To give you a bit of context regarding the beer situation: The catering company that is hired by Wuppertaler SV messed up. They need the mentioned licence (granted by the city of Wuppertal). They are working on it for a few weeks now but are unable to get it for some unknown reason. So no it is not about sunday, the league or anything like that, it is just a "local fuck up" that lead to them not being able to sell any alcohol

@ici_marmotte3 күн бұрын
@@tombecker6790 Exactly, Wuppertal just as we know it. :D This is really embarrassing for the catering company and for our club as well: Hiring a new company not even capable of taking care of its core business in a German football stadium, in other words pouring out loads of beer and frying loads of Bratwursts, especially being well prepared for the rush during half time. Apparently, there was no rush this time as there was no beer available. This could have been the very first time an English football KZbinr couldn't get a beer inside the stadium during a German 4th tier match! There are English football fans coming to Germany who appreciate the most that you can still watch a football game on standing terraces with a beer in their hand and (for some) still being allowed to smoking cigarettes inside the stadium for relatively moderate ticket prices in Germany. Even though I think ticket prices in German football aren't that moderate anymore compared to about 15 years ago, even though WSV was still part of the newly introduced 3. Liga back then. I feel really sorry for Ry as he literally got a 'cheeky glimpse' ;) of why our hometown club has such an ambiguous reputation even in the city itself, not to mention all these Bundesliga sides in this area of Germany...at least the guy sitting next to you (Thomas, maybe the user above I'm referring to?) seemed to be a likeable person. It would also have been a nice opportunity for the club to take note of Ry's announcement to come to the Stadion am Zoo and showing him a bit of the inside of the stadium by a nice and friendly person prior to the game in order to to try to regain some confidence back after decades of almost constant disappointment. Not just in the city of Wuppertal, but also in the UK, the whole European mainland and worldwide. Ry is approaching 30k subscribers which is still a quite remarkable number and this channel will probably get more and more attention within the next months. So the club could have showcased itself a bit for free(!), especially in these difficult times for the club. Another missed opportunity...

To be honest, there is a general ban on alcohol in the Regionalliga West. However, clubs can apply for exceptions, which are always approved (typically German). Only the catering company in Wuppertal is currently having problems... Section 19 of the WDFV's ‘minimum safety standards’ for the Regionalliga West states that: The sale and public distribution of alcoholic beverages is generally prohibited before and during the match within the entire enclosed area of the pitch. With the express consent of the local security authorities, with the decisive involvement of the responsible police authority, the organiser may exceptionally serve beer on his own responsibility, depending on local conditions

This is the chorus of a song called 'Et Lehnchen', written and recorded by a local band called 'Striekspöen' a few decades ago who used to sing their songs in an old dialect once spoken by a lot of people in and around Wuppertal. WSV fans like to put their scarves out to sing this probably best-known song about the city. It can look quite impressive when Wuppertal has an away match with a really packed away end with a number of let's say 2.000 or even more and everyone puts his or her scarf out to sing it out with quite a bit noise! But a real decent number of away fans like this or even more from Wuppertal is very rare nowadays in the 4th tier as long as we're not REALLY near the top of the table aka promotion except for big cup matches or derby days in Essen, promoted to the 3rd tier not too long ago in 2022. The song itself is about a girl ('Lehnchen' gets understood as the diminutive of a female name in German) everyone knows and likes and who's living right next to the 'Tippen-Tappen-Tönchen' which is the name of the most famous staircase in Wuppertal with a very quirky name even in German, but it's the actual and an official street name on the maps and a postal address anyway. A little background: Wuppertal is the city with the most stairways in Germany due to its location in a valley bottom, hence the name Wuppertal (which translates to 'Wupper valley' in English or the old word 'dale' just like for Rochdale afaik which even doesn't sound that difficult to the German word). Anyway, it's more about the city itself and less about the girl... :D And, most importantly, probably no single person outside of Wuppertal in Germany would be able to understand it completely as the original version was recorded in the dialect spoken in Wuppertal. It's quite a challenge to speak and understand this dialect, so it's rarely fully spoken today, so even most of the Wuppertal fans are singing it in Standard German, or something in between... :D

