As many of you already know a few weeks ago I was in a car accident. My car is totaled but thankfully neither me or the other driver suffered any major injuries! I also share with you all a story about a pretty horrifying accident my mom & I were in back in 2018. Thank you for following along and all of the support!

I highly recommend a 2020 Toyota Prius. They are extremely reliable, low maintenance, practical and a huge gas saver. I use to drive BMW, Mercedes and even own a Lamborghini Huracan at one point. One day I drove a 2018 Prius Prime and absolutely fell in love with the practicality of it. Sold both my BMW and Mercedes after that. Now I have a Lexus and Prius Prime and wouldn't want it any other way.

@@Ex-PokerGuy and I would never own a Toyota. Long ago, 2 people were blinded when their passenger airbags inflated unexpectedly. The CEO of the company resigned over this. (Honorable culture.) Later, more events, same circumstances, not related to the industry recall over defective inflators in the last decade. My bias may not be lucid, but if I was blinded, I would feel I was also to blame. Besides, my VW and Harley have been dependable machines, so why switch.

Hi Julia...I'm a 35 yr Auto mechanic who assisted in writing the safety standards requirements here in Ontario Canada and without a moments hesitation I highly recommend a Volvo product esp a XC90 or XC60 you wouldn't believe the stories of miraculous survival that these cars have achieved for their owners..just do it!

Wait until after Christmas before buying a new car. The biggest savings of the year are the last 3 days before New Years Day when the dealerships are desperately trying to get the last 2020 cars off the lot. I would seriously be looking for a Subaru or a Toyota Rav 4. Honda CRV or Mazda 3 or 5 model is also excellent. Remember to go your bank or airline credit union to get pre approval financing for a car loan to give the dealer the incentive to beat your banks interest rate and APR to save money on car payments. Also very important is to look for gap insurance on your own and not just accept the dealer’s gap insurance prices. Call your insurance agent and see what they charge specifically for gap insurance on top of what they will normally charge for the regular insurance you will need. Gap insurance covers the difference from what you owe the bank and what the insurance will pay if you total the next car in an accident. Watch KZbin videos first on how to avoid hidden or junk fees from the dealership finance department. Remember the only fees you must pay by law are the ones with an asterisk after the number because those taxes and fees are being charged by the state and not being paid to the dealer as compensation. Do not fall for stupid charges as dealer prep which is literally just a car wash and putting air in tires. You don’t need “interior treatment” for 500 bucks as you can literally buy a can of scotch guard at an auto parts store and do the same thing for 20 bucks. Laser etchings of your vin number for “security “ is also stupid and a waste of money. It doesn’t help to get your car back at all nor does it deter theft. Long term extended warranties are not necessary to buy at the dealership especially for a wasted $2000 dollars. You can buy one in a few years for cheaper cost if you still own the car in 5 years. Never pay for an “advertising fee” because the cost of advertising is already in the original sales price you negotiated before walking into the finance room. Stick to your guns, Julia. The salesman are not your friends and are financially doing just fine so don’t fall for their sob stories about having to “eat and feed their families”. It’s all to use your sweet nature against you to prevent you from fighting back against a bad deal.

Honda's and Toyota's are honestly the best value for both your wallet and safety. Its a small suv so its very similar to the RAV4 you had a while back!

Julia, I drive a Kia Forte EX GDI. I bought it used with 28k miles on it. It has been super reliable, and the normal maintenance, plus routine oil changes have kept it running strong. I only paid $13k for it. It has been the best car I have ever owned. Good luck finding an affordable vehicle. I have been in involved in 3 car accidents. Two in the winter, and one horrific one where a truck was stalled across the road on an interstate, on a not well it road.

I'm so glad both you and the other driver are OK! Car accidents are horrifying - in 1995 I was driving to work after just having had my '91 Hyundai serviced - my brake pedal pad slipped off and I thought I had no brakes - I grabbed the e-brake, the car veered sideways on an icy bridge and I was T-boned by a full-sized van going 40 - amazingly I was still walking afterwards! My car was a mangled mess! I experienced the exact feelings as you described when I lost control - WOW!

