Im pretty sure most of Gabriels subs are aware of the fact that Kazachstan is not, haha. Then again, as an American, its probably best to avoid many places in America itself too. Last year I went to NYC just as a tourist, and I have probably never felt as unsafe in The Bronx. It was already pretty late and something in the back of my head said... I really have to get out of here before dark, and I never really had that feeling as strong, just by the general vibe of the area, in my entire life.

What about UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi) Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Jordan and much more, they are hardly a dangerous places for a US citizen to visit right now, they are very safe places actually

@@Seanney25582 Unless you are gay of course. Or like beer. Or have a political opinion about the leadership of those countries. Or just happen to accidentally film the wrong person at the wrong time. I doubt it matters a lot in those cases where you are from, even the US. Safety is not only crime or war related. Ask any South Asian, Philipino or Indonesian immigrant in any of the countries you just named.

Imagine that security chief getting a call from the Emir himself: " Erm... so im brushing my teeth here and looking out of my window and im really wondering why there is this hippy looking dude on my front lawn filming my house???" " Delete!!! Delete!!!" But more seriously yeah, thats the worst thing about an authoritarian state: There are so many rules and restrictions that they can basically get you on anything if they really want because it is just very likely that you completely incidentally did something wrong at some point. Especially when everything is filmed and monitored 24/7.

Every country has their own set of rules, traditions, laws etc. and some level of restriction on tourism or something my friend. Just do enough research on customs and whatnot before traveling to any foreign place.

I lived here my whole life and not once did i even have an encounter with the police, not one officer even saw my drivers license, but sure Kuwait is "authoritarian" you do unusual things that draws attention police will probably want to investigate, vlogging is uncommon here so it makes sense someone will ask what you're doing

It's not just in strictly controlled countries that you can't film certain buildings. If you film or take pictures of for example the Haga Palace here in Sweden (a full fledged western democracy), you can be arrested and most likely you will be fined if you do that, that is the palace of our Crown Princess and her husband, it's located in Solna in the Stockholm metropolitan area. Same applies to pretty much any military installation even in urban areas. Tourists here has been arrested and fined for this, most recently a tourist who thought a part of the navy base in UNESCO world heritage town Karlskrona was a museum (the base is from the 17th century so it's easy to see how this could happen). There are similar rules in Denmark, Norway and Finland, probably also more countries. Safe travels!

15 years ago we where in Washington DC ...the police would not let anyone near the White house... had the roads n side walks blocked off...said the presidents wife was enjoying the veggie garden n they were protecting her...i can understand that...just saying...not taking photos is a thing in all countries.

A country without any rules or restriction would be completely ridiculous, that would just literally be an anarchy. The thing is rather, that in Sweden you can say you dont like that you cant take those pictures, vote for a party who doenst like that or even start your own party. For example the Swedish Republican Association openly advocates the abolishment of the monarchy (and with that the restrictions on Haga Palace). That is a very big difference from a country like Kuwait, and an important civil right that has been fought for by many for a very long time.

Maybe next video can be very different, we will see. I got a feeling that Gabriel hasn't entered the real center of the city as I know that there are some nice looking Orthodox churches (from Russian times). All we have seen so far were appartment blocks of buildings from Soviet times, nearly all the same. But interesting that there are still some Soviet sculptures in the park and that some people still feel nostalgic about the USSR there.

Almaty is much more interesting than this video. I am sure Gabriel will show the more interesting and indeed fascinating parts. I was there once and what I found really peculiar is that Almaty has a grid system of streets almost like an American city. At the same time the whole city is on a slope. It's fun to roll through the whole city with a bike without ever pushing the pedals.

When the recent problems started in the Gaza Strip, you were the first person I thought of and was checking where you were currently. My brother was on an aircraft carrier during the Gulf War and I watched my mom worry herself silly during that time. I wish you would travel somewhere far, far away from that part of the world for the time being. I worry.

Volunteering information without knowing the person is not a good idea. Specially to taxi drives and touts who can potentially use it to cheat you. Even when you go shopping for souvenirs, the first question is where you from. Then the prices all get adjusted accordingly.

You are quite right telling that one must use caution not to break any law or any custom when travelling in a muslim country. Almaty means ''An apple place'' because of wild apples growing in the environs of the city. There are mountains around the former capital of Kasahstan.

As long as I know, he has been to Shanghai, Hong Kong and disputed Taiwan. So, yes, much more to explore there if he is interested some day, for instance disputed Tibet could be interesting for him. But we all know that he has almost an obsession with India (just like with Greece), as well as his 10-year visa there, so if he is going in that part of the world again, it is 99% India or Nepal.

It was especially known for the skating rink good for many world records etc. The area should be beautiful and it would be interesting to see what is left from the communist times and what is going on there now.

Hi Gabriel, there's no doubt you want to be as diplomatic about traveling, especially around certain countries, it's exactly as you say you don't want to run into a problem where you get arrested and then what. The whole purpose of traveling is to experience the country in all its beauty and spender positive experiences but of course, unfortunately, that includes the bad experiences which happen as well. The problem is it's based on ethnicity, religion, or country of origin so prejudices get in the way. The Middle East is a hotbed, I'm not sure if you've been warned but supposedly Americans are being warned to be careful traveling.

Almaty it's not the capital of Kazakhstan no more, she was the capital of the country until 1997, now the new capital it's Astana very beautiful, it's a political decision strategy for the country, because they didn't want the capital of the country to close to China border, i think your followers people's understand why, Kazakhstan want the capital city the most far from China border, don't forget the Europe continent included Kazakhstan part of Europe, and maybe some in the future years they probably wanted to joined the EU , and i think all your followers people understand why !! Gabriel, You got really lucky. Ministry of Interior in Kuwait and State bans filming there. Unless, you have a media ID or someone is paying you to take your blogs. Legally, you cannot film anyone there without there consent. You could have been arrested and sentenced to three years in prison.

Freedom of speech is not absolute - nowhere in the world. There will always be consequences for what you say, public profanity, swearing is punishable by law 😅 you can be penalized for swearing at someone or in public sorry for your experience. Unfortunately there are laws in place. Be thankful they didn't proceed with legal action. 😅

Watching from Kuwait here. FYI, you were at Al Seif Palace which is the workplace of the Amir, his staff, and a government department. This palace was NEVER hit with a missile as you’ve mentioned. Non of the palaces were hit by any missile. Government buildings are certainly not tourist attractions to visit. Main reason is security. Will you allow me at the White House or the Pentagon? I don’t think so. Anyway, All the attractions can easily be found online. Nothing happened to you in Kuwait, so please please stop making a story out of nothing.

I think Almaty maybe a "marmite" city, love or hate, so far its lacking any character, but said, so sprawling, with brutalist concrete towers, very few points of interest....did look at accommodation prices ...what extremes Carlton Ritz tower £404 a night and majority £25 a night.....maybe the mountains the redeeming feature....look forward to your climbs....

This channel is literally turning into a scam, really low quality content with almost every other vlog a clickbait and catchy headline. I follow and watch this channel like a religion (with two jobs on a side) and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to watch 25/40 mins vlogs nothing more than a random talk (or storm in a tea cup). This vlog of 25 mins isn’t worth 25 seconds and same with previous vlog about taxi scam. Understand you’re pushing for views to fund travel however this is on the expense of loyal viewers which is completely unfair. I could have just unsubscribed however I didn’t because I care and rather not.