Mate. Had I know there was another Brit there!! I was there with my boy standing in the away end. Atmosphere was a little flat tbf. But the stadium is a weird one, no question. I live only a 5 minute walk from the Nordkurve of the Borussia-Park, yet I’m an MSV fan. It was a fun day out. Oh…..and the Bratwurst in the away end only cost €3 ;-) The chips were €5 though, and small!!! 2:1 win which was fine. WSV had a new manager for that game, so the put in a shift. Made it tricky. Next game is away to KFC (not the chicken!!) KFC also a lot of history. Beat Bayern Munich in the cup final in 1985. Then played in Europe next season. Got to the semi-final of the cup winners cup. Had one of the highest European comebacks that season, to score 6 second half goals in the second left to defeat Dynamo Dresden. So that’s our next away game. Great fun.

The german word for it is "Schwebebahn" Meaning "Hovering/Floating train" Fun fact: It was opened all the way back in 1901! It was the only way to build a "subway" system in the area cause the city lies in a valley so there was no space for an actual train line and its also on top of sturdy rock and digging into that was also deemed impossible. so building this system mostly above the river was a genius idea.. Regarding the alcohol.. youre right, this was considered a "high-risk" game so alcohol was not available THIS match.. usually it is in every stadium in germany. You dont even need a special license to sell alcohol and sunday has no impact on that either.. what we used to do for these high risk matches was smuggling in spirits like rum or whisky in small amounts and mix with the available coke.. so youd have a nice long drink instead of a beer while watching the match

Fun Facts: They dropped part of their name. Wuppertaler SV (Spielvereinigung = Playing Association) merged in 2004 with another Wuppertal based Club called SV Borussia Wuppertal in the same league, creating "Wuppertaler SV Borussia". Many claimed it was a hostile takeover, as the club did not change colours or badge, just adding the word "Borussia" and signing two of their players. 2013 they got rid of the "Borussia" part after a supporters vote. // The club itself has some history, going from First League in the 50s and partially 70s down to fifth division and up to third again, nearly missing qualifiyng for 2. Bundesliga several times. 1999 they were even relegated because of not paying Employer's liability insurance contributions.

So the "Wuppertaler H*rensöhne" chant is used not only by Duisburg but by almost everyone playing them. Only a few others come to my mind that have their own chant against them german wide. Of course Bayern with "zieht den Bayern die Lederhosen aus" or the Leverkusen one (feel free to look that one up, some people think it might be homophobic). Werder seem to smell like fish and Schalkes name is often confused with the German word for shit. WSV answered with "Meidericher H*rensöhne", Meiderich being the part of Duisburg that MSV is from (M in MSV is for Meiderich). Funny thing about Wuppertal: they are friends with Fenerbahce so other teams (at least ive seen Essen do it. MSV might aswell sing it) like to sing "Ihr seid nur Dönerverkäufer" meaning "you are only Kebab sellers".

Regionalliga West IS actually a league. Please correct this completely false headline of yours.
@RysFootyParadise7 сағат бұрын
@@TheRubyrott you’re misinterpreting what it means in English - non league football doesn’t mean it’s NOT a league 🤣 means all the clubs aren’t “professional” full time 👍🏾 Big clubs in England like Oldham who were in the Premier League - play in non league

@RysFootyParadise You're mistaken in your claim that Regionalliga-players aren't playing fulltime or not being professional players, yet they are. Where do you get your informations from, mate? 🤣

Allianz Arena is just another plastic Event Arena which only was build to make more money and of course more and more money. No Soul, no history, no atmosphere. And on top of it, its in fcking bavaria...which is more austrian than german anyway.
@normaler18703 күн бұрын
@@geronimo4592 And what's the problem with plastic? At least the Allianz Arena is covered, you don't get sick when it rains. So you want to stand in the rain and get sick, go ahead. I'd rather have a great modern stadium. The Allianz Arena is the most beautiful in Germany, followed by the Veltins Arena.
@michaelmueller95233 күн бұрын
You just cannot compare such modern arena with an old traditional sports ground. I also like our modern arena in Düsseldorf...but these stadiums like the one in Wuppertal are definitely more charming...
