I can't believe a bunch of guys would show up with chainsaws and no one had an extra chain. I thought it was standard practice for everyone to have one to two extra in their saw kit even if it's only one you replaced. I keep an extra with each saw and I'm just using my saw for my personal land maintenance and firewood. All it takes is one rock and your done.

I started replacing pull cords with paracord years ago. Far more durable than factory cordage. You can always cut a branch from the many around you for a pull handle if needed. You can wrap the scabbard of that hand saw with duct tape and paracord so you have both on hand without taking up prime real estate in your pack.

Houston make a snow plow for the top of your roof to where it has wheels and it's small enough to where they can get it up on your roof and it's just corrupt to wear it pushes it off the roof and it has wheels and you just roll it and you have like a little thing like a little motor turning like a real or something like a electric motor or a cam so that way it'll jolt back and forth so that way you can actually move the snow off your roof so

Glad to see you back in one piece, I can only imagine how hard that work is. I'm not a firefighter, but I do have go bags for work, I work as a carpenter and do a lot of onsite installing. I have several bags for various occasions, fortunately I don't have to worry about the weight of the bags, but I do have to make sure I have what I need. Working in downtown Tokyo means it can be much more than two hours to go to my shop and back and hardware stores are not common here, so I have to make sure that I have what I need, and so often I get asked to fix stuff that was never on the list of things to do in client's offices or homes, LOL, so being prepared and having a lot of stuff in small packages has really paid off for me. Almost every job I learn something new and adjust my go bags just a little bit. Cheers!

I would add a flat magnet on a cord in a ziploc sometimes stuff falls on the ground and its a life saver. In that kit and zip ties. I bought a timberline sharpener out of idaho they are made to see if it was decent and getting used to it. I wish it was stainless vs aluminum but its a product the local hardware store recommended they do not sell. I have 2 huskies. Not sure if i can buy those special bars for mine though. I would put some gas line for the end of your bar tools. Sometimes I need extra gas lone for something else. I was thinking about eventually building that old gas gan he has out of stainless eventually. Getting my hypertherm powermax fixed and next a roller. To bend steel.

Beautiful saw! I was out at the Jolly Mountain fire too - but down on the ground in Roslyn watching the logging show. The air assets were flying directly over the show on the way into the smoke and fire. I think there was a helicopter too, but did not see it. One of the strike teams was written up in the Ellensburg paper - was that your team? I'll try to find the article if interested.

Hi.wrangle.Just a heads up.I am a 64 year old timber faller,Fell for 40 years.been a stihl master tech for 18 years. When it comes to your 461 or 661 make sure it is not a (c) version. These are computerized saws.Every tech in the world thinks they can improve or hop up these saws.wrong, they can destroy your saw.The computer makes adjustments for everything out their just like your vehicle.Messing with ports and such just creates more computor problems. We put to highly modified husky 395s against a 661c the 661 out cut every time.stock.Reason being the computor automatically changes the carb settings for load and will lean the saw out for more power as needed without hurting the saw.Can not do that with a conventional saw.Yes guys are modifying these saws.you have to replace the flywheel, the ignition and the carb for the tune of 1000.00 dollars. Why mess with something that works better from the get go.Beats me.Luck Mcbain.

Hey Cody, what my crew does and pretty much any other type 2 IA or type 1 crew does is have your swamper carry a pounder. A pounder is usually just a pulaski that has the axe head cut off of it with a piece of plate steel welded on, making it a good tool to be able to pound wedges and still dig if need be. It's also great to throw a dolmar around the handle to carry with. All of us keep a small wedge in the pocket of our chaps and then stackables in the side pockets of our line gear. And if you're falling or bucking anything big enough that you need the stackables, its pretty accepted to take off your pack and keep it off while you're cutting.

