Northern Spain is beautiful and very relaxed, and it isn't invaded by Northern European tourists in summer. If anything a lot of Spanish from the big cities head there in summer to escape the heat.

The rain in Spain falls mainly on the Ame! Tip for itchy mosee bites. The stuff you can buy in a little tube to deaden toothache pain is very effective at stopping the itch from bites. Use sparingly!

Seems like you're having a great time in Spain. You should try to visit Madrid before you retreat out of there. The scenery there looks awesome, and the animals meandering all over just adds to the delight. The terrain looks rustic there with some narrow roads. Puts Gloria and yourself to the test, but you battle on the best you can. Those cows/bulls seem to rule the place where you are. Like they're saying it's out territory and you're the guest...LOL That car off the road was scary, hope no one was hurt, but that looked strange. Too bad you're dealing with rain, hopefully it clears up soon. Thanks again for sharing your adventures with us Ame, have a great weekend.. Lovely to be taken along with you and your journey in Spain. I highly recommend visiting Córdoba in Andalusia, absolutely gorgeous! The weather and sights are immaculate, especially the Great Mosque. Also home to Manolete, Manuel Rodriguez Sanchez, often said to the best Bullfighter to ever live. A lot of interesting history there for sure! Making me as a Norwegian miss Spain. And not just as a drunk in my early twenties Scandi (or Brit for that matter - come on, we all remember you Brits begging the Scandis for a factor 50 sunscreen ) just landing in the sun getting drunk for two weeks. More as an adult, respecting all the locals, renting a car and driving all around the South and just soaking it all in. It really grows on you. Spanish coast camping is my all time favorite childhood memory despite boiling radiators from those steep hills. I love you are so quintessentially English despite your adventures and even more so in Spain. Just remember to ask yourself what your alter ego Lady Penelope would do when you are in difficulty. Perhaps painting Gloria pink on the outside would be an important (and highly practical) step in the right direction. All the best.

I know you love France but it's great to see you stepping a little way out of your comfort zone to explore Spain. I spent a year working in the south of Spain and then hopped on a ferry to Morocco, drove through Algeria and into Tunisia then got another ferry to Sicily and then drove back up through Italy on the way back to the UK. At the time it was a great way to get a little taste of "Africa" without embarking on a huge expedition. Not sure what Algeria is like these days. It was considered a bit sketchy when I was there but it was fine as long as you kept your wits about you.

11:25 If you ever get in a jam an the van won’t climb in first. Turn around and try reverse. It’s in an even lower gear. The engine revs more but the speed is lower. But you have to drive backwards.

Ame you need mosquito wrist bands,wipes,roll on or just a couple of drops of citronella on you and on gigis neck and in the van. And a citronella candle to have on in the van basically anything you can get your hands on citronella scented , put it on at dusk and around water areas and never been bitten again.spain looks delightful.gigi is just so cute im glad you have a side kick along with you.❤

I loved my visit to Spain in '17. Toledo, Montserrat, and the beaches of Barcelona and its Olympic fountain were my fav parts. Our tour motorcoach entered via Basque country, we'd stayed the night B4 in a rainy Lourdes and also saw Biarritz the afternoon before Lourdes. I've been traveling to Europe since being a teen in '77, on tours and on my own, from the States, but only made it to Spain in '17 luckily just b4 Covid. I've never driven a car in Europe--only place I've driven outside the US was while traveling on business in Canada. I'd never make it thru Europe's narrow streets, which is why my three solo trips were only by train. Every time I hailed a cab, except oddly in London, they had those huge cabs in '84, when in Europe I was in Panic City, Mexico was the only place that was worst--strike that--my cab experience in our own New York City in '99 was the worst--me and my colleagues wanted to seriously beat up the crazy driver who tried to scam us by taking the worst way from JFK to Grand Central Station, and he nearly got us eliminated by yelling at every driver in his way. Your drives are like liquid valium in comparison--thanks for making me smile and sharing them, and places I remember, like the Beatles song.
