17:22 I can confirm the loot does not disappear if you lose the map. At least in my circumstance. I parked, swam to island with another player on it working a quest. Picked off seven or eight pieces of of his best loot and buried them. Received a notification that my ship sank and I lost my map. Ran to my spots in the loop was still there.

For the record, the “food reg” you’re experiencing is actually you switching to your weapon too early, before the food has actually eaten. Sprinting also cancels eating. It’s incredibly rare to get food regged nowadays if you let the food eating animation finish. 99.99% of the time it happens, you canceled it, regardless of copium levels.

You can put the map bundle on an island if you think your ship might sink. Then the bundle is only subject to server merges or the regular loot despawn timer.
