I'm unfortunately going to have to mute the clip of Nicole dancing at 13:28 cuz of copyright issues :( Also wanted to thank Sunny for sharing his experiences with me. I understand it must've been hard to open up about such a difficult situation, especially after knowing I disagreed with his actions, but I appreciate his honesty.

@@rkcvje Yes, calling themselves a K-pop group is honestly childish in my opinion, because they probably won't get as skilled as they need to be to be qualified as a K-pop group. None of them except for Coco knows Korean fluently, their dancing is okay, but still not very good, their vocals aren't very good either. But although they are like this, they still get way too much hate. People spread false rumors about them, send them death threats and so on. That's even more childish. Yeah, the girls made a mistake, but that doesn't give anyone the right to hate on them as much as they do. Giving constructive and respectful critisism is one thing, but straight forward hating is wrong.

@@cornelia9309 They can "do what they love" as a Pop group, which is what they're trying to be (Kpop is not the only form of pop with dance routines). That's not the problem, the problem is that Kpop is a subculture within Pop with their specific culture point being their trainee system. Kaachi is not a Kpop group because one, they're not based in Korea, and two, they aren't TRAINED as idols. THAT is the problem, not them doing what they love. Lana is doing what she loves PROPERLY by learning Korean, learning the culture, and training like every other foreign Kpop idol.

I think the company is to blame, not the girls, the company just wanted to spend the least amount of money and time they possibly could so they could scavenge some of that Kpop money, everything screams cheap knockoff. As far as the girls go, I think they have decent voices, probably would improve a lot with practice, dancing seemed okay, same problem lack of training together as a cohesive group. It wouldn't surprise me if their own company made a lot of the rumors themselves, you know, publicity is publicity, whether good or bad.

That's why people in other places call taylor swift an american artist making american pop (cause she writes to an american fanbase/audience), hispanic pop music to a hispanic audience, kpop to a korean audience. Just cause kpop is worldwide doesn't change that.

Update on Kaachi for those interested; They now have 3 members (Dani left when her contract expired), they’ve worked with Johnny and their mixing/production has improved dramatically! They’re working really hard and their dancing and singing (as well as Korean), has really improved. Their more recent songs such as ‘That One Thing’ are a mix of English, Korean and Spanish (and it sounds like Your Turn but much better). Overall, they’re working really hard, have improved dramatically, and are doing their best! They absolutely have no bad intentions, so support them if you are interested!

Personally, I don’t like them but that doesn’t mean they should receive literal death threats for it. My issue with them is that to me kpop is not a genre, it’s this industry that mistreats idols and overworks them to the point where they literally have to go into hospital from exhaustion/famine/injuries etc. Kaachi claiming that they are a kpop group when they didn’t have to experience anything like that just screams disrespect to me. I’m not saying that they should be mistreated and neglected by their company, but to claim you are on the same level as these idols that have been neglected for years in order to get to the position they are at now seems incredibly inappropriate. Not being fluent in Korean when you’re targeting a concept that is based on that language is very problematic to me, imagine how us English speakers would feel if some people from another country barely spoke any English and claimed to be on the same level as Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga etc.? We’d feel very conflicted and maybe somewhat offended that they’d clearly put no effort into it. Another issue I’d like to address is that the majority of the members are not Korean, while groups like BLACKPINK, Twice and EXO mainly consist of Koreans despite having some foreign members. Foreign members are often quite popular internationally, but a lot of kpop fans don’t acknowledge that these people receive a lot of bullying, death threats, racism and general harassment for not being Korean by Korean fans themselves. They also tend to be more mistreated by their companies than the Korean members. (Think of the foreign NCT members, they are neglected severely by SM). Although I agree with most of Ploopy’s opinions in this video, I have to say I was very angered by her comment about other foreign artists “not being harassed” despite not being Korean. (I’m not going to harass her on that comment, I just strongly disagree). Back to my main point, the majority of Kaachi are indeed foreign and clearly lack Korean cultural knowledge as well as the language. The last point that I’d like to make is that the “company” that trained these girls is not legitimate. If these girls debuted under a proper Korean label then maybe I could overlook some issues, but the entire group, members, company, staff, the whole “label” in general screams unprofessional and unofficial to me. If anyone made it this far into my comment thank you so so much for taking the time to listen to my rant lol, I have more points I could make but I’ll shut up now since I’ve been writing this comment for a good 5 minutes and it’s probably pretty lengthy so no one will be interested in reading 🤣

