Woohoo Elayna! I had to applaud with the folks on deck. I used to jump into icy alpine lakes on winter ski mountaineering trips. I remember it like an electric shock followed by a state of euphoria. "I'm on holiday. What a treat!" I think some folks forget that besides all the video and editing work y'all do, how much pressure and responsibility the workload of your normal everyday at sea is. Glad y'all had this time off.

For anyone interested, the ice being blue is a good way of judging its' age. The more blue, the longer it has been there, as the oxygen trapped within it gets bluer the longer it has been stuck there.

This is just so awesome! It reminded me of Alaska, where I took the plunge! It made my legs feel like they weren’t even there or they were paralyzed. That’s probably why they tied a rope around me too, but the feeling afterwards was incredible. To me , it was similar to running a 10k but better. I felt high or more alive the rest of the day & I thought about things I haven’t thought enough about in years! The whole family looks so young & rested, you probably already noticed when you were editing, it’s wild!❤

Ah... The old Mammalian Diving Reflex! I experienced that after tipping a two-man canoe while paddling around an icy lake. As the ice was increasing rapidly, the water was definitely 32 deg F. We were so cold we couldn't right the canoe, so after two minutes, we gave up and swam to shore before running the mile and a half back to the cabin. Fun Times! So glad you're making your own family memories!
