I ran into a pretty fun hourglass cheater who was so arrogant in every way. He had this obnoxious copy paste message along the lines of "you only sank because I'm a sigma and you're not, next time join the winning team" or something along those lines, constantly talked about how cheat developers are smarter than Rare, went on about how he could get the gold bones I was wearing in a single community weekend if he wanted to, blah blah blah. We managed to sink him, though, and he shut up so fast. He audibly went "what.....? No....not right now..." almost like he didn't mean to be heard, sounded so embarrassed and defeated, lol.

Im gkad I had a long break from SOT just to see the changes and state of the community. From what I'm learning. Rare not only turn a blind eye to most cheaters/ streaming behaviour. They actively discourage people to speak out. Affording blanket bans to those who oppose or stand up and no chance of recourse. Rare had a wonderful community at the start I'm sure they can right this ship if they tried as hard with all members not just those they pal up with.

They don't want to cheat *TO OBVIOUSLY* because they know : they get banned faster if they do. So most of the time, they use Cheats which are not so very powerful, but can tip the Favor to them in Battle whenever they use it. Fact is : these People don't just cheat their Opponents. They also cheat themselves. They know they are never winning by their own Skills. It is a bit sad to watch. 😅

Someone else probably already pointed this out, but you can see him unload your cannons in this video. Watch the cannon on the left from 12:05--12:20. You can hear the exact moment he steals it.

​@@HypnoToad1729my theory is when Dev's stop or don't permaban by IP address, it's because they themselves are also selling the alt accounts for guaranteed revenue, with a guaranteed time line to how long they can get away with cheating. I have pretty much proven this to be true with (what used to be my fave fps) hunt showdown. My evidence to the community even kept getting deleted.... I backed them into a corner so they banned me from interacting further. The story is much longer but it doesn't belong here and I'm sure you get the unfortunate point.

As much as I hate how clunky console games feel to play sometimes, I'll always be glad I don't run into cheaters. I wouldn't have had the patience you had to keep trying to play the session out, I would've just left. On a side note, I got my first little FoTD Athena's heist last night! Was just one, but I'm proud of it.

This is a console game.... its crossplay so you are in the game with PS, Xbox, and PC players. The idea that being on a console prevents you from getting cheaters is just not a thing anymore unfortunately.

I've run into a handful of cheaters. people legit used to try to gaslight me "cheaters can't teleport" showing them a clip of my ship being more then 40 feet ahead of this cheater sloop chasing me but somehow the same guy keeps dropping from the crow's nest or climbing the ladders at record times after I kill him. just to be told on mass "he was just tucking" by people even in the sot discord

My friend and I dealt with a cheater before. The whole time he was blaming Rare for the reason he was cheating. invisible, one shotting from wherever he was, and could insta drop our anchor. Cheaters and sot are saltier than the seas. Good work on handling the situation, my friend.

​@pohluhr I haven't seen it in awhile but there was a cheat that looked kinda like a trident explosion that would one tap people at full health. I don't know if it's still in the game tho. I have a video of my crewmates dying one by one and all you saw was like a green explosion, cheater was invisible and I don't even know if he was on the boat while doing it.

The easy-anticheat is kind of a pain. It will randomly kick me when I am not cheating and then allow people to do this without batting an eye.

With the invisible cheaters. They can’t go invis below deck. So if you play lower deck then you can actually kill them. But you can’t go kill them while they’re invisible.

I had this same type of cheater and even if you hide below deck they can snipe you through the grate, as the grate on a sloop exposes most angles below deck. You might be safe on a brig or gally.

Yeah I had that 3 days ago. I became friends with him. He shot out of his cannon and landed in the water like 100 feet from my boat then jumped out of the water and landed on my stairs going to the helm. When I asked how the heck you did that he said that you get specials powers when you reaches 100 in Servant of the flame. Well I'm 104 in HG and I don't have those powers. So I say cheater. Should I report him?

Last time I ever "cheated" it was Halo 2. We modded out xboxs and had some mad sessions, we never left social games though. Those Matchmaking Slayer and Clan Matches were so intense and fun the rank carried weight. One of my mates decided to game his rank. He got close to a Halo Ring but was banned. But on his ride to the top he said himself its not as cool as when he made it to 35 on his own. I get why people would cheat on SOT for the sheer grind of it. But seen way too many cheater clips of modders shitting on players. Rare does nothing and Bungie had a better grasp of it whilst online gaming was still in its infancy. Rare need to do better by this community.

I've been playing SOT since before you were regularly playing with HitboTC and I've never encountered a cheater until about a month ago (Xbox btw nowadays mostly console servers) but I have encountered multiple definite hackers on the (if you can believe it) Insider's version of the game the past few weeks. They have been sinking ships quick with auto kegs and force spamming people clean out of games to get ahold of the new upcoming game events that will be released on the 25th. (Rare has already told you what it is) beware of the hackers coming, will likely be bad for a bit.

I just returned to the game for the first time since launch and tried hourglass and spawned in and within 10 seconds a guy was on my ship and they has stupid accurate aim with the cannons but other than that im having a blast with the game.

I used to be in a guild that would hunt cheaters. We would take over boats from people leaving the server by joining their crew and overpower cheaters by outnumbering them. I remember one time just sending sloop after sloop with kegs at one galleon to the point they rage quit. Before the major anticheat update i just got annoyed with wanting to do something solo and when im about to log off watching a cheater fly above my head to kill me and steal all my loot. Then when i go to their last known location if i got close my boat would sink. Im actually the reason rare figured out how to combat against the disconnect hack. I stopped playing after that. Heard it got better, but after seeing this video i doubt i will return. If it wasnt for the hackers it would be a great game. It seems rare doesn't want to ban anyone they just want to fight the hacker programs which a cheater will always find a way to cheat.

I feel it, cheating in grindy games is a stress relief but if u aint hiding it ur chances of getting away with easy/free money are very slim. That threat was so meaningless tho. Ironic threat too. Bro knows the 'don't cheat or I ban you' rule and still obvious cheated. 💀Thankfully it has been a bit of a blast to grind SoT. The grind is not as bad as GTA Online for example.

EAC doesnt work, you need active admins on the game in order to catch cheaters. Rare knows this and they dont really care much enough therefore you must do all the work to get hackers removed.

There was this afternoon when duo hackers got angrier minute by minute. We crashed one FoT they seemed to be wanting.... Well.. How about we want it too. After about 3 sunken sloops for us and them, they did not bother anymore to hide their hacks. Neither did they want that Fot anymore, they just wanted us to F off from that fort. Well.. that was only the story here. Ofcourse we would not leave it for those hackers.... Turned out to be most fun 2 "hours wasted". They just flow kegs to our sloop trying to sink us in middle of ocean but could not do that even with hacks... Minute by minute they got angrier and started to use prox chat at the end... Most blatant and most "fun" report footage sent.

Not saying there aren’t cheaters, but did you ever consider the fact that they buffed the sloop speed and you don’t need to use sails forward when going into the wind to go full speed. Rare should make more players aware of this because I catch myself doing the pre-buff sail strategy from muscle memory.
