The technology and the fact they're the "first" mass produced electrical vehicle that doesn't look ugly is what makes them so expensive.

@@paradiso4562 Tesla is considered a Luxury brand. It has more to do with price tag than materials and/or technology in Tesla's case. A quick Google search will tell you it's a luxury brand. Just because you disagree doesn't mean it is not a luxury brand by definition.

@@DeeAy09 You don't know what luxury means then. You can Google a million different things and get different answers, that means absolutely nothing. Absolutely agree. I've seen both and the Bee has actually informative and entertaining conversation, the Time one just complains about him for having money and influence. Also, it's beyond stupid and a blatant lie to claim he pays "almost no taxes;" he's paid more in tax this one year than any other human being in recorded history. I mean you can argue about if you think he should be taxed more or less, but putting out easily verifiably false info to push political agenda is bullshit.

Elon Musk is playful, and Babylon Bee tapped into that. He's a serious man involved with endeavors with serious consequences, plus he concentrates so hard that his facial expressions are hard for mere mortals to read. I'm convinced Elon Musk is one of the most misunderstood people currently alive. One has to remember the guy has an IQ on par with Einstein: he just doesn't see the world the same way most regular people do. In my opinion, whilst he's certainly not perfect, he is one of, if not the prime person to support in this day and age. If you look at the sheer size of the accomplisments he and his companies have made so far, can't you just do anything but wonder what the future will hold, especially with the goals they are striving towards? People will always doubt if what he's doing is even possible, or insinuate this is all just for his own ego, but you got to remember that most people who bet against him in the past have been proven wrong. And yes, he may be the world richest man according to net worth, but honestly, i would be extremely suprised if it turn out he does any of what he does for personal gain. Glory, maybe, yes, but first of all for the progression of humankind. What kind of billionaire lives in a rental home and pours every bit of cash he makes of his stocks straight back into his companies? What kind of billionaire sits together with his (brilliant) engineers at the design table of the most advanced rocket yet, changing and itterating as he goes? One thing is for sure: Elon is not just a regular rich smart guy who got lucky. You may dissagree with him, find him immature, despise him because he holds so much wealth, even believe him to be evil, but you cannot deny he is changing the world for the better. Let's just all take a moment to appreciate that. And let's hope he's just getting started.

Elon deserves much more than this award. The undeniable truth is this: When Elon started on all of the prominent journeys he is known for (Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, Neuralink, The Boring Company, SolarCity, etc - which are more than most can ever do in one lifetime), they were ideas many people never ever thought would succeed. Musk didn't just start successful companies. He went after ideas that next to no one thought would work. He has broken ceiling after ceiling through sheer human enterprise and brilliance. Sure, government funding helps, but that is the case for most large companies with a large R&D focus. The man's ideas continue to change our future in outstanding ways. Not to mention he is so frequently featured in the media, which contributes significantly to what TIME considers in giving this award. Actually they did their best to slime him. I think that's why they chose him; through normal news operations they couldn't make nearly this big a splash with it. They want to get him. Millions of people do.

@@cowmath77 I mean I don’t really wanna debate this but based off of the books I’ve read (Elon Musk and Liftoff) he was born in South Africa to middle class parents. I could be wrong though. Where are you reading that he was born into top 1%? Edit: Also for anyone bother to read this. That whole 1/3 seems more emotional than factual. Books like “The millionaire next door” have shown that around 80% of millionaires did not receive their fortune from their parents or trust funds. Most are first gen millionaires
@dixonpinfold25822 жыл бұрын
@@cowmath77 His dad was a hard-working engineer who had the energy to also be a businessman. He was supposedly bad to his family, but also supposedly earned his money fairly. Most of us know at least at second-hand of that sort of thing, someone good at what they do, who succeeds. It's not ugly. Much is made of him "owning" an emerald mine, but it was just some shares in the thing (maybe quite a few, but a minority stake anyway). They were given him as pay from a client instead of cash, for work he did. I see nothing wrong with having parents who earned a lot of money. But maybe you do, and it is your right. (Btw, what is "extremely wealthy"? And how exactly do you know that about someone else? As a rule it is something you never know about anyone for sure. His family had a nice house and paid for private schooling. Were there yachts or something? Are there gory details you should share?) Anyway, it resulted in him having a childhood in a family able to afford what people want. I see nothing wrong with that either. As a teenager he ceased to further benefit from the family's resources, as I understand it, and moved to Canada with $2,000 in his pocket. He worked as a manual labourer at first, on a farm and at a sawmill in Saskatchewan. He lived a frugal and bare-bones existence for several more years as a university student in Canada and Pennsylvania until he made some money in his 20s. He had racked up $100k in student loans. This is what I've gathered from my reading. It is necessarily incomplete, as is yours no doubt, but even if he did get money from his family-I've heard that he did ($40k from his mother) and I've heard that he didn't-I don't think that counts against him. If you lent or gave some money to your child, would you then think less of them, or think it right if others thought less of them? I doubt it, but if you did, let's hear why. I confess your reply smacks strongly of envy. As for Tesla batteries, you should look into their recyclability. I take it you have not. Let's also hear your ideas for transportation. Aside from fossil fuels and batteries, where can we turn except to the bicycle? We can't propel cars like Fred Flintstone did.

I like Elon as the choice for Person of The Year, but I wish the interviewer and the other commentators here would treat him with a little more respect. I get Elon's M.O. tends to be more casual, but some of these questions and criticisms felt condescending rather than playful or investigative.

Person of the decade. Where policy makers throw bills and budgets at problems, Elon is the man doing the legwork through private enterprise. Whether starting a private space race, innovating on the electric vehicle, green energy solutions, robotics, artificial intelligence and automation. He does it all. No single individual in history can claim to have furthered humanity on so many frontiers than Elon Musk.
@FVWhimsy20102 жыл бұрын
He is a person who is not paying his share of taxes...imagine what other people could achieve with their money, in a tax free environment? Musk's wealth comes from actual taxpayers buying his products...and paying taxes on the money that they give to him. Not paying his taxes makes him a free loader...not person of the year.

Tesla- he didn't found the company nor it is his vision, private space race- it is only area elon has actually achieved something, Green energy solutions- lies lies lies, Robotics- showcasing a man with spandex and cgi animation is kinda laughable, Ai and automation- his "self driving" is still unreliable and incomplete or i shall i say still in " pre-alpha" and his neurolink is just a overpromise gimmick shit. Edit: his self driving shit is banned from several countries cause it's unsafe, his vegas Hyperloop was laughably failure, he promised about tesla truck back in 2017 which he claimed to be 10 times better than diesel truck.
