Hey guys! This week I took a quick adventure to Nevada to check in on two mining towns I've wanted to go to for a while. Gold Point, Nevada and Goldfield, Nevada. Both were important mining towns back in the day. Both provide inspiration and ideas on my efforts at Cerro Gordo.
On the way back, I stopped by the Bristlecone Pine Forest, home to the oldest trees in the world! It was a nice day off the mountain that gave me all sorts of new ideas.
I'm rapidly coming up on my 1-year anniversary of being at Cerro Gordo full-time! I'm putting a lot of work into a recap video and can't wait to share that with you in a few weeks.
I really appreciate all the support for this channel and the town. It's really made this past year up here special. Thank you.

@@Lib3x Nuh Uh. The oldest individual tree in the world is a 5,066 year-old Great Basin bristlecone pine, in the White Mountains of California. Old Tjikko is a 9,550 year-old ‘clonal’ tree that has regenerated *new* trunks, branches and roots over millennia rather than an *individual tree of great age* now go get you a lollipop.

A line you said really hit me. “These are 5000 year old trees growing on mountains that are billions of years old. You know, it’s insane. It’s too much to comprehend, and I think we need that sometimes. Something so much bigger than us that we can’t comprehend it. It shrinks our problems back down to their appropriate size.” When I heard that I literally looked at my wall and said, “dang he’s right.”

This comment deserves more than trolling comments. Your intelligence is the most important thing you have. I see what you're saying. We numb . But we have ways to understand how magical we are. It took 4-5 billion years for all the "energy" to cool and make matter (hydrogen) eventually making suns that explode to make the iron in your blood. We are beautiful mistakes, math says there is alien life, but our math right now says it's literally impossible to get to. I get caught up in these things sometimes.

Something that does evolve quickly is the quality of your channel! The narriaton, the composition and quality both of the handheld and of the drone footage combined with superb editing with the perfect balance of calm scenes still without the being too long, all topped up by a good selection of background music, that supports the visual experience in the right volume. I was with this channel from the beginning, and if you don’t fall into a mine shaft, this journey will be a valued part of my life ass well as yours. I grew up (I'm 38) LISTENING to Gunsmoke! We were poor, didn't have a TV. On Sunday evenings NPR would have a radio program called "The Big Broadcast". They played all the great old shows. Gunsmoke, Lum N' Abner, Dragnet, Johnny Dollar, etc. My Dad would spread blankets on the living room floor, and my little sister and I would fall asleep to the old radio programs. Those are the very sweetest memories I have of my childhood. I still listen to them today, to fall asleep at night. Someday, hopefully I could visit Cerro Gordo, and experience the Wild West, too! ♥️

To 3:40 I think it's funny that many Americans think 100-200 years old buildings are ancient and think of them as relics of the past, and then there is me that still lives in a 230 years old building within Europe...

We don't think they're ancient. We just think they're old. They are relics of the past. A building from the 60s that's abandoned is a relic of the past. Oh, and fyi, I grew up on the east coast where we have plenty of houses from the 1700s and 1800s that are still inhabited.

It’s is interesting, but different parts of the United States view the past differently as well. In some parts, the oldest things are only 200 years old, but where I’m from in New England, people are still living in buildings from the 1600s. It doesn’t compare to Europe’s ancient history, but it’s what we got and we’re happy with it. And you’re right, they are relics of our past, just like your old building is a relic of your country’s past.

True. My grandparents house was built in 1108 in the English Lake District. However, what also amazes me is, albeit short, the rich history of the California coast. Fascinating, bloody, and colorful, yet packed into just a couple of hundred years. It may have been unsettled for longer, yet it make a the history no less fascinating and worthy of preservation.

You, and me and pretty much everybody else have no idea WHY they are like that. I feel sad for those folk, but I sure never wish any ill will on them. It saddens me more how so many online folk turn on people, without knowing the WHY of those folks lives. I'm not a believer in religion, but I do believe that "let those without failings/fears/pain" and every other bad thing that happens to folks, cast the first stone. Hate breeds hate. Nasty words breeds nasty words. I also bet that Brent wouldn't stoop to reacting nastily to anyone who clicks the thumbs down on his videos.
