I'm a retired airline pilot who started his professional life in business then switched to flying in late 30s! My brother was a practicing surgeon and after I was in the airlines for about 6 months he called me and told me he was becoming a pilot as well. He's now a Captain w Delta. Our father was an Air Force pilot, he was our inspiration for changing. We were both more happy as this woman talks about. One needs to be happy in life, it's too short not to be!

I'm not an airline pilot, I'm in the work force, but I fell in love with aviation and flying since my early years in high school, and recorded plenty of documentaries on VHS, and read books, and played Flight Simulator 98 for like 5 years and to this day, I still enjoy being an aviation enthusiast. It's a real great pleasure of joy and bliss, the skies and Heavens above are beautiful and makes me feel good and at east with the Grace of Allah (One God).

My family only wanted me to become a doctor,and my mind has been set for it since child..i love science especially biology and i scored quite good results in science until now. But i also fell in love with flying since a child too, at 15 i'm an aviation enthusiasts so i do a lot of research about aviation and played FSX until now at 19, my second ambition is to be a pilot but i know that i will got no permission by my family especially my mom as she stated that my family is known for studying medicine since my great grandparents. Now i'm studying Pure Science in Matriculation and hopefully will get the chance to study MBBS. I will always love pilot works and maybe just dreaming for it. Greetings from Malaysia 😬

My dad's friend's son also studied to become a doctor. Got his Masters, but changed his interest and became a pilot as soon as he graduated from Med school. He got the shit beaten out of him by his dad. LOL.

Thank you. You R awesome! When I was younger I always thought you had to b an air force -milatary based pilot and you had to fight in wars as a pilot b4 you could become a commercial pilot. Times have changed and I was & am so wrong! Thanks for the inspiration!

I'm currently at the University of California, Irvine and pursuing a career in medicine to become a doctor, but I truly believe I want to be a pilot. Because of the amount of time I have invested in my current studies, I feel like I am in a position that is too late to alter. What advises could currently or future pilots give me? Thank you.

It is very simple... If you want to become a pilot than do it! I became a Aircraft System Engineer before I decided to become a pilot. It is never too late. And if you wish to finish your degree in medicine first than do it. It is always good to have something else you can do in case a pilot career does not work out for any kind of reason.

The airline industry is about to suffer a major pilot loss and your timing couldn't be better. It's never too late in the aviation industry and if you really have a desire to fly you should follow that dream. I would recommend going to a local flight school and taking a discovery flight to see how you like it. If you do, you'll need a lot of money to invest in flight school training, but it's still cheaper than paying for a years tuition at UCI.
