract ideas, and that's cool....but we can save that for the VR realms...and bring sanity back to the "REAL" world. Mosaic is the way because it provides maximal interplay among all of the senses. Such was the painterly strategy "since Cezanne," to paint as if you HELD, rather than as if you SAW, objects. This is what we're gonna do to get this place back in order and feeling good. *Framework meaning that....in this era we have seen how there are no sure things, and so we must bring our big ideas back into a more sane realm. Utilizing what we have, instead of chasing all these things trying to keep up with technology. Let's use what we have. Master that. Then slowly bring new things back in. But we have to start with WISDOM. Otherwise, we will get screwed again.

Yeah totally, I think what impressed me about this is the implementation of this tech onto real projects. Developing new tech is one thing, but actually getting people to use it on something as complex and nuanced as construction is half the battle!

I hope that we see a more modernization of the building industry, it's lacking behind big tech and the likes. It's a very conservative field, which is so slow to adapt to change.

The concern about ballooning populations is justified, but an equally important piece to consider is population decline. Potentially within our lifetimes, the global human population will DECLINE for the first time in centuries. In many developed countries, this is already happening - and the effects on society, economics, culture, and yes, the built environment, are profound. We've become so accustomed to a constant game of growth, growth, growth, which has largely been made possible by burgeoning populations. What happens when that growth fades? It'd be cool to look at the intersection of capitalism's "growth" priority and the built environment, and think about what that might mean for a future where the curve begins to bend.

There is a general misconception about the human population that needs to be addressed. We are decreasing rapidly in population count, in all first world the birth rate has decreased in the last 20 years by an astonishing 550%. Overall, there are three different scenarios, which the most pessimistic gives less than 6 Billion people by 2300.

Honestly, I find this very upsetting. because now we will see less detailed building that you'd come across in cities across Europe but instead more piles of glass and cement, to home the ever increasing population. I still think cities can be built without skyscrapers again look at Europe, but I also understand that we need to prepare for the continuing growth of the population. Anyways I just think the direction we're heading in will make us less imaginative (pay less attention to detail) and utterly more depressive.

Are we that level of inhibited and supressed that we are unable to imagine anything else beyond what has already been and done?? the past was villages towns and cities the future is merely more of the same,,,,,,,,, clearly we have seriously stagnated because it seems we are now unable to imagine anything else....... that's a .major tragedy for humanity,,,,,,, we have lost something vital somewhere along our human journey....Conformity and regulations are dampening everything that made us what we are....Now we have become a species of followers that have more confidence in the past that's been than the future that could be,,,,,, and its real sad to see...
