I imagine people here already played the game and are well aware of the spoilers. I absolutely LOVE Iadakan as a narrative driving character. Like once you know he was dying, and was aware of it, everything starts to line up with what he was doing. He knew he didn’t have long with his wife, so kept the quill in his coat at all times to cherish the time he did have. He knew he was becoming atrophied, and would be out of breath really quickly doing the wedding shoot alone. So he wanted to benefit all parties and give Inco and Ben one final, true lesson before his time was up. He knew he wouldn’t make it to his original lesson plan, and jumped ahead to allow both Olivia and Inco their materials of choice as a final parting gift. He knew anything he broke now wouldn’t affect him down the road even if caught, and wanted to truly show Olivia he understood, and cared. And he knew Olivia would stress herself to prove herself to him with the new painting, and forced her not to create it as long as he could hold out. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a character more realistically, and positively lit in a narrative game like this. You were a true friend, Professor. And as for the writers who created that character, THANK YOU for all you’ve done. Never stop creating.

Oh for sure. I also really enjoyed Ben as a character. He was an enigma too until that final winter celebration. Then it all lined up too. I just wish there were a choice in that ending to let him know that being on any sort of medication is perfectly okay, and that whatever mental disorder he was diagnosed with isn't something to be ashamed of. He's still a bro, like a second Naser.

@@HowlingWolf518 Haven’t gotten the chance to play through those endings yet. My first was 1, then I fixed the interactions I scuffed like the back bumper of an Altima and scraped my way into 4. Glad I got worst first TBH. I got best first in Snoot Game, and going back for the worse options was painful. At least here I could only go up. We also now know he likely suffers from either schizophrenia or acute psychopathy, and was actively trying to make himself better for the sake of others. I can’t be mad at the guy for getting it wrong. His mind is a mess, and he needs help. He said it himself.

The dance scene gets me every time, seeing Olivia push herself to rise above her disability just to give the one she truly cares and loves, one more magical moment on already perfect night no matter how short lived, is nothing less than all kinds of inspiring. Not something your get from mainstream shows or games, it's cheesy and genuine in all the right ways which most modern writers are too cynical for. Add in the bad ends that are handled realistically and with some class and that dance suddenly becomes even more of tear jerker. TLDR, this game proofed I still have an heart some where as I openly cried with joy the first time and nearly do each time I rewatch it again |D

Ironically, this is not the first/second time 4channers have made a visual novel dating sim with disabled chars. The name escapes me but it's a typical anime styled one that was made in the past during the boom of such games and all the potential girlfriends are handicapped in some way (one is an amputee, another is blind I think?, another has a speech impediment? my memory of the game is foggy). Edit: Katawa Shoujo was the name of the game

And yeah, it kinda is, but it isn't the focus or the point. so, in short, your choices lead olivia into a depressed rut after iadakan's passing. She spends all the time absent from school and being generally apathetic towards anyone, because the one person that understood her was gone. During the memorial speech she breaks down and you take a picture of her in her lowest state: broken and forlorn. You justify this by telling her: you looked so sad it was strangely beatiful. She then despises you, which you regret instantly, which you desperately try to fix by 'hugging it out'. She doesn't like the idea and forces herself from you, despite the staircase being right behind her. EDIT: as for the black eye, damien whoops your ass on the balcony and destroys your camera

I gotta say Iadakan felt like not just a mentor and teacher to Olivia and Inco. It really felt like he was one to the player as well, he talked about so many things that I didn't realize I struggled with till I played the game. Hell it never clicked he was gonna pass away until it started to describe how the other teachers were acting and after Olivia had been called away, I think I pretty much ignored it because i didn't want it to be true. So hearing about his death tore me apart, it felt like I myself lost a mentor and teacher, I can't tell you how hard I hard I cried at the news, I legit had to stop playing for a few minutes to ball my eyes out before seeing how Inco and Olivia would take it as well, sadly at the same time this was on my way to the 1st ending, and i hadnt realized it, so it hurt 100x worse.

I witnessed a friend fall down the stairs who had passed away about a week or two later. I saw him lying there in a similar way. I pray that She didn't die ! He wasn't in a wheelchair though.

actually yes and this is expanded on much more clearly why it had to happen if you have ben's story unlocked and ending 4 going. essentially that painting is only there because ben is jealous that olivia is so crippled that everyone knows she is and so she gets easy access to help, as opposed to ben having schizophrenia (i think) and having to go out of his way to get help which is extremely hard for him. So he tries to force olivia to get help she doesn't need by publishing the painting in his paper and after that painting is published thats when she started blocking off the people from her life due to everyone just looking down on her like she's some charity case who needs to be babied her whole life, however when inco came along Iadakan both physically and metaphorically tore down those walls by letting inco into her life / destroying the painting that essentially ruined her life.

I’m not sure you guys noticed but I think the whole game is a metaphor or something. By that I mean that gator isn’t actually a gator she looks like that based on the main characters perspective along with the others. They’re really just humans in real life. That I believe because I have seen something like this before where the main character sees people as animals not humans.