while i agree with your last point on learning the language and everything, i dont feel like kpop should be gatekept for them having to struggle harder. If an actual kpop group debuts and they didnt struggle too much, and maybe seem less prepared because of that, i wouldnt mind because the mistreatment is such an issue that i feel no one shouldve went through. The hate that a lot of groups get is so uncalled for, and i dont think that if you didnt work as hard that the hate is warrented. (also this is personal oppinion but, i wouldnt be too offended if someone who didnt speak fluent english compared them to one of the western singers, espeicially because of lot of kpop groups/companys claim their going for a Billie Eilish or Ariana Grande vibe) Also this isnt even on the subject, but its funny to me how stans are literarily following eminems description of a one where they idolize someone to a disgusting extinct even going out of there way to hurt themselves and others, and then are able to switch and start hating them. Crazy.

@minseoksthighs
@minseoksthighs 3 жыл бұрын
I never said that people have to suffer in order to be KPop, I’m saying that these girls are not on the same wavelength as all of the other idols that work their asses off to get to where they are. Claiming to be a kpop group when trainees spend years to practice and prepare for their dreams and sometimes don’t even pass, only to be overshadowed by some girls from UK that are hopping on the “trend”. I’m suggesting that it’s disrespectful to the idols that have suffered, not that they should have to of course! It’s disrespectful because trainees have to work really hard to practice Korean, train in dancing/singing for years, lose a tonne of weight etc. in order to be considered an “idol” in Korea. However, these 4 girls come along and are barely serious about their careers. Their Korean is terrible, their dancing and singing is not on par with any proper idols, and Kaachi just generally feels like some kind of parody. The girls seem sweet, but I don’t agree with them calling themselves Kpop, when they are nothing like the idols in Korea. Of course, it’s fine to be different, but I am talking in terms of talent and training. It would be lovely if idols didn’t have to suffer, but that is just how the kpop industry is, Kaachi would know nothing of these idols’ efforts, and it’s practically mocking them. Sorry for the misunderstanding btw ^^

The reason why non-korean idols (japanese, chinese, taiwanese, etc) are able to debut in korean groups without an issue is that they go to Korea to be a trainee and are produced by a korean entertainment group in korea with majority of the members being korean. K-pop is k-pop because it originates from Korea and all the other artists are asian (or at least half) as well. While it mixes in other genres of music there is a specific sound because its Korean. If its not from Korea it'd literally just be pop. KAACHI is problematic for multiple reasons because they steal from other artists and it's honestly insulting towards idols who put in sooooo much intensive work to debut just to see another group out there that thinks they can become a kpop group by dressing "kpop" and adding in a few korean words here and there. However, I agree its just plain wrong to bully these young teenage girls and people should stop sending them death threats

I can just imagine if a new boygroup came out and their main dancer said "I'm like the Kai from EXO of XX" or "I'm like the Jimin from BTS of XX" they would get a lot of hate because even if what they mean to say is 'I'm the main dancer of the group' it comes off as if they're name dropping for clout, even if they don't mean it that way. They were gonna get hate anyway, they should have made their image super clean so people had nothing/less to hate. Even kpop groups do this before debut. The reality is that they're people and no one can be perfect, but kpop fans want the illusion of perfection and they will roast you if you are anything but.

I dislike the idea with Kaachi but what made me furious is the fact that that video where Sunny called Jennie lazy was ignored 11 months ago but now kpop fans brought it up in order to hate on Kaachi. Are you really guys taking advantage of that video just to hate on Kaachi? It disgusts me that people brought it up just to hate on Kaachi and not protect Jennie. Those people who hate on Kaachi for that video are also those who would ignore that video 11 months ago.

