This is like my sister and her husband!! She was 19 when she met her husband who is from Singapore. She met him back when people used MSN chat. They fell in love while chatting online, and then she decided to go over there by herself and meet him. Of course, my family and others had reservations and were skeptical, but eventually they felt like it was the right thing for her to do. She came back from Singapore after meeting him, then not long later went back and they got married. She's now a Singaporean citizen, she and her husband have been married for about 15 years, and they have two adorable Chinese-Caucasian boys.

Yeah marrying a citizen will make life 100 times easier and faster when it comes to the legal side of things but it’s not the only way to reside in the UK legally. Yeah that's the thing. As a parent I'd have highly encouraged them giving it some time, up to 2-4 years, and then determining if this is serious enough to continue into what they're doing now. ~20 is still where a lot of changes can happen in just a year or two.
