In this video , I want to talk to the NON Traditional student in Medicine that is going into the field at a later age. This can be a person trying to become a doctor or nurse or any other specialty in medicine. I want to tell you my story about being a nontraditional medical student who had her first child while in medical school. I can give advice that you should follow and you will succeed.
My name is Dr. Karen Francois and I am a 5th year Attending physician based out of NY. These stories will chronicle my life with Anesthesia, as an Anesthesiologist and home life with my husband and 3 children. Through these glimpses into my life I hope to inspire and motivate young women or men into seriously considering Anesthesia as a career choice.
I am a Doctor and I as born and raised in the projects of the Bronx NY and I made it to become of highly respected physician , if I can do it then any one else in my situation can do the same.
Please make sure to follow me on instagram @ 3anesthesiaandme

Hey Antonio! I just subscribed to your page. I’m 47, and applying to medical school for the 2024 cycle. I hope I’m in your position soon! To 3 Anesthesia, thanks for pointing out how a non-traditional applicant can multi-task and balance multiple responsibilities. I feel like I “got this” because of the both of you! God bless. 😇🙏🏾❤️

I’ve taken the MCAT twice. Admittedly, I didn’t do as well the first time, but I stuck with it. I retook it and got a much better result ( average score for my cohort of testers). I used exam Krackers to help prepare for it, if this helps.

My mental health/undiagnosed adhd messed up last 10 years of my life. Will be going to med school next year at 27. From severe depression, years of suicidal thoughts to medical school - it was a crazy journey. I keep thinking about what if people make fun of me, but then I can't let this dream go and then be in my 70s and regret over it.

I honestly think it gives me an edge. I have better work ethic, more patience, and more understanding of why I need to do this. I am hesitant b/c my family members think it's a horrible idea, but my girlfriend thinks I should. However, I did take the first step and changed my profession to administrative work. Still, I am constantly being reminded by family members that I will regret wanting to go back to school for medical. ( Due to the possible education debt and being 26 ) I have done months of research, and I know this is my pathway. As you stated in your video, this change will give me fulfillment and balance in my career. Thank you so much for sharing 💕💙💛❤

I miss being the provider and would love to do procedures. I'm looking into doing my pre-reqs for medical school. I'm 31 but I don't have any kids, pets, or partner. I started community college back in fall of 2015 - straight from HS. I didn’t do great, I knew I wasn’t in the right mindset but I was pressured into going straight there by a parent. So for that fall and spring semester I failed classes and had low grades. I didn’t want to keep doing that to myself so I “dropped out” and decided to go for Medical assisting since that was happening every where. I started a program for that around age 20 and graduated and have worked as one for 3 years. I’m 24 now and started community college back up since last year. I had to start all over basically. I have one year left there before transferring to a 4 year. Sometimes I get discouraged by the age and the path I’m going in and I’m not sure if this is a typical pathway some take to achieve medicine. I’ve heard of bacc (?) programs but I don’t think that would apply to me. I really needed this video, thank you.

I am 25, I think I am more productive now, I value knowledge, I know what I want from my life, and I have the money needed for my studies. In fact, I have been saving up for several years. I don't think it's too late. And I am still surprised that it may be too late. Why? Is there a reason some people think it's too late? I mean, it's understandable when they start at 60. But what's the difference between 21 and 25? 30? People are still young..
@flyingdutchman9053
@flyingdutchman9053 2 жыл бұрын
The difference is "end-game" salary. You dont miss out on the early years but the later ones with high experience and high positions(+pay). So yeah in that sense you can be too late. However 25 is still fine imo. I just finished this year and we had plenty people in their late 20s/early 30s.
