For the Roger Keith Coleman case: they COULDN'T have done DNA testing, because he was convicted in 1981, and DNA testing wasn't used in the States until 6 years later. I suppose they could have retried his case before he was executed in '92, but that would be a lengthy process I'm sure he knew he'd lose since he was guilty, if the courts even LET them file for all of that.

Obviously, at that time, were the case such that all that had to be done to prove the guilt or innocence of an individual whose life hangs in the balance while on death row were to simply take advantage of DNA science then they most certainly would’ve done so. Come on, man! You really think people has just forgotten about DNA testing?!?! “Oh yeah! Damn!! I wish we’d thought of that!” Even when it became available, it wasn’t like it is now. It took a VERY long time to see the results and was extremely limited in techniques available in attaining the results themselves as the science was in it’s infancy.
