I thought the show was gonna be more about addressing how to fix the underlying issues, not just cover them with a wig. I understand how the styles can serve as a protective style while their hair recovers, but I hoped the conversation in the show would be more about how to take care of their natural hair. I loved the second girls natural hair so much and was so so sad when they gave her a relaxer. Again, I understand that if they’re happy, it’s all that matters, but I did think the show was going to focus on learning to embrace and work with our natural hair.

i really do not understand the second clients transformation. Wasnt relaxer part of her issue/trama?? I really don't understand why he did that. Like yeah, its looks amazing! But- the root of the problem is her not feeling right in her natural hair, putting relaxer on her real hair is like trying to patch up a broken leg with band-aids!

I've been reading through the comments, and I have yet to find a single black woman in them who approves of this show/his methods. The only people who are singing his praises are people who aren't in the demographic that this show was meant to help/be for. I think that is very telling of the quality of this show. That's cool if he didn't make a point to flex so hard about being "the dr," "changing their lives," and encouraging to embrace their true selves (in these cases, that would imply their natural hair). The actions didn't match the words, that's my biggest gripe. Had he said this was just baby steps or something, or that the clients set their personal boundaries and he was working inside of said boundaries, that'd be helpful. But the way he lied to and threw that lady's wig in the trash, I doubt he's big on catering to client boundaries; and if that was a stunt, it was a stupid one.

He’s not helping anyone, the first girl could’ve bought some curly weave if she wanted it and he blamed relaxers being the root of the second girl problem (physically and mentally) and he doubled down and gave her another one. Her hair was so frizzy and uneven that the only option would be a TWA. On the other hand, she is used to swinging locks. He gave her voluminous extensions with texture that reached for the stars instead of swinging below her shoulders. This will let her and others get accustomed to what her own hair will do when it grows out and is on display. DeAunna(?) the entrepreneur looked like every other hardworking baby mama with her wig. Yes she had enough natural hair to start a “no raw oil /butter journey” but that’s not her aesthetic. Her relaxed bob transformed her from hood rich to sophisticated businesswoman. Both women looked liked themselves. It would have been nice if the hairstylist dispensed education on how to maintain the health of their hair especially during Monique’s service.

Monique’s hair is extremely damaged. Dr. Boogie did nothing to address her hair issues. She needed WAY more than a shampoo, deep conditioning, and hot oil treatment. This was yet another temporary fix. She needs real hair care & this wasn’t it. Dionna’s natural hair wasn’t bad at all. Her edges were just gone and hopefully they can grow back with the proper hair care.

​@Jetblue Horizon Protective styles aren't always the solution. I've seen better tstylist who don't have to fo all that Xtra weave and still grow hair. I had stylist throw that mess of weave on my hair yet didn't cut and trim and let my hair breathe. It's worse now. Going to a true hair doctor who works wonders with people's own hair.

Relaxing hair isn’t a bad thing if it’s done correctly. They probably gave them tips on how to maintain their hair after the show or whatever. We only see what made the show. But I’m sure as hair stylists they told her what to do at home. That’s what stylists do whn you go to a salon.

As a Hairstylist I was initially disappointed about the second client. I really wanted her to style her natural hair. Then I had to realize that as a stylist it's up to the client to maintain the style if they choose to keep it. We don't know what happened behind the scenes. I immediately imagined that during the consultation she made it clear that she doesn't know how manage her natural hair. Straighter, manageable hair could be a precursor to her transitioning later and even making it a journey for her content. Relaxers dont come without risk, also they can be safely done in a professional setting. She probably made the best choice for herself. I loved the final look.

The bottom line is, if a woman doesn't feel comfortable or confident enough to wear her natural hair, the only way to straighten it is by heat or chemicals. A lot of women keep there hair braided down and hidden under a straight wig. Is that really being natural. What's the purpose of having natural hair if you're keeping it hidden under a wig? I have natural hair and I like to wear it straight. I use heat (pressing comb and flat irons). My hair is thinning because there is only so much my hair can take. I've now resulted to wearing one row of a clip on hair piece just to get more volume. So far it's working.. But for how long??

black girl here, the second "transformation" was so tough to watch it reminded me of my own hair struggles with relaxers and cornrows (both at the same time unfortunately). relaxing the hair (which is already damaging) then doing tight braids on that damaged hair, then adding more hair to that damaged hair...literally how is that going to help her natural hair 😭 sure, these styles look good, but they're not transforming the hair and guiding clients toward hair health. they didn't even address the main issues in this, let alone make choices that would regenerate the broken hair/damaged edges. ik different styles and techniques affect hair differently per person, but i was at least hoping these beautiful women would get healthy trims and sustainable hairstyles for growth, but no they just put a bandaid on the real problems. any way, i'm at least glad that these women felt better, but disappointed that this hair professional didn't actually do much to treat their hair issues.