The 461 isn't as popular here in Oz for a fire fighting saw, we use the bigger 661 and only run a 25" bar generally as well for the sawyer/falling teams or the smaller 381 with a 20" bar for general purpose work however our new tanker came with a 311 with a 20" bar as standard. Personally I'm a fan of the 66 family of saws, my 066 is still going strong at 20+ years old 😁

Cody have you thought of putting a line pack together for just sawyer work? I know another expense and another set of gear to drag along, but it would keep you from having to switch gear around. You could have your fire line pack, your Sawyer pack, and like you said in a previous video drop your bag off your fire line pack for when your working on the engine.

I have a MS441 Magnum and it's been the absolute best saw I've ever owned or used. Strange that others told you it's such an issue for most. Guess we have the luck of the draw. Another thing I think would be a great add for your spare parts kit is some extra carb fuel line since it's lite weight, and could go in your plastic bag easily. That stuff can get brittle and who knows how long some guys saw has been sitting. Just a thought for ya. Love your videos and thank you for sharing.

Hey Cody. I live in Cape Town South Africa and I'm training to become a volunteer wildfire fighter with our VWS services here. We often get bush fires in the Table Mountain Reserve and all around in the cape fold mountains during the dry summer (we are currently experiencing a drought). The erratic and strong coastal winds are also a huge factor. Our training is largely based on the American system since you are the leaders in the field. The large difference being that we don't use chainsaws as our mountains are mainly covered in Feinbos (a family of Bush only found here in the cape peninsula) the only trees and forests we have are alien pines which are largely being removed because of the drought. We therefore don't have the danger of snags which I hear is the biggest killer in America for firefighters? We have the same safety checks and 10 standard firefighting orders as you guys I think. It has been made apparent to me that whenever things go wrong, you can almost always trace the error back to a violation of one of these fire orders. For example, my ACL last weekend was telling me about the Knysna fire a few months ago (massive, and super destructive) and how 2 people in his unit died due to a crew being negligent with planning of safety zones and escape routes. I'm not sure if you've already done this but can please make a video where you talk about these safety procedures, checks and rules and relate them to your personal experiences. I would really be interested to know more about how you guys actually tackle wildfires in the forests and what sort of safety planning goes into it (escape routes, lookouts, safety zones, choosing where to fight etc). Also how you are constantly aware/looking for these these checks and situations and how it impacts your behavior on the line. Keep up the great work Cody! I really enjoy and appreciate your channel.

That is a little to much for a fire line saw kit compensate for a long day on the move. To much weight can wear you down quick you wanna be able to last all day and into the next. You want more water over to much parts. Crazy can tell this guy never really ran a saw on the line.

Glad to see you home, safe and sound! I've seen an older saw engine used to spin a 12 volt alternator (and a small 12 volt battery for base power and an inverter for 120 volts ) used to make a small power head that powered small work lights for night work and such. The motor is not under a lot of loading and runs well, and the easy to move power head is useful. Might you consider such a use for an older saw?

Cody, thanks for your service. I would recommend adding a sprocket, sprocket washer and e clip to your saw parts kit. You thought bar nuts are hard to find if you lose them in the dirt, try finding a dropped e clip.

Cody, the 3/4 wrap handle is available everywhere. What is not is the West Coast clutch cover without special order. If you look at the clutch cover on a standard MS461 you will notice it is significantly smaller than yours. Keep up the good work and stay safe. That MS461 with modifications takes no prisoners!

Ive ran Stihl professionally in many different situations for 30 plus years used abused dropped 90' bent the bar straight put cover back on cranked right up dropped one in swamp drained water cranked an ran years they were stolen before they died and I find Sthil to be the most dependable saw on the market and I have used just about all of them. I can understand you just wanting a new saw. lol

+wranglerstar have you thought about working with a stihl carbide chain? You mentioned hitting rocks with your chain, it's the 1st thing that came to mind.

I have a little Stihl 049 Farm Boss. I bought it in 1996. It starts on the third pull. I don't use it like you do, but it's been a good saw for me.