God Julia that’s awful twice in two years! Do let me know if you’d like any help with choosing another car as cars are something i love! Depending on your price range, some good cars are Honda, Toyota (as I am sure you know!) Volvo (a bit pricier though) and I would recommend Volkswagen as well as a good solid car. There’s also this feature called AEB on cars (Autonomous Emergency Braking), you may have heard of it, it basically works by using a camera and a radar to sense if an accident may happen and can warn you and also stop the car completely to prevent an accident. I would definitely look for that feature on a new car. Hope this information helps and again let’s hope none of this happens again anytime soon!

I’m glad you are Ok, I was involved in a minor accident on Thursday night, the roads were very slippery, but my car wasn’t totaled and no one got hurt. In the end you can get another car but not another life. I always pray before I drive because you never know what could happen while driving.

I got into a very serious car accident back in July. I flipped over at least 4 times and flew almost of the bridge. Since that day I told meselyf I want a more reliable car and ended up getting the hyundai kona 2020. It is the perfect size car, good on gas, 4by4, airbags EVERYWHERE, and very simple I highly recommend :)

you and i are in a very similar situation. i hydroplaned on the freeway in my first car in 2019 and spun across two lanes before hitting another vehicle. luckily everyone was okay, and although the car was totaled i managed to get another one. then, a few days ago, i looked over my shoulder to check my blind spot, not realizing that traffic had stopped, and rear-ended the car in front of me. i’d just been getting over the anxiety from my first accident and then this happened. i have to go out car shopping in the next few days because this car was also totaled, but i have so much anxiety about driving again. you’re so right when you say that time stops; it seems to happen so slowly yet so quickly at the same time.

My dad recently did Vroom. You get a week to drive your car and make a choice. It was a great time to discover the quirks and get compensation for unknown defects. They had great customer service. (Many people say not great things but we had a great experiance. Way easier than playing games at a dealership.)

As I sit watching you, I had news yesterday that an acquaintance and her boyfriend ( both 23) were killed in an accident yesterday while driving on a slick freeway and broadsided by an 18 wheeler. So very sad. I am grateful you, and your mom earlier, were not seriously injured. I believe you are blessed and I will keep you in my prayers. Big hugs from the old man. I remember when my oldest son was around 3-4, we were driving in the right lane on a highway, someone decided at the last second to get off the next exit ramp and cut in front of me. I slammed on my brakes, and spun I don't know how many times. I just remember thanking God there were no other cars around me. My son asked "Mom why are you driving funny?" I'm so glad you got out of the accident safely! As for cars, I had a Kia Soul that rated high on the safety scale, and it's very affordable. Just make sure you get those extra blind spot mirrors, cause the blind spots suck!

Look at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests on Autonomous Emergency Braking. Ford, Hyundai and Kia were epic fails. They all ran right into a simulated pedestrian. The Subaru stopped and was awarded the highest safety rating.

I have a 2014 kia soul now. I had a 1998 Pontiac sunfire and I loved that car. Only had 4 months before it was officially paid off. Was the first car I paid off by myself. I was very lucky. I had gotten a 2001 Saturn SL2 after the crash. It was the best car. I had for almost 14 years before the transmission went. I still can't drive down the street it happened on. The force knocked me in a ditch. I had a bad bruise on my arm from the airbag. I'm glad you're ok. Take care

I am so glad everyone is okay. It is super scary no matter how small. I got in a bad accident 15 years ago and was flown to shock trauma. When I was released I wouldn’t get in the car for nearly a year. To this day I still am nervous every time I get in a car

