Hi Nelson, firstly I want to point out that I've never commented in any of your videos, but today, after countless hours of watching your videos (especially rating climbs which I find so useful), I gotta say a big thanks for everything. Truly, I appreciate the way you teach. You just speak so calmly and idk it gives me chills. I understand concepts so easily, just because of the way you teach them. You are an amazing teacher. I can listen to you for long hours, without getting ever bored. I admire your calmness, your little jokes, your time-awareness, how well you manage it and how you never get discouraged after a loss. Not only that, but I also love the way you convey your passion for chess, which comes through your words and your expressions. Thanks again for all your hard work. Keep inspiring us!

For the first time I actually saw what you missed LoL (Game 2 - Bishop traps Queen). The way you approach sacrifices is amazing! People at my level will have a tough time thinking when such a sacrifice is worth it, because no particular plan of action follows and you're down a key endgame piece. And I finally breached 1000 elo last week, mainly because of your videos. Thanks much!

It's actually in the very first lesson where we learn how to move our pieces. But as many other "not-so-great" players, we love to forget such simple basics. 😅 Like we also love to forget that we could just grab non-defended attackers - instead we just panic. We forget that a piece we moved was defending another piece, and get surprised when it gets taken. .. and so on and so forth. 😂

The skill difference in this rating climb is wild, remember back in the 600-900 range, players were playing surprisingly well right? And here we are in 1300 elo with players blundering checkmates left and right and losing games on move 10.
@arrowofkira5658
@arrowofkira5658 17 күн бұрын
I think what happens is at 1300 a lot of people rely on their pattern recognition and chess principles a little to much so they play too fast on autopilot. If you don't have those basics at 600-900 you actually try to think things through a lot more and you just give your best, now obviously they miss things because they're not there yet skillwise but you need to have the right mindset while playing. In all those games Nelson played the opponents basically played blitz in a rapid format, so they just got smoked lol 😅 😂

@@arrowofkira5658You're definitely on to something. I'm around that ELO and it really seems that games have a high chance of being decided in the opening/early middlegame by what looks to be natural moves, which fail due to simple tactics. If not, then the game looks more normal and gets decided by an advanced tactic/endgame strategy which at this ELO is way harder to play against.
@rayr4320
@rayr4320 17 күн бұрын
Everybody feels like a rockstar when they have tempo and control the board. 900 is the range where people can finally play basic chess. The only difference between a 950 and a 1250 player, is the latter tends to have a bit sharper attack with stable development during opening and mid game. They will flounder similarly when facing a master. It is interesting that with ~ each +60 points in rating you can experience a higher caliber player that you will find challenging.

@@NoNamer123456789 I find there are two distinct types. Those who make an effort to learn some theory and prcatice and can give me a tough game even though I know my openings well. Then there are those who just play every game as it comes and can quickly fall apart in the opening if confronted with anything out of their comfort zone. For example if someone plays the French against me my first three moves are e4 d4 Bd3. Followed by a long pause as I have not played the advance/ the exchange/ moved a knight.
@Romans8-9
@Romans8-9 16 күн бұрын
@@arrowofkira5658 Thats true. There are a lot of bad players at 1300-1400 rapid though, and they get that high because they play aggressively, go for a quick checkmate and overwhelm their opponents who don't know how to defend early queen attacks in a timely fashion, so they panic. Obviously that won't work against a 2000 plus.

All I'll say is that I'm usually happy to be pitted against someone much above my rating level, because it truly tests my skills. Win, lose or draw, I learn something about my opponent and about myself. The elo and 15-minute (rapid games) loss is worth the long-term benefits. I'll also join the chorus in thanking Nelson for all of his videos. It feels great to have 2000 elo-rated games explained to beginners in ways they understand in real time...without insults, like some other KZbinrs. I wish you and your family the best, and I hope you keep doing what you're doing.

I was thinking that moving it to D3, check, then if blocked by the pawn in G7, you could checkmate with queen H6. Anything I’m missing? He could block with his white bishop, but you’d win it. I’m thinking you had an abundance of options, but I can’t shake the feeling that this was a good move. Thx!

Time: 20mins 30 seconds. Quote: “There’s a name over here. Madladn G-Sling”. “This is an actual opening! Wow!!” Where are you getting that information from? Did you have an engine on telling you what the obscure opening was? Or maybe it was an editor or assistant? It certainly wasn’t coming from the chat, which was to the other side of where you were reading that from. At least when Naroditsky had the engine on during a game to check a previous move while he was waiting for the opponent to play, he said it out loud “I’m looking at the engine to check the move from before”, and then he apologised for doing so. So where did that delight come from Nelson? As you said, who has ever heard of the Madladn G-sling?

When C5 is played by black try having a goal to play C3 before D4 and you can decide to attack by taking an isolani structure or play defense by giving the isolani to your opponent. A single pawn can be used to destroy your opponent either way and there's also a weird, but funny sacrifice, where you can check with 6 different pieces demonstrating the power of an iosani or single pawn during the middle game. It fails in the demonstration of weaknesses, but it absolutely shreds when you learn what the pawn structures actually are and what pieces you need to keep or take for different pawn structures. I beat a 1400, 1800, and almost beat a 2400 player but I blundered the middle game, and my moves are so bad nobody accuses me of cheating. If there's a worst move sometimes, I think it's the best move that's why I'm a 300. lol

Problem is that it's not easy to tell apart a cheater from someone who saw some smart move. So I can fully understand them.

@@yonishachar1887 which just means he's not for you. He does have quality it's just not Nelson's quality and I'm ok with that because if everyone was like Nelson the game would be boring and personally where Nelson is playing randoms, Levy does subscriber games. Nelson should do subscriber games if he is doing these rating climbs so he doesn't get called on for "cheating" at least his subscriber would know what he's doing

Curious - at 52:32, what would have happened if you had simply moved QG6? They wouldn't have been able to take the queen because of the Bishop pin. Bg4 could have been blocked with the f pawn. Am I missing something?

Pretty sure you missed mate at 56:38 with Bd3+. He has to block with the queen or pawn. If he blocks with the pawn you have mate with Qxh6. If he blocks with the queen you take it, then he can either take with the rook which you can take and then he has to block with the pawn leading to make on f7, or he blocks with the pawn leading to Qxh6 mate again.
