C'mon, JC. Some of us are still trying to get to 225 Carry - let's not call that an embarrassing drive. :-(
@jchowngolf
@jchowngolf Ай бұрын
Nothing to be embarrassed by a 225 drive. I was in my playing career when I was carrying it 225, which was a good 40-50 yards carry behind most through the air (not to mention the 300+ guys), which was indeed embarrassing for me compared to the other pros. All about the context 👍🏼

Glad I stumbled across this video. Thought I'd try it out on the course yesterday and hit my longest drive ever, 283y down the middle. A few others not as far but keeping it in play for a change. Definitely helps stop the over the top movement which caused my inconsistencies. Hopefully it's the same then next time I'm playing 😂 Thanks for the advice

Was actually able to try this and am really loving it. I’m so much a feel player. So the technical type drills and explanations don’t always work well from me. Your drill, OTOH is very feel based and is super easy to pick up. I played yesterday for the first time since trying it. Even worked it into my pre-shot routine. Couple short backswing and turn swings. Then just step in and send it. Worked so well! More consistent contact. But the biggest thing was how effortless it feels. All while gaining distance. For instance, my 8i typically carries 165(ish). After these drills, I’ve picked up a good 10 yards. Hit a great drive on a par 5. Had 178 to the pin. Normally would pull 7i. But it just felt like too much now. Pulled 8i instead and carried it a solid 10 feet past the flag. Yet again, it felt like I wasn’t even swinging hard/fast. Absolutely love this drill and will continue using it in my pre-shot routine.

I do this already and still carry 208 yards max. I also hit 91% of fairways on a fairly tight course. When I play with pros or elite amateurs I'm always shocked at both how far they hit it and how far off line they are on average.
@GRIFF22
@GRIFF22 Ай бұрын
I've gone to this over the last month and it's been transformative. I had a PT session and my trainer basically said my hip mobility was below average, and whilst I'm lucky to be flexible to make a big backswing, my right hip goes so deep, I can't get back to be ball. A shorter swing has changed that. This is actually Jon Rahms favourite drill. One massive benefit is that because the backswing stays short, you can't really get over the top and so your swing is on plane way better.

I’m a pure arm swinger and never knew it and I consistently hit it 290+. I played with some guys on vacation and they were telling me if I ever learned how to use my legs and core that I could add 50 yards easily. I’m trying to figure it out but it’s actually hurting my game trying to use my legs and core.

it's hard to start the downswing at the top before completing at the top of your backswing. But the snap-whipping action it creates. Gives so much more club speed it is amazing the carry you will get.

When I went to one of those tech places a few years ago the Pro suggested I shorten that swing. He gave me Tony Finau as my model. This swing is a lot like that, or really just a lot like that of Jon Rahm, who despite his physical limitations, is able to generate amazing lower-body power ...

Will have to try this out! I feel like I’m in a similar place. In that I don’t use my body, rotation, ground forces, etc. At least not nearly as much as I could be. Just haven’t found the swing thought that “clicks” for me. I’m not short (~265 yds carry with driver). But I just feel like I’m leaving distance on the table. At the same time, I’m not looking to overhaul or transform my swing. I’m scratch. Just shot my all time low a couple weeks back 61 (-11). Still, who doesn’t want a little more distance?

@jchowngolf

Thanks bud! I’m a big fan of the Flightscope Mevo+. It has every data point that a top launch monitor contains. I’ve also got a discount code in the video description. The PRGR gives accurate numbers (spin can be off), but it’s very good for the price point. Just doesn’t have as much data as the Mevo+. Still a great option 👍🏼

Interesting to compare this with Paul Broadhurst, 58, who swings even shorter than you demonstrate but still gets over 100mph ch speed. I am 74, disabled with polio, legs gone, back gone so very little speed. However, my best speed (about 85 mph) comes with a very short bs, restricting the shoulders, then using a small shoulder movement to accelerate. If I swing any further back, I lose power and tend to fall over🙂. Can I suggest (I am a retired PGA pro) that your toe shots come from following through too flat with your left shoulder so, as you come to impact, the left shoulder is pulling the club head away from the ball = toe strike. You don't hit the ball with the follow through so allow the hands to release and get a more balanced follow through. Look after your back and legs.