Hi! So glad you’re ok! ❤️ I was in a bad wreck in January of 2008. The roads were slick here as well. I was in a small Toyota pickup, setting still, and got rear ended by a semi that was jackknifing at 55mph. The driver’s side back tire of my pickup literally ended up UNDER the cab of my truck, it got bashed in that far. But thank God, I climbed out WITHOUT A SCRATCH!! During my 13 years as an EMT, I’ve seen people get killed in accidents with less damage than what I climbed out of. I do have to give a shout out to 911 dispatchers. They are some of the most awesome people on the planet! 💛 If you ever meet one in person, thank them for their service. They don’t hear that enough. I know several dispatchers personally. During one bad snowstorm, (I was working on the ambulance during this particular storm) one of these amazing people had to answer so many 911 calls, between her and one other dispatcher, they averaged a call every 45 seconds for the entire 12hr shift! And last but not least, my vehicle suggestion is a Subaru. Great safety ratings, they’re all wheel drive if you and Eric go to Colorado in the winter, and they get good gas mileage.

Julia, a few years ago I was rear-ended, totaling my van. I subsequently bought a used Honda Odyssey from Car Max. I have had good luck with it, and have put over 35,000 miles on it so far. I have a 2017 Honda Accord hybrid. It has lane assistance and brakes for you if objects are too close. Last year, driving from Florida to Kansas, we hit a really bad snow storm in St. Louis. What is normally a 4 hour trip, was a 7 hour trip. Many cars in ditches or off the road. We made it safely and my fiancé who prefers a 4-wheel drive truck was impressed how well the Honda did in the snow. We had no issues. I bought this car because my mom had an accord and it was an awesome car. Good luck and very thankful you were not hurt! Also, when I travel with my Pomeranian I use one of the seat belts for dogs. I have used both the kind that plugs into the seat belt receptical and the kind that goes over the headrest. She seems to do best with the seat belt one, but both have kept her very safe when/if the brakes are used unexpectedly.

We were in one bad one back in 1997. My wife was driving then I had known her about three days. Her injuries were from me being slammed into her. The drunk driver hit my door. I was in the hospital for over 7 weeks. I got my memory return two days before being release from the hospital.

Thank god you’re ok! Car accidents are so traumatizing. I was in one in 2008 and I still get nervous being a passenger in a car because of that. My suggestion for a car would be another Toyota. I have the Corolla, it’s 8 years old and (knock on wood) I have had no issues with it. I’ve only had to do routine oil changes and 2 years ago I had to do my brakes, which I was told they lasted longer then normal. I did a lot of research before buying it because my previous car was a money pit, I was constantly having to take it in to get fixed. The Corolla has good reviews all around for safety, longevity, maintenance etc. They’re relatively inexpensive compared to other cars and amazing on gas! Also for being a smaller sized vehicle it is great in the snow (I know that probably isn’t as much of a factor for you living in Texas).

Thank goodness you are okay - you've had a rough few months. I can't stress how important it is to wear your seatbelt, and this is a perfect example of why. I hope you and Eric are able to have a happy Christmas despite all that come your way recently. As for a new car, depends what you are looking for and how much you can afford right now. Not trying to be personal but obviously not working full time may mean you need to be prudent in your choices. I would always recommend Hondas and Toyotas as they are both reliable brands that make solid, great vehicles, so you can't really go wrong looking at Corollas, Civics, Accords, CR-Vs, RAV-4s. Fords are probably the best domestic brand, and they certainly seem to be more aggressive in offering year end deals and discounts, especially if you are willing to look at close out models. Around me, there are $200/mo lease offers on some Escapes, which isn't bad unless you need to do more miles. Finally, don't forget Mazda - the CX-5 (and smaller CX-30) are amazing SUVs, safe and reliable with luxury-level dashboards and features, and they offer real driving enjoyment. The 3 is a very stylish small car if you don't want an SUV. Mazdas do tend to be slightly more expensive than Fords, GMs, etc. more in line with Honda and Toyota pricing, but they are my recommendation, at least for a test drive!! Hopefully there is a dealer near you.

More important than anything else is that you and the other driver made it out ok. I’m a retired Florida State Trooper and worked my share of crashes, I was always glad to work the minor ones. On a side note, you might have to start packing and get ready to go to work again!

