It took a total stranger to help me with my hair. That day I learned water, oil, leave-in conditioner & twist out styles were my best friends. And trimming, very important. I know we don't want to lose that length but that snagging at the end of a comb through is all bad.

She clearly has some issues accepting her beautiful black self. But he can't force her to accept what she doesn't like. That would make for a different show. He gave her something to work with until she figures out the rest and that's how it should be. She needs to take the time to figure out why being a natural bothers her. This is a psychological problem. He doesn't have Dr. in front of his name.

So not liking something about your hair means you aren't accepting your culture? Why do you think she has a hard time distinguishing what she wants vs what everyone tells her she should look like?

@@kirrafour1689 nobody has this problem but black people. You don’t see no other group of people crying about how they hate their hair, why is that? I’m just seeing these comments. This can’t be as simple as not liking your hair and no one is crying a river because they don’t like a hairstyle one day. She said it herself that she is not happy yet she loves versatility. Culture isn’t in contention either but ethnicity is. That said, the naps are part of her roots and if anything she should be rejoicing that she has a head full of that hair. Her cries are a horrible reflection of insecurity that society has brought out of her. When you don’t give a damn is when happiness really begins. That starts with acceptance and then value. Take it or leave it!

It's like they're going to him for more than a hairstyle and education about their hair, they're going to him expecting him to be able to make them love their Afro hair in it's natural state, and he CAN'T do that for them. That takes internal work. Work they may not even be willing to do.

I was expecting more from this show. They should get a group of natural hair stylists. There's so many styles we can do & we're not seeing them here, just the same old tired weaves & straightening. If it's extensions make it be our hair type. Where is the innovation?
@tanishaandrea
@tanishaandrea 3 жыл бұрын
I was soooooo disappointed with the decision to straighten her hair. Her natural hair looks absolutely gorgeous and full. I was hoping that he would have done a style that accentuated her natural hair and showed her that her hair in its natural state is beautiful. The straight hair looked nice as well but I think moisturizing and defining her curls to show her that she does not need straight hair, a wig or a weave to be beautiful would have been more affective. Straightening her hair played right into the narrative that natural hair isn’t beautiful in it’s fro like state and we need it to be long and straightened, which is a damn lie. For the women watching this show and not knowing how to care for their natural hair and feeling the way she does, you have taught them that straightening your hair is the solution to feeling beautiful.

Agreed. Her natural hair is gorgeous. However, her issues go beyond hair. He can't play therapist for her nor help her figure out where her deep rooted (no pun intended) issues come from. Her problem with her hair is a psychological one, like many black women. He can only address one problem. The rest she needs to work out either with herself or someone else.

@@scee8474 yeah I can definitely see where she’s coming from, thinking her natural hair isn’t beautiful, bc I fell that way too (I had my hair in braids or straightened all my life) What I think it’s boiled down is a little bit of internalized hate of her natural hair. She should of definitely gave natural a try before knocking it out because she might just like it and feel better about herself. Just a thought tho

I'm so so happy we are educating these girls to finally embrace their natural hair! Don't get me wrong, wigs and weaves are fine and can help keep the natural hair protected but there's something so heartbreaking about just hating your hair. I know because I have very curly thick hair and I grew up around people who had straight hair. They made me flat iron it for years and up until 5 years ago it was so dry and damaged. I really wish we had these videos when I was growing up😭 I'm just happy that with the amount of awareness out there that nobody has to feel the same way I did and how many black women felt growing up and not feeling pretty.

I know your hair was just taken out of an elastic and floofed a bit, but even then it still looks beautiful, at least it does to me. I wish I had volume and curls like you do. The maintenance is probably a pain in the ass, but my betty spaghetti straight hair sucks even more. Lol I really wanted to see a full episode or the transformation part. Let him do the voodoo he does so well. Work his magic. Fall back in love with your roots (meant in more ways than one.) You are a beautiful black woman. Wear your natural curls proudly. Don't let anyone tell you how to feel about yourself, either. We need more love in this world. Especially towards ourselves. We can be our own worst enemy. Sending love to you and anyone who feels similar, if not the same. 🖖❤️

But I understand we all have insecurities but I just find it sad that we bring each other down versus bringing each other up ❤ so everytime when I see someone with they’re natural I have to compliment it or even a weave or braids

He ends up putting ole lunch lady straight press on it.🙄 I thought she wanted to be happy with her hair the way it grew out of her head. Her fro was bomb, fresh and modern. She just needed lil moisture and shape. Heat chemically changes the bonds in the hair. So, once u flat iron, your hair is not "natural" anymore. This show doesn't know what it wants to do. Are u going to perpetuate eurocentric beauty standards or not? I want to see an actual naturals show like this. His work is stale.

@@politereminder6284 You should consult your 5th grade science teacher bc heat causes a chemical change not a physical change. That means it may look acceptable to you after heat but there will be a perceptible change after applying heat.
@politereminder6284
@politereminder6284 Жыл бұрын
@@void________ Yes, ithere is a chemical change, but *a reversible one* REVERSIBLE CHEMICAL CHANGES: . Hair Hydrogen bonds break under heat, and then reform when the hair cools in the straight shape. The same thing happens twhen you add water to straight or curly hair . Hydrogen bonds break and then reform when the hair dries. That's why trichologists and hair care specialists advise people not to manipulate or comb their hair when it is dripping wet from the shower. But to us black women, the temporary hydrogen bond breakage is to our advantage, hence why many of us style while wet- so the hair can dry in a mould. *As long as you don't apply so much heat as to break di-sulphide bonds, the chemical change of heat is reversible, and hair can curl up again. , kind of like how ironing your clothes at the correct temperature is reversible.* PHYSICAL CHANGES : Now, on a physical level, extreme and abrupt heat does expand the hair shaft and can cause physical cracks and cuticle damage. But the same happens when you comb your hair too hard, or manipulate it when it is not moisturized or when it's protein levels have gone down.

I just don't believe they ALL loved the results. They wanted to love THEIR OWN hair....not their own hair relaxed and straightened and added to...that's not THEM (how they were biologically and genetically intended to be by GOD). YOU ARE ALREADY OKAY and if you don't like it that's on you...get therapy...get real...but don't get fooled that another salon dependent YOU is an improvement. Kick the stylist and love youSELF as you are. If we don't do that - what have we accomplished other than to bow down to the economy that depends on us feeling awful about ourselved (they do this on purpose) so we will try to BUY our way out of it >... like this.
