Fun fact: you never really own ANYTHING. Even if you pay off a phone, you still need to pay for service. You own a home, you don’t own the land it sits on. You own a car, you still need to pay registration every year. There is absolutely nothing in this world a person actually owns other than their choices.

I came to the same conclusion in 2015. I went from owing $50.000 to owing nothing in 8 years. The feeling you get from knowing you owe nothing and having savings is a great comforter. If I cannot afford something, I wait and save up the money. I upgrade my phone every 4 years. People forget Apple is a money hungry company with no scruples and will try and fleece you for every penny you have. They serve you and not the other way round. Keep up the good work.

100% agree that people shouldn't buy things that they can't afford, but 0% financing is going to help a lot of people save a lot of money. Just made a video about how much you can save by using the Apple Card. Access to credit generally is like why society was able to expand in the 1900s. It's not evil even if it seems like it.
@Mysticbladegod
@Mysticbladegod Жыл бұрын
But it is evil in a way. It drives people to purchase things they don't need for no good reason. These companies know that and they market to people in such a way to make them think they are lacking something in their lives. These phones barely change from year to year. Payments keep people chained to things unnecessarily. You save 100% when you don't buy something right away
@HelloAirJordan
@HelloAirJordan 3 жыл бұрын
So your saying its only bad if you never actually pay the phone off and keep on getting a new phone. If you do it at 0% APR and pay it off before the year ends then there is no negative in the situation. You just pay the total within that year. Don't see an issue.

Payment plans are NOTHING NEW! People have been buying items on “credit “ forever! I haven’t bought an iPhone since the 6 plus! So I can splurge on a new one! Are you paying for goods and services? Upfront or over time, it’s a choice. Just don’t buy a new phone every time one comes out!
@CandanceOnline

I think that's exactly the Issue People are buying iPhones each year , My thing is I'm buying the new upcoming iPhone 14 Only because I don't have A iPhone & Once I buy this Phone I'm not Buying anything else Until it becomes unusable like for instant Apple stops supporting the phones iOS , then I'll think about buying A New iPhone , Other then that People shouldn't be running & buying A new Phone each year because Hell All you're really getting is A Recycled old iPhone with New Features , Just like the new upcming iPhone 14 is really nothing but a upgraded iPhone 13 that Apple recycled & added new features On it .

totally agree with you. however sometimes you dont want to make a dip in your savings so a payment plan at 0% interest would make sense. What i also do is use the same amount for everything. for example if its $200 for 1 year to get furniture i would not buy anything until that is paid. I am used to living without that $200 so i treat it as a bill. When that payment of over and there is something else that i want, i will take it is if not more than $200, which is now free to use.

Awesome that you have a realistic plan to stay out of debt and even pay off your house before that age of 30. I did the same in my 40's with the goal of being out of debt before 50 and before my kids started college. Of course I've been saving for retirement since my early 20's however but now I'm debt free also and can cash flow my kids college and continue to save for a comfortable early retirement.

Well if you pay your bill upfront or with the monthly payment it shouldn't matter. I would never go into something knowing my income isn't stable and make monthly payments on something, you can lose your job at any point. People get mad because they are choosing to pay for a bad service lose their job and complain when they come to collect. Stop signing up for it!!! pay monthly if you know your job or resource is a gureentee.
@txmoney

I never upgrade to a new phone every year so zero interest monthly payments are no big deal. My general rule of thumb is keep the current phone until the battery life becomes noticeably shorter or the phone performs poorly using various apps. I owned my last phone, (original iPhone SE bought outright), for four years before I upgraded to the iPhone Mini (monthly payment through AT&T for two years). I plan on keeping it for at least three years.

Thank you for your video, this really helped me to make a decision. I was all Android from the beginning, and then in mid 2020, I made the switch to iPhone with their Upgrade Program. I bought the regular iPhone 11, didn't need to go with the Pro/Pro max, just not necessary to spend the extra money. After a year in the upgrade program, Apple made sure that they were notifying me that I was eligible to trade in my phone with several notifications. It was tempting to go for the upgrade, but it wasn't necessary, the phone was still working fine, no problems at all. So I kept my iPhone and it's paid off now. And now I am coming across some good deals, especially if I switch to Verizon, I would get a great deal on the trade in value for the iPhone 11. It's even more tempting. Prior to the iPhone purchase, I have owned mostly LG phones and a couple Samsungs, it seemed like they would almost always hit the dirt at about 2 -2.5 years, whereas many people I know who use iPhones have have them for at least 4 years or longer. I think many of us are conditioned to think once our phone is over 2 years old or it's paid off, that we are going to have some sort of major failure with our devices. I am going to hold onto this iPhone for a couple more years, so that I get more for my money. I could afford a new phone, no problem with that, but I still like this phone and there's nothing wrong with it. I don't need the latest and greatest, I just need something that works for me and is reliable. Thank you again.

I get your point and they are very valid, the problem is Apple and other companies make phones and computers so they are outdated after 3-4 yrs. They upgrade software to the point the will not support older devices and force you to have to but new ones. Just happened with my 2012 iMac and my iPhone 5

It’s really situational. Sometimes it really a better deal to go with the carrier monthly plan because at the end of the day it really is cheaper than paying full price upfront and after two years the phone will eventually be yours but you just have to decide to keep the phone or not. It all depends on the deals you get from your local carriers. If it’s cheaper than paying outright at the beginning why not saving yourself a couple hundred bucks?

