For sure the 70s-90s was the Golden Age of music for most, but there are kids now discovering all the old stuff (thanks, in great part ,to KZbin) . Some will take what theyve learned & make it their own. Modern production techniques are garbage, but people are realizing this and Id like to hope that soon pitch correction, quantizing, looped drums, click tracks and all that other garbage will be a thing of the past. ..and to be fair, some of that stuff has its place, but its so misused & overused so often , that it takes any "life" right out of the songs.

The drumming on this song is electronically programmed, so it's definitely not Phil Collins. This is from his second solo album (The Principle Of Moments), and IIRC Phil Collins only played on the first one (Pictures At Eleven). Robbie Blunt's guitar is the MVP here for sure, and Paul Martinez is on point with the bass. That chord change before he sings "leading me on" is absolutely *gorgeous* isn't it?

This was guitarist Robby Blunt. I believe he stayed with Plant until around 1988. He always matched up with outstanding musicians. After Zeppelin, his standards were high, to say the least. He did have the habit of firing his bands every few years….at least until the 90’s when he reunited with Page. Always searching for new sounds and ideas. After 2000, not so much. He found his place and had stopped trying to catch the “golden ring”……again

It is one of a literal handful of songs that I can say instantly takes me to another place. Now, there are lots of other songs that kind of do that, but "Big Log" is one that I don't even have to think of when trying to name them. As soon as those first five guitar notes are cast into the air, I catch my breath in anticipation of the beautiful isolation this song seems to conjure. I was in love with this song long before I saw the video, and can honestly say that the video is, thematically, EXACTLY what I picture in my head when I listen to it. Some great songs from different phases of his long career: Slow Dancer from the early '80's, Takamba from around '05, and High and Lonesome from his latest album with Allison Kraus '21. He may have lost some of his upper range, but his emotion, passion and the purity of his voice are fully intact. Zep was just a warmup.