A lot of new cars have safety driving assistance that will stop the car for you if it detects something ahead that will cause a crash. Most new cars come standard with these features now. I have a 2020 Honda Civic hatchback and it’s a great car with lots of room, great gas mileage, lots of standard safety features and good reliability history.

January of 2019 my car got totaled on the highway. I was stopped completely for construction and the driver behind me was high and driving like 80 miles an hour. She smashed into me and then I hit an older couple in front of me. Thankfully no one was hurt but it can be so scary!

Oh luv... So glad u were not seriously injured. Driving these days is scary on the best of days. Lived all my life in Vegas, cool ur momz lives there now, but relocated to Seattle for jobs. So, I can relate to bad road conditions. As for a car, make sure u get one w all wheel drive. It's just better all around. Better handling and traction in conditions up to light snow. Also, check out the KZbin channel Redline Revues. Sofyan is the best car review guy around. The new Volkswagen ID4 is a good bet for u. Eco friendly electric w good range. The first new car I bought was a black Ford Fiesta similar to your old one, but a bit older. I loved it. It was great to drive. But I since have had a couple of Mazda 3s. The new model is excellent and even the cheaper ones are well equipped. Better than all the others in the same class. Would recommend.

I have a 2014 Toyota Camry. I bought it a few years ago with about 60,000 miles and now it has about 80,000 miles. My mechanic says Toyota’s are one of the best cars and I should be able to keep it for a long long time. The Toyota Corollas are looking really nice too.

I went from a Ford Edge (which I liked a lot) to a Mazda CX-5, you should check one out. I really like it, it get really good mileage for an SUV, it isn't huge but very comfortable on long drives.

Stay safe! ❤️ Car accidents suck. I had a minor car accident in June this year, luckily no one got injured. I absolutely hated it though, because the accident was my fault and it was my moms car. I only had my drivers license for five months, almost a year now. I’m still scared of driving but I know it’s the best thing to so! Thanks for telling your story, it helps a lot!

I'd recommend driving a Volvo as they are extremely protective as I know a few people who have had them and have walked away from a crash unscathed.

I've been in 3 major accidents. In all of them cops and EMts were so surprised nothing to horrible happened. In all of these from car crashes to deer flipping are car, we were in Honda's and it was fine.

I appreciate you sharing your story. I just had my first accident a couple of days ago. I strongly suggest anyone any car with “safety connect”. I have a Toyota Camry myself.

Glad you are ok Julia! I've had a few close calls where I was almost rear-ended on the highway. The most memorable one being the summer after sophomore year of college where I was driving across the Hudson River north of NYC and changing lanes. 😰! So glad nothing happened! Anyway, for cars, I'd DEFINITELY check out Subaru Outbacks! They're super awesome! I'd look for a used one bc if it was well taken care of by the previous owner(s), it will last you a long time 😀.

So so happy you're safe! My situation sounds so familiar. I Had accidents in Salt Lake and New York. Both ok. But SLC, I was passed out from collision. Good, you didn’t lose Consciousnesses during your experiences. Anyway, I own and love Honda’s. But I did rent a Toyota Corolla, and it surprised me how great it was. Good Luck and Be & Stay Safe.

It's good to hear that you're alright after the accident because Miss Luna needs you. :) I had my own car accident back in May. I was driving my work vehicle, hydroplaned while driving on the interstate, and stuffed the car into the concrete wall. I don't recommend trying it. Luckily, I only suffered a mild concussion, a small cut on my finger, and some bruising from the seat belt.

I just got into a car accident in the end of November and I can totally relate🥲. At the moment of the collision my brain just froze and couldn’t function for 1 or 2 minutes. I was lucky enough that both parties did not have any passengers on the car and we were both physically fine, no ambulance needed in the scene. After the accident it took me a week or so to relieve my mental stress and I tried talking to families and friends more often, having them stay with me so I don’t get too anxious and depressed. I’m glad that you and the other driver were not seriously injured Julia! Life goes on and I wish you having a safe and happy holiday season. As for reliable cars I do like Lexus a lot but it’s quite expensive, I guess I’ll work my way to have one in the future☺️