I find it irritating that Kpop fans who don't look East Asian (so Black, White, Arabs, Indians...) are ALWAYS immediately accused of being Koreaboos, while Koreans, Japanese, Thai, Taiwanese, or Chinese (no matter if they live in the States, Europe, or Asia) are okay? I remember UHSN and how the girls actually weren't cringey at all but some people in the comment sections would still call them Koreaboos. Funny enough, Erii (or Main) was never once called a Koreaboo, although she is literally pursuing a Kpop career because she is a Kpop fan, while the other girls are immediately rejected by these commenters for trying to do the same thing (come to Korea, live there, debut as a choreographer or singer or whatever). Guys.. don't you notice the discrimination here? You're no less evil than the Oscars having been excluding Asians for decades!! Please, guys. Stop. You expect black, Latino, or white peoples' countries to not be racist (I recently saw clips of Koreans in Mexico), so please do the same^^"
@chaeluxestarleaf1574
@chaeluxestarleaf1574 2 жыл бұрын
no, i dont see the discrimination here. you western people really want to take everything for yourselves 😭 the west already colonized the east and even now their culture you want to invade :/ it's literally called korean pop. the reason why those east asian countries fit well into it is because those countries also have idol cultures and they also have similarities within each other so it's easier to switch which country you wanted to be an idol in. erii was in produce 48 and is literally an idol herself. ofcourse she wasnt going to be called a koreaboo because she is literally already an idol. "You're no less evil than the Oscars having been excluding Asians for decades!!" i hope you realize how absolutely stupid and uneducated this comment is. what a privileged american thing to say. so you're saying it's okay to imply that asian/eastern films aren't able to compete with western ones due to sheer quality alone? movies are different in that its art; it's completely subjective worldwide whereas kpop is pop in korean culture. "You expect black, Latino, or white peoples' countries to not be racist (I recently saw clips of Koreans in Mexico)" so because eastern people would feel weird if a complete foreigner is trying to enter their music industry and culture means everyone can be racist to asian people 😭 make it make sense girl. your point is such a disgustingly privileged and uneducated take and you should really take it down.
@NoctLightCloud

@@chaeluxestarleaf1574 Phew this went completely over your head, and your reading comprehension is a mess par excellence. First of all, where the heck in my comment did I say that I am American, or even white, or priviledged, or a girl?! Also, your entire first paragraph has zero things to do with my point, so does the second. The implication is pulled out of your ass, don't put that into my mouth as I did not say that. I SEE something problematic in East Asians wanting to exclude every foreigner and isolate themselves. Was that so hard to get from my comment? Your third paragraph, how you deduced that from my comment is beyond me. Last paragraph is shameless and tops everything off. That's what I find entertaining about KZbin comments: You never know what you get, and when. Actually, I don't think you're East Asian. You're probably a troll trying to pretend to be East Asian, sitting in a basement, maybe not even a woman. But unline you, I will not assume who you are. Instead, I'm out.

I've myself seen so many people (who clearly are unaware of our people) calling them out for trying to "look" east asians and being koreaboos. Lmao wtf?

Okay first off: the problem is definitely scouting. How are you just going to just put someone in a “kpop group” who doesn’t speak korean, has no professional background in dance or singing, and hasn’t even train as a trainee. Like it baffles me. I understand that random scouting happens in the kpop scene but it’s first based on looks/busking talent. That it is when you are properly trained underneath the label etc. Like how are you just going to randomly dm someone, ask them to be in a group in a week advance of “debut?” Unless, they trained under the same label or had some sort of background in debuting etc, but still that makes no sense! It sounds unprofessional for a debut in the kpop world. (This isn’t directed towards ploopy or anything, I’m just saying that being picked to debut is hard thing and not everyone gets to debut.) I could go on but I have better actual kpop groups comebacks that are worth my time 🤧✌🏻

1. RE: Chinese, Japanese and Thai K-pop idols. The look of a group/soloist is very important in K-pop. That is part of the appeal. Despite what people in the Asian market say, Chinese, Japanese and Koreans look sufficiently similar to each other that they don't look out of place in a k-pop group. "CJK" is a term for a reason. With regard to Thai people, they range in look from quite East Asian-looking to rather Malay-looking. Notice that all of the Thai idols in the K-pop industry are more like the former. 2. RE: Is Kaachi k-pop? No. They are not. They are not for the simple reason that they are not really in the Korean music industry. I understand that there was a Korean debut, but they are based in the UK. Being a k-pop idol group means participation in stuff like variety shows, appearing on Music Bank/Inkigayo/Music Core/M Countdown, throwing out pitches for the KBO - stuff like that. I am not sure how they will do that sort of thing on the other side of Eurasia. Since they are not part of the Korean entertainment industry, they are not a k-pop group.

