I work at Tesla Fremont factory and it sucks. 12 hr shift is no joke so I have also been taking a second lunch. You wouldn’t believe how much hate and poorly treated I was because of taking that second lunch. It’s very discouraged because they lose money every second you’re not on the line. It sucks because I love Tesla but they treat employees bad especially me because of my lunch. I denied me a third rest break because I take a second lunch saying my lunch counts as a rest break. It is very illegal what they are doing. Luckly because of me people now get their entitled breaks. Management really tries to take your breaks away so you can work more. Worst part is they are strict on sitting down they force you to stand 12 hr even if there are no cars. Avoid working here unless you want to destroy your body and be restless.

I work at a place that is similar except no one is unionizing. Lots of us do more than one job. I in particular run a whole woodshop area by myself. I mean I am used to it and I’m only 26. All I hear from the uppers and the boss is “oh you’re a young guy you can do it” but will go home tired everyday. We had one guy way before me by himself go crazy. What I do is pretty simple I pick up lumber that weighs a good 70lbs and I cut it down to length after I cut all the parts I then rip the order to width. All by myself. I gained a hernia. Bad back and even broken several toes and fractured my ribs there. By I’m a young guy I can take it :) it does make me sad because by OSHA rules there should be 3 others in my area. Other areas there it’s different and more sad. I’m not the only one working alone is an area. I haven’t another another person in my area for more than a year. I only make $11.50 which sucks because I feel I work the hardest. I’m the first part of the job and I supply the whole shop with work.

As the country unionizes again, organize a union. Together we stand, divided we fall. I once worked at a non-unionized company & they treat people like dirt (they still do). Now in my union job, if managers try to treat employees like dirt, our union steps in. Being unionized doesn't mean we don't have to work hard, but it means that if Osha says there should be 3 guys, management must resolve the issue or go to court and pay a fine for violating OSHA then put in 3 guys.

I work for frito lay at the Kirkwood NY location in the warehouse. We routinely get forced to work overtime up to the state limit of 60 hours. If corporations had thier way they would force us to work 7 days a week 16 hours a day. Sadly most workers are indeed scared to even mention the word union. They tried to unionize years ago but one brown noser told corporate and they had a huge meeting. Everyone who signed the union cards got scared and wanted the cards back. If workers really want to make a change then stage a strike. Again though a lot of people can't afford to take the time off to do so. Self interest knows no limit. Both poor and rich people are guilty of it. I personally am trying to find another job with a smaller company so I'm not unnoticeable like at a huge corporation like frito lay. Sure I will make less money but is money really worth being treated like a slave? I used to think so but not anymore.

I'm 23 I've been a part of the teamsters for about 3 years now and I hate it. The leaders are ancient white men who look like they've never lifted a Dean thing in their life. The only thing theyre good for is keeping people who don't want to work from being fired. This one guy showed up drunk 4 times before he was fired and he still filed a claim with the union, not sure how it turned out though. All I can say is my experience with this union has been extremely negative and I've been forced to pick up the slack of those that don't want to work because that's what you have to do if you want to move up. So if you just want to collect a paycheck with just enough money to live and also not do anything to earn it then unions are for you.

If what he says about the working conditions is true, it’s a sweatshop. I work 12 hr nights, 4 on 1 off. If he was a line worker, $20 is ok, not great but ok. What are the benefits? 6 days on 12’s is 72. 32 hours of overtime per week. That’s a pretty serious number of hours. The fatigue would be a safety factor….. I’ve seen both sides of the unions, and maybe they have their place. But there would be less need of unions in places that recognized the safety and well-being of their workers.

Unions suck the life out of companies and force them to keep the lazy, the unproductive and eliminate pay based on ability. In short unions are crippling. Tesla moves at the speed of thought. They reward those with abilities and fire those that are a detriment to the companies goals. In turn if you do a good job you will be rewarded. We now have laws protecting workers, unions are of a past that no longer exists. If you don't like working at Tesla or any place else there is nothing stopping you from leaving for better greener pastures. Go work for GM, they'll be out of business in 10 years. I'm in a union and I see its pros and cons. Pros are mostly for the lazy, the cons are for those who are truly gifted and see no reward for their efforts, getting the same pay as the slacker next to them. There is a reason Unions are dying out. Tesla employees love their jobs and are very happy with the higher pay package. What seems to not register with the pro union posters is that pay is simply not just your wage. I could get more pay at another job but I also get extremely good healthcare and a pension that thankfully is not run by our union who has a tendency of losing the pension funds of other locals. If I do a better job I get nothing for it, so I give just enough. I would take a lower wage with the ability to get a raise based on my abilities and stock in the company I work at over higher pay. If you don't have faith in the place you work then why are you working their. I don't think you'll find any Tesla workers who have a problem being wealthier from the shares of $TSLA they get in their compensation package. The Unions however are very sad they can't leach off Tesla and its employees.

Some employees act like the company owes them. If you don’t like your job then find a new job. For those go complain all the time if you think Tesla is bad try working in the Fields picking grapes. The federal government does NOT care about these abuses. In fact the government intentionally sets the fines for breaking these laws is so low that a company could break federal labor laws hundreds of times over and the fines would not even amount to $250k. These companies would rather pay the fines than obey the law because it is cheaper to pay the fines than to have a union. It has been this way since the 1980's

I work at Tesla. Its awesome. Gold plated insurance costs me very little and covers a lot. Every hourly employee just received a $10/hr increase in pay since the start of 2024 to keep up with the insane cost of living increases. Also stock options and bonuses. Admittedly I work in an office, so I do not know much about the assembly line, but Tesla will pay for you to enroll in or complete college and there is plenty of upward mobility opportunities. Is excellence demanded of everyone? Yes. Is everyone in Americas workforce up to that standard, we all know the answer is no. Imagine living in a country where healthcare is not a right, where you don't get a month of paid vacation and where paid maternity/paternity or sick leave isn't guaranteed for all workers. I wonder why not a single job in Denmark doesn't pay a living wage. A reaction to finding out workers are so cucked in the US i often hear is "well what do you do if you get sick". I'm not anti-union, my job is unionized itself, but I also love the fact that people have choices in this country. There are union jobs which give you a stable income and good benefits, there are also non-union jobs which pay less hourly, and give employees a bonus at the end of the year depending on the performance of the company or the department, but you can't have it both ways. You already knew it when you joined the company, you've made your choices and if you are unhappy with it afterwards, quit and find a union job. Like Ortiz said, he previously worked for Nummi which paid him substantially better, then why didn't he stick with Nummi but instead chose to go to Tesla? It was never explained in this video.

@Niccole A money is not why a company does not like unions. The reason they dont like unions is because it makes it very hard or very expensive to fire bad employees. Get enough bad employees and they drag the company down. I see way to many people come to work drunk, high, late, leave early, dont show up at all, move at a snails pace, ect maybe i just got lucky but im pretty sure people know what they will be getting paid during a interview. After that its up to you to negotiate raises. Nobody forces you to work for anyone. If you are unhappy with your rate of pay simply and "honestly" ask yourselfelf. "Am i being fairly compensated for my time? Or am I limited by my skillset/education?" Im sorry but standing there and putting on nuts and bolts all day is not a hard or difficult job and does not deserve top compensation. Its not shameful for anyone to wish to keep the money they have earned. Most people have no clue what it takes to keep a company going.

Regarding Tesla, the company offers a great work environment with a decent salary and benefit package including stock options. These stock options will be lost when higher wage demands are demanded in a Union work environment. I think it would be best that Tesla avoids New York with its powerful Unions and move the factory south to Florida or Texas. The factory business climate in New York is terrible.
