Awesome. On point, simple and to the point. Looking forward to taking this to the practice range. Thanks!!!

Covered both of my iron issues. First time doing these drills I went from 120 yards with 8 iron to 140, hopefully I'll add more. Thanks for the great tips.

I only rarely sign in...but this simple idea seems to have worked miraculously on me.....THANK YOU! One caveat....I've only tried this off my mat in my garage set up and I can't measure the distances.....but I can tell from the sound on the mat and the marks on my club....it's smashing much better. l'm thinking of gluing a tee on my glove so I don't forge to use the idea in the field. I'll post an update if it really works on the course. Thanks again!

I know most people won’t agree with me but I have become a single digit handicap after I moved the ball up in my stance I mean forward of middle. Force me to shift my weight forward and hit the ball than ground

Why don't you just load the left side at address, maintaining weight forward during the backswing, downswing throughout impact? IMHO, shifting weight during the downswing just adds another moving variable that requires the timing and precision of a world-class athlete like a Scottie Sheffler for repeatable ball-striking, solid contact, and compression.

@@johntrudel6849 all I know is I have been playing golf for many years and could never get to a single digit handicap m. I moved the ball up and started making consistent solid contact now I am in single digits

this lesson applies to me 100% as for some reason i have become an arms swinger, flicking at the ball. i lost a lot of distance and the reason i am still playing of single figure is the timing that still allows me to hit it relatively straight and a decent short game but the flicking feels awful, zero compression on the ball. this is what i shall focus on going forward, so many thanks! question though: does the same movement also work with the driver? i mean they all say you should hit up with the driver but this weight shift promotes hitting down on the ball?

I grew up as a junior golfer in the 70’s studying Jack Nicklaus’ book “Golf My Way” which teaches an absolutely rock solid dead still head throughout the swing. His teacher Jack Grout would actually grab him by the hair during practice sessions to make sure his head was still. Arnold Palmer’s head was even more motionless and this is what we all did. I’ve lost some distance as a senior golfer and I’m really struggling with this lateral shift. I’m getting about 10 yards more distance but I can’t consistently hit the center of the clubface with the added upper body and head motion. Trying to change my base swing after playing 52 years is a huge task.

Back then Jack didn’t have much hair to grab.

I remember a interview with Jack Grout, where he was asked about Jack not moving his head and Jack holding Nicklaus head, he laughed and said if he haf held Jack's head he would have been bald by the time he was 16, Grout said all good players move their head. 😢

If you can hit your 8 iron 170 yards, why do you have a 6 iron? and what do you hit when you only need 70 yards?

I don’t shift very well. What helps but isn’t probably recommended, is to setup with my weight on my right and push off onto my left. 😊

I don’t disagree with the message here, and fully endorse that strike is key; but swinging 10 mph faster will also add a significant amount of distance. The early swings were low-mid 70s, later swings were mid-80s plus. Still a good video and message, but KZbin lessons aren’t silver bullets.
@martymcflytriple00072 ай бұрын
I think the fundamentals were there, square club face, solid strike zone, shifting weight forward. all good for whatever speed you swing at

@@martymcflytriple0007 completely agree, and I’m not trying to be a troll or a jerk, just trying to draw attention to some other factors that will increase those distances.

Walked into the store the other day. There was a used set of "game improvement players' irons" which had a 7 iron with a loft of a 6 iron but with a big head and low CG, married to a Tour heavy graphite shaft similar to my steel one. I usually hit my own blade 7 iron to about 170, my target carry figure, and this new fangled tech club I smashed to 190 carry LMAO

Yeah, although the advice within may very well be helpful, I can't help wondering if titles informing people that they're doing it wrong if their 8 iron doesn't go 180yds will probably have loads of golfers doing all the wrong sorts of things.