We don’t even own our lives. You always invest money in doctors, health insurance, healthy food, exercise, which is like your payment plans, or pay the consequence toll. You own a car you pay taxes. Pay house rent, bills. You never own the electricity or the internet, etc. Live is about how much you make vs how much you spent. And the race is always getting the skills or finding a way to make more money in live. Plans are not bad, it’s just an option, paying the full price up-front is always better. However not always possible. I have a broken phone which I’m using but the speaker is broken and no one can hear my voice. Phone repair places can’t fix it, and I have no money for a full payment up-front. Thanks for the payment plans I can get mine. However the goal will be paying double or triple per month to get rid of pay,ent plans fast. And owning the phone at least 3 to 4 years minimum.

Here’s a good rule of thumb: Don’t use a credit card, if you can’t pay off the balance in full every month. I think it’s a good thing to have debt, as long as you can afford to pay it off on-time without interest. I mean, you’re not likely going to buy a car or house outright with cash.

Think you’re forgetting one basic principle in money management. Invest in appreciating assets, lease depreciating ones. Why tie up capital in buying something that will be worth for less when you sell it, especially on 0% interest that apple is charging. You can leave the money aside, even in a savings account and youd be better off than buying the phone and not getting the interest!
@evacody1249
@evacody1249 2 жыл бұрын
The fact that I can keep my cell bill down. Forget depreciating for a minute. Go to ATT, Verizon, and Tmoblie sites for a minute. Do the monthly payment plan plus the service. Then upgrade every time it comes up. You are caught in a never ending cycle of high payment. Me I pay 45 dollars a month unlimited talk, text and soon to be 75gigs of data with US mobile. I out right own my Samsung galaxy s21 base modle. So that's it that's all I'm paying is 45 dollars a month. So 45 times 12 is 540 dollars a year. Or a can pay of the phone plus pay the service to use the phone. So let's say it's 45 for the phone and the plan. So 90 dollars plus taxes let's say 5 dollars. So 95 x 12 = 1140 I would be shelling out vs 540. Sit down and do the math sometime.

i use my credit card like a cash card (at least i did before covid and depression fucked me lol) I’m working on my bit of credit card debt i have and pay it off at the end of the month so i don’t accrue interest. it’s a good way to build your credit without going into debt. it’s like using the credit card companies. showing them you “lend money” but then pay it off right away. i’m working on saving back up after spending more than i could after i was jobless and couldn’t file for unemployment. you can come back from debt, it’s just making decisions like “do i really need a new phone?” and saying no when you know you can’t afford it

Very dumb decision financially nothing was wrong with my phone, perfect condition! Semi related to a comment you made - I forget which movie it was, but I remember having buying it from iTunes only to have it removed from the iTunes Store and subsequently my library, contacting them to refund me and got told to go spin as I only bought the right to watch it. Now I buy then download movies from iTunes and rip the DRM from them. Bishes 😤.

For individuals who want the lateat phone evry year it makes sens to do the upgrade plan as its less money per year than buying the phone outright and also has the environmental advantage of recycling. People who do hand me down phones in the family, for them it doesnt make sense for them as you have to return the phone. In conclusion, if you can buy the phone outright but plan on keeping the phone for 3+ years then go for the plan as you can use remainder money to do other stuff. (Invest) If u can afford it dont get the phone at all. SIMPLES

My system is pay monthly with no interest and own it. Then when I upgrade, wife gets mine after software upgrade, now she has new phone, and get her a new case she likes. Her phone gets passed down to kids. Youngest is still using iPhone 5s. All phones still look new. ✌🏽

My current phone is paid off, so my phone bill dropped a good $25/mo. At&t has their trade in offer, which would put my new bill back where the old one was, but hey, new phone. Except they don't have the new phone. They won't have it for weeks. You know what, I don't think I need a new phone after all. At least not for a while.

I used my 6S+ (which I bought used off eBay & I still own!) for 3 years! From March 2016 to April 2019! I upgraded to a Xs Max on a new AT&T plan & I’m almost done paying for it. I did not want to trade in because I like to own what I pay for, I’m old fashioned like that. I’m not going to upgrade until next year when the iPhone 13 drops & that’s if I don’t change my mind and keep it longer.

@@techno_eclipse I can easily purchase the newest iPhone full price right now. But I’ve decided not to because my 8+ is working just fine and I’m very happy with it. They make money both ways selling you phone and then buying your old phone and selling it for more money. But at least they do not charge any interest for 24 months. I always pay the full price upfront and I never buy a locked phone. I keep my phone for at least four or five years. Till there is a significant change in technology.

You can no longer purchase the iPhone outright through the carrier. I tried buying an iPhone 13 from Best Buy in cash in full and they would not allow me to purchase the phone. They was the last straw for me. I bought an S22+ and didn't look back.

I just pre-ordered the 13 mini and I am paying in full. I am upgrading from an iPhone 8 with a cracked screen, full storage, failing battery, and overall slower performance. I love upgrading every four to five years because it seems like such a huge upgrade. I don't understand people that upgrade every year and then complain how there is not much of a difference between devices.

@@johnwilliamsoniii3936 I guess that’s true, but the fact is you are still paying the same amount. I could see if Apple was charging you some crazy APR. eventually it’s be nice to be at a level where you can buy everything in cash. It’s just not realistic for 90% of people. In that case, look for the 0 interest options on everything, and then budget yourself unmercifully.

@@bryanstephens8613 I see your point. But I think it’s the fact that you take the phone out on installments then you are working to pay for something that isn’t yours. When the next phone comes and someone decides they want it, then they set it up on another installment plan and the cycle continues.