It's super ignorant of Kaachi to market themselves as K-pop... (long read lolol) You don't have to be Korean to be a K-pop idol, we see many professional idols from other Asian countries. We see SNSD Tiffany from the US, TWICE Sana from Japan, Got7 Jackson from China. Some idols are of mixed races like Somi who is white and Korean. But they are all Asian. Asians don't have the same opportunities in the West compared to white counterparts, so they go into Korea for more opportunities. (Idols from surrounding Asian countries go to Korea for bigger opportunities, but I'm not sure if they're necessarily disadvantaged.) Ex: Tiffany dreamed to be a US pop star, but had to go to Korea to get a foothold. And Jessi. Despite her hardships in Korea, she pursued music there for a reason. Many idols are like that. They want to pursue music, but where they are from may not give them the best circumstances. *((Zach Sang's podcast with Eric Nam gives some of Eric's perspective and details of this)) But when white people try to join the scene, it's not the same. Sure, the music industry is tough, but white people are more advantaged in the West compared to Asians. We see gatekeeping against Asians in the music industry in America (Korea too, but it's more based on the company/label, not race). Name an Asian-American singer you have grown up with... I can't think of any. K-pop had the most Asian representation for me. And people can be free to decide a genre. But K-pop is literally the broad term for Korea's music industry, it's not a really genre. To me, it is more of a geographic term, it happens to be location. So when white people enter K-pop and try to take away this Asian representation/opportunity when they can succeed elsewhere, it doesn't seem right. Korea is homogenous. Americans shouldn't be entitled to speak about not seeing non-Asians. This is Korean, it's not all created to cater to the West. (I don't mean to offend anyone. I'm voicing my opinion on an issue, as this upsets me as a Korean-American.)

I agree with you. People see Kpop as genre (Especially outside Korea) while the whole term of Kpop stands for Korean Pop Music, just like in the cases of Jpop, Western Pop, Nederpop (Dutch pop music). There is nothing wrong with singing in another language, neither is getting inspiration. But they would never qualify as Korean Pop unless the company would be Korean or be in Korea. This part is my own opinion: I find it unfair since we all know how hard trainees have it in the Kpop industry and how most never get to debut. Of course it's good for them they get treated way better and they should do their thing. I am not against it or would hate because why would I? But I find it hard to ever see them on the same level as Kpop bands. Even on the same stage, I just doesn't feel fair to me.
@DutchFemme
@DutchFemme 2 жыл бұрын
I do not agree in the fact that non-asians aren't allowed to work in the Kpop industry. If they get scouted and work just as hard to learn Korean, learn to dance and sing and all other things. They are just as valid as asan or half-asian idols. Look at Blackswan, they have a black member and she is working just as hard as the others, maybe even harder because they don't help her with the language and stuff.

Please take the time to read my thoughts on why people were angry at Miso comparing herself to Hwasa. People don't understand the reason why some were mad when Miso said she's like Hwasa from MAMAMOO. They don't know the reason period because they are not moomoos (MAMAMOO stans) and they don't know Hwasa's life story. I don't care if Hwasa is Miso's role model or that it was a relative comparison. I understand she wasn't saying she's literally Hwasa. It might not have been her intention but as a moomoo, seeing Miso having a darker complexion in a group with 3 white people, it seemed like she was referring to Hwasa's darker complexion compared to her groupmates. Hwasa has been bullied ever since she was a child for having tan skin, or a darker skin tone than most Koreans have. She was constantly rejected from entertainment companies and her dreams because she was too tan and didn't fit Korean beauty standards, not because she wasn't talented. Even after she finally found her current label, which accepted her purely based on talent, and debuted, she faced huge public backlash and people petitioning to kick her out of MAMAMOO just because she is tan and thicker than most idols. So to hear Miso casually comparing herself to Hwasa because she's the "darker" one in their group and to hear others saying that we're being angry for no reason breaks my heart because moomoos know how much Hwasa went through and still goes through. She wrote and composed many songs on her most recent solo album, Maria, just as a response to her haters. Again I know that not everyone knows her backstory and I don't expect everyone to know it. I ALSO KNOW IT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MISO'S INTENTIONS and she just might really like Hwasa. But please don't be so quick to dismiss our feelings. We're thankful if she does like Hwasa but this still hit something.

