When Rosalio Reta was 13, the leader of Mexico's most violent drug cartel recruited him to be an assassin. Miguel Treviño, who was just captured by the Mexican marines, used American teenagers to carry out killings on both sides of the border.
Reta is now serving time in a Texas prison for one of the 30 killings he claims to have committed. He spoke to The Center for Investigative Reporting prior to Treviño's arrest about the years he spent as a hit man for the leader of the Zetas. The interview is airing now for the first time.
Reta says he feels remorse and shame for the life he led as a killer. "It gets to a point where I can't even stand myself," Reta tells CIR. "It's eating me inside little by little, and there's nothing I can do or say to justify my actions."

His partner (who was also a child soldier for the cartel) said this guy was a sadist who enjoyed killing. Would even go out of his way to run over dogs on the street. Only a few from the cartel training camps are choosen to be hit men. The rest who can't kill are made to be lookouts or scouts. They actually do get a choice to be killers or not at the camps.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I'm interested in Reta's testimony, particularly because I assume that while he may be trying to inform the public accurately, he may also be hoping to make the kind of impression that may help him apply for parole later...I think he's up for it in 30 years? I was wondering what type of documentary you'll be producing in the next few months? I would love to see just the raw footage of the entire interview about Miguel Trevino. Might that be available sometime?

Thanks, Adam! We don't have the entire raw interview with Reta available online at the moment, though we just produced a longer piece about Trevino's teenage assassins. You can find it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJaYZHuYYteVbJI

Reta also talks about seeing 60, 70 and 100 people massacred at the same time. Similarly, another defendant in U.S. court spoke of seeing some 300 people massacred at the same time, which included women and children. And, on either Narco Blog or Borderland Beat, I saw a report of an actual battle that had taken place between CDG and the military, and there were 100s of dead bodies. Of course none of this makes the mainstream news. If a massacre of 100 people took place anywhere else in the world, it would be the headlines for several days, but it is just BAU in the land of wolves. The fratricide that is taking place in Mexico today is astonishing in scope and brutality. I'm no Trump fan, but some things he has right, and the wall is one of them. If Mexico collapsed, which is a likely possibility in the next 50 years, even the wall would be insufficient for the exodus. We would need 250,000 soldiers on the 2000 mile border in a hurry.

Funny thing about these cartel guys or gang members in general. Is that when they are in there little groups. They play the movie as if they were the biggest bad ass you'll ever meet. But catch one of these guys alone, some of the biggest cawords you'll also ever meet. And once they get locked up for murder or drugs. They become the biggest Snitch you'll ever know...

So be sure about that life you choose. Those decisions that you make and those people you turn your back on. Nobody gets out. Nobody. Jail or the grave. You take on that fast life, just know that you've decided to throw anything good in your life away. That ain't making a living or you just trying to support your loved ones. That's just you, alone. Think hard, try to see into the future without you making this terrible choice. I was a short timer. Served a total of 8yrs, 10 mos. Got out. Never looked back nor went back.

A man sometimes has to do things that's part of his job, killing is one of them. We've seen Mafia,Triads who have killed for honour, business but never will you see people like in the Mexican cartels. These animals don't kill because it's business, with these dogs it's not even personal, it's just for fun! These animals are psychos! They're mentally ill who don't even care about the money, they do it because they're genuinely sick in the head. There's no honor in this! This is not what a gangster should be! Even gangsters have a code that they will not break. Women and kids. Going to people's homes. These MF go directly for families.

He is trying to appear remorseful. He wants you to think he didn't have a choice and killed for the Zetas out of fear. If you watch his expressions when he talks about Miguel forcing the brothers to kill each other and planning to kill the survivor, you can tell he loves that shit. He admires Miguel rather than fearing him. He's no victim. I'm not hating, though, just pointing it out. To each his own.

Though, i dont give him a forgiveness, i just think that there are some cirumstances that leads human beings to act in such a terrible way.