Babes if your edges are thinning please please stop putting chemical products and glue in it. Let it breathe for awhile. Do oil treatments for hair and keep it away from heat and harsh chemicals... if your skin is irritated like that please allow it to recover Your hair is beautiful. Let it be itself. Edit: and please for every treatment you do to get it back in shape, do an alergy test on a patch of hand. You never know when you have an allergy to an ingredient. I wish I could give you a miracle receipe but your hair is unique and you have to find what works for you. Try some natural ingredients like rosemary, stingnettle, aloe vera, argan oil, green tea, shea butter etc They might help but again.. your hair is unique. And while it grows back.. don't be ashamed of it please. It's beautiful.

I am Mediterranean woman, growing up my hair were curly and I always felt uncomfortable, all my friends had long full straight hair, especially when we used to go to the beach after getting in the water my hair were so nappy 😢 I felt so uncomfortable and I started to wear Extention and I also started to straight my hair way to often 3/4 times a day 😢 I am not black but I can imagine the pain that this women has to feel because the society

I just started really taking care of my 4c hair. For years I pulled it, I wore wigs over it, I even buzzed it off too start over and then continued pulling it. I think people misunderstand this show, I think it’s more focused on how black women can embrace more protective styles that look more like our hair, and also we all know that most of them on the show needs the big chop and that’s it, and some refuse that. So idk maybe it’s also about the ones that needs baby steps too🤷🏾‍♀️ I mean we’ve all been there done that, a lot of us are also still there. This show is not for us who loves our hair have been through the big chop and are now natural and taking care of our hair, this is more for the ones who aren’t all the way there yet and needs a quick fix but instead of the wigs and the extensions that are more 1-3 type of hair. He tries to make it as close to there hair type, whether that be curled, natural, silk press or blowouts. Because some can’t imagine themselves natural, some really need to see it on themselves with their own eyes to spark a change. And that’s more to our hair than just one look, like it can do so much more, or he wants them to get rid of the constantly 1-3 type hair styles and stop dem from doing more damage to the hair🙆🏾‍♀️

I’m white too and I started to learn a little bit about black women’s hair & hairstyles out of curiosity and wow they really have it hard. it takes hours upon hours, a lot of knowledge, money and more.. I’ve also heard that it’s not that uncommon for black girls in ie school or work to be forced to "do something about their hair" to make it look more caucasian, which is so fucked up. like why am I allowed to wear my natural hair without doing much to it but they aren’t? especially when it’s so hard and time-consuming for black girls to do that to their hair? that’s not fair at all. they shouldn’t have to change their whole hairstyle just because some old white ass man doesn’t like it. anyways, I deeply respect black women for how hard they work to maintain their hair. it’s so sad that some black women are ashamed of their hair because society told them to, I hope that one day those women can embrace their gorgeous hair and their amazing hairstyles. @@deadbunnys Thank you for this, Lisa. I am a Black woman with the tightest curl pattern (4C) and had been straightening my hair since my mom hot combed it at 13 or 14 (I'm now in my 50s). Then relaxers until only about 6 years ago. I'm natural now and learned how to take care of it and it's the healthiest and most beautiful my hair has ever been in my entire life...and it suits my face better (who knew your own natural hair might be best for your own face???! LOL). Now I can't believe I used to relax it all this time. Relaxer literally has sodium hydroxide in it (the main ingredient in drain cleaner!) and it has recently been noted that this ingredient causes cancer. I'm sooooo glad I went natural. It's the healthiest and prettiest it's ever been.

I’m a white woman with wavy hair and I only started caring for my hair texture properly a few years ago. Before that, it was a nightmare and would be frizzy and uncontrollable. This whole reason is why I’m sad that this show just more or less smacked a wig on it and called it a day.

😮😢I'm in tears. Due to medication, multiple surgeries, and chronic illness, I hide from myself and others. I have 4c very coarse and thick hair that sheds like a dead Christmas tree, I also have a dry scalp.... And a kitchen that needs remodeling😊 I have to joke to limit my tears. Just washing my hair is a painful chore, and to have my friends and family shaming me is extremely hurtful 💔 Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to afford the going rates for upkeep, so I wear wigs. But watching what he did helped them to take small steps of acceptance within, to begin their journey to love their own hair...be it natural or relaxed. I pray for an opportunity like that 🙏🏽 💯 Let's stop shaming each other over hair choices. Don't we have enough to deal with as Black Queens as it is? I always tell myself there's a difference between a stylist and a hairdresser.. I'm convince that stylists main focus is to do just that, style; and some do that very well, regardless of the hair issues the client have, i'e ignore the issues and just style n give the client what they want. Then there's the hairdresser who actually not only styles but cares and treats the hair and would avoid doing a particular style if it is damaging to the client's hair and give the best advice to the client so they can help care for their hair themselves in between salon visits..

These women need therapy. A hair stylist can't unpack the issues that they face with not accepting themselves and having self hatred. I want to see some truth behind the promises. Hes making it seem like all the braiding is for the protection of her hair when all it is doing is pulling it just like her headbands were. Why couldn't he just clean, condition, deep oil treat, and then teach her how to love and care for her natural hair? Why include more wigs or extensions? Especially if she's retired? Why do this? She's still stuck in a hair damaging cycle. Let's see some pictures of women who's hair is actually growing since he seems to have so much experience (Dr?) and so much knowledge on how to treat natural hair? Maybe because he's full of it?
