Kelly Slater is an absolute legend in sport. I have followed since when I started high school in the early 90s and am still amazed today about him love how he says he would surf professionally till he is 70 that is what a GOAT actually means

His words are pure wisdom that arises from hiS experience among the years ... So calm and happy with what he has given to the sport and taken back from it in return... Although i am a HUGE fan of Andy Irons and what he managed to accomplish despite the mental warfare that he was going through Kelly is a true Legend of the sport.. . Probably the Michael Jordan of surfing... He changed the level of the sport and made it known to the public...

He deserves to compete the Olympics in Tokyo 2020 and if he wins, we will crowning his brilliant career and finishing with Olympic gold medal.

Slater's legacy is not only having the most championship titles of any surfer but actually transforming the sport and level of surfing. Now he is transforming what is possible for a middle age person to do athletically.

Slater and Florence actually are neighbors in Hawaii. If it comes down to a battle between the two, it will be an epic setup for who gets to qualify for the team. Combine that with Slaters 30 year anniversary of turning pro, and you have a story that even Hollywood couldn't write. It's going to be epic either way!

So the Baywatch thing...whatever. I was one of very few surfers in the North East of Scotland back in the day. No interwebs. Wave Length magazine was too epensive to buy. Some folks were at our house and their kids that read teensie mags said, "There's some surfer guy on Bay Watch tonight. We don't know who he is but he's cute tee hee hee." Years later I met Slater at the Pipe Masters and he was a total gentleman and he won that event and it was pissing it down with rain and he stayed till the end to take pics and sign stuff. If him doing BW got surfing out there more then fair enough.