This is an good comment, I'd also like to add my two cents. It would be in poor taste for me to join a group and introduce myself as the Beyoncé of said group. Beyoncé has done the work to carve out her place and I haven't made even a fraction of the impact that she has. It's just poor form 🤦🏾‍♀️

As a moomoo, i get your point, but it didnt really feel like she was reffering to skin. It felt like she was more so aluding to her more confident, sexy vibe, just like how Hwasa would have. Since they all have their own personality its similar to saying "Im like the sporty spice of the group" and solely meaning personality wise, not in appearance or talent

FINALLY! Someone made an objective video about this whole KAACHI situation. I mean, the only thing I see with videos or posts that talk about this is hate and people laughing at this group. Of course, I don't consider KAACHI a kpop group for obvious reasons, and I can fully notice that they might not be very prepared to debut, but those girls definitely DO NOT deserve the amount of hate they are receiving. Some of those kpop fans that are laughing at KAACHI and making hate comments are the same ones that were talking about mental health when Sulli and Goo Hara commited suicide. Just imagine the desilusion of making real your dream of being something like an idol but then seeing all the hate that came with that...

It’s also sad how people are really so insecure, that they have to bash on a group of mostly innocent girls through the screen to somehow feel better about themselves. It truly is so sad.

I think the best thing to do is completely ignore them. Like, just don't watch their videos or other videos about Kaachi. The whole point is to get attention (and youtube views), so if you don't like them, you shouldn't let them have even a second of your attention. Nothing else would be worse, I'd think, and it also preserves your own integrity --leaving hate comments is just giving them more attention and helping them grow.
@vamplex

Just an opinion: People these days just roll with the crowd. If someone gets hated on, people will hate on them to because they don’t want to seem like an outcast. Kaachi posted a video where they reacted to Johnny and they took his criticism. People in the comments apologized to them and Kaachi even liked those comments. It’s a shame how y’all preach to not send death threats and don’t harass when that’s exactly what y’all did to them. Kaachi didn’t do anything wrong, y’all simply watched one video and made an assumption. Don’t let it happen again. To anyone. You don’t have to like them but you don’t have to disrespect them either. I agree (this comment is from Pringle on angelina's 2nd video abt Kaachi), but I think they shouldn't have debuted without more preparation. They probably didn't expect this kind of reaction, and also, apparently half of their "scandals" are fake. The talk about how they are appropriatizing kpop is a whole other convo.

That’s honestly why I like them so much. Anyways stan SB19 😊💗.

the fact that they were specifically looking for an asian fourth member as an afterthought. how does anyone not see this as cultural appropriation... The Asian entertainment industry and culture is vastly different from the Western one. KPop groups are known to exist within KPOP is because of the variety shows and training they often do not exist outside of Asia. Kinda sick and tired of Westerners trying to copy our successes, yet will still shit on us endlessly...

Personally, the production company is the one people need to send constructive criticism the most. No death threats or bullying anyone. If I understood this right, the group was founded by a South Korean woman and she had the responsibility of fully educating and assessing the group on Korean, Korean etiquette, and KPOP standards all together. There is a reason why trainees are in terrible slave contracts with companies. These companies see these trainees as "investments" and make sure they have the proper vocal, dancing, PR, and rapping lessons before they step onto stage. Making a KPOP group takes time and money aside from determined, talented and skilled trainees. Lisa, Bam Bam, Jackson Wang, and other foreign IDOLS demonstrate that learning Korean and learning Korea culture is important. Even racially, Lana shows that white individuals need to be fluent in Korean and train. The members of Kaachi were horriblily ill prepared by the company and do not blame the individual members for this gross oversight.
@MirueYT

Yeah i think Kaachi wasn't an investment. I don't even think they got paid. Most kpop idols train for months to years to be idols, during those times, the companies pay for expenses such as language lessons, vocal coaches, dance lessons, acting, modeling, interview skils, ect. (There are vids of past kpop idols explaining their trainee experiences all over KZbin) the only thing i feel like the company for Kaachi put money into was the sets, editing and camera directing. I believe they didn't even dance in a studio when practicing (because there is a HUGE difference between people who learn dances without looking at themselves execute the moves versus people who actually practice dance in a mirror.) The company is also shady and cheap and rushed these poor girls to debut in hopes to earn their money back (which i think they did with the amount of veiws on the music vids, even if they are from haters and critiques) but compared to actual kpop groups, it'd take longer to pay back the company, especially with mnet shows, promotions and stuff. I don't even know if Kaachi is being paid, lol. Poor girls.
I purposely auditioned for scam KPOP companies...so you don't have to
