Even if you murder someone post 2020 you only get a 5 to 10 years in prison, and that's just sentencing not time actually served. Anything less than murder and you're lucky if they do any prison time.

Shes a victim. Survivor because the trash rapist wasn't a killer. A warrior would have fought off the attack or died trying. She didn't do anything wrong, but not saying she's a victim takes away from the awful crime. A crime needs a victim.

He's a victim too. It's very likely he feels like a failure for not being there to protect her and I'm sure he's struggling with guilt and shame. Those are the kinds of things men commit suicide over so it's important for him to get help and understanding too.

I know a lot of people here are looking at the boyfriend in a negative way but I also wanna throw another opinion out there. I think that he really cares about her but hearing the details makes him feel like a failure. He probably thinks he failed her and their relationship by not being there for her in a moment where she needed him the most and hearing the details and how bad it was throws him into a deeper depression because he thinks to himself why was I not there? He isn't minimizing her trauma by the way that she speaks of him he clearly cares about her and treats her with a lot of love. He's not calling himself a victim he's not minimizing the fact that she's a survivor of something terrible he's just simply hates that he couldn't stop it. I'm sure when she feels comfortable telling him details and he doesn't feel like he's in the mindset of feeling like he failed her he will want to know fully what happened. I do think they both need therapy, not just her. This is just a sad story but im glad she survived. And im glad he is by her side through it.

She's doesn't owe him her life as she moves forward therapeutically. They aren't married. He cannot be a furtherance of trauma for her. He has to be on a healing journey or she should be free to say to him - I can't live and breathe and heal if you remain paralyzed with your depression.

I really feel for this woman! I think John may have missed the possibility that her boyfriend no longer looks at her as a “pure” woman because someone else has touched her sexually. If the boyfriend hears the details, it might cause him to think about the assault every time they kiss or have sex and therefore he doesn’t want to hear it. Hopefully, John is right and it’s because he felt he couldn’t protect her, but if it’s not, she needs to end the relationship because he will always think bad even if it’s wasn’t her fault.

Why does he need to hear the details? This event doesn't define her as a person. Nor, does it have to dictate her future. I'm glad she has a trained therapist to pour out everything to & help her process what happened and get guidece on how to move through it. It's good for him to go to her therapy with her, but if he's not up for hearing details, then he should not have to. No need to traumatize him with details. He may have questions about some things, so maybe he could meet with the therapist ahead of time to ask what's ok to ask about, and what's not. Just be sure they don't have anything planned after the appointment, so he can process whatever he hears. At the therapy appointment, I hope she tells him how grateful she was that he got to the scene so quickly and that she didn't have to deal with the aftermath alone, and that he's continuing to be by her side... that was huge and has no doubt helped her so much to have him by her side. The therapy may be a safe place where he can ask questions of how to help and support her better and things like intimacy after something that should be beautiful was used to hurt her. And, how to go back to being real with each other, and not worrying she might fall apart or if this happens again. Praying for them. 🙏🙏

Because if you are signing up to be someone's life partner they need to be able to feel comfortable sharing everything and anything with that person. She has expressed that clearly she wishes to confide in him. And he's putting a wall up. His job is to support her through this, not make the situation about him. Though when she mentioned he was already diagnosed with depression that makes sense

Unfortunately in general most people as not good listeners and it appears to me that her boyfriend is trying to shrug off that this happened and doesn`t want to be a part of it. The guy is not a good boyfriend and she should call time because he is not supportive at her time of needing support and getting over the trauma.

A supportive partner helps share burdens with the other. It’s not like she cheated on him or enjoyed the experience. Comparing sex and rape is comparing apples to oranges. Victims shouldn’t have to bottle up their pain without an outlet. If you can’t share your pain with your partner, then they aren’t a safe partner. Yes, people aren’t always going to be in the mental state to support someone else with their trauma, but they should be able to with time or in general. His recommendation about couple communicating their trauma through writing and responding when they feel more comfortable is a great recommendation.

That's very insensitive. My husband was physically abused growing up. I know everything down to the smallest details of what happened because he is able to discuss them with me. The abuse I experienced is of a different variety so my husband doesn't know the details, it's too difficult for him and I respect that. But there are memories I have that I’ve learned to bottle. I used to stare out and when he asked what I was thinking about I would tell him “just about what happened”. But I didn't like the sad expression he'd make so I started to make up something or try to change the subject so I wouldn't have to lie, though I'm sure he knew what I was doing. Know its been enough time where it's not constantly in my mind. But I still remember and am reminded by certain things and I keep them to myself. I love my husband but I could grow closer to him if he knew more and it would help me heal. It's not a sick thing to talk about. We don't choose what others do and it's definitely NOT like “being with another man”. Your comment is what's actually sick.
