Mk11 had too many wake-up options. I hated always guessing whether my opponent was gonna roll, wake-up, delay wakeup, etc. Glad they’re taking steps in the right direction for this game.

Facts. The only real oki in that game on knockdown was when the defender had no defensive meter, and you still had to meaty correctly to account for delay wake-up, wakeup buttons, wake-up jump, and any of those two combined. So many KL scrubs about to get bodied because the wakeup system getting adjusted and the old meter gain 😂

@@AoIndigo wdym 3 🤡 There's U2,U3, forward roll, back roll, wakeup buttons, wakeup jump, delay wakeup, that's 7 wakeup options my guy. Wakeup buttons and wakeup jump technically aren't real or prob not intended but they work at any level of play because it's risky to meaty when you can either 1) whiff because they did a roll and get fully punished or 2) get counter hit by an U3 and lose your turn. Like I said the only real oki in this game is when the defender has no defensive meter. I love MK11 but this is one of its biggest problems, you must be trolling because thats goofy AF to say there's only 3 options.

You take the same amount of damage no matter what attack hits the kameo. Also if you get hit while your kameo is out you take slightly more damage. Also when you flawless block you build a bit of meter and prevent your opponent from building meter which will be another good way to counter zoning

I'm hyped for this game and i don't get why some people is calling trash or something,everything here is a huge improvement of MK11,even the Fatalitys are shorter and easy to make compared to 11. About the graphics they will probably polish the game more in the final release,the only thing i still don't like in MK1 is the fact the Fatal Blows still regenerate,besides that i'm liking everything else so far.

The only thing I would like to see implemented from Injustice is "Push Block". It resets neutral, costs resources so you can't abuse it excessively, and I think every fighting game needs to have a "proper get off me" mechanic like this.

I didn't even know about all of that. I just played it at a friend's place one day and found that it wasn't very fun compared to MK9 or MKX. The fatal blows, different meters; just didn't sit right with me, which was surprising as most professional reviews thought MK11 was the best MK yet. Now I've been playing MK11 Ultimate for myself and I completely agree with the reports. MK1 looks like a return to form though.

On your point about Meter Burn, as someone who just started playing MKX and MK11, the weirdest thing about MK11 was that i had to press the amp button AFTER. I play a ton of other fighting games and played X since i was enjoying Ermac a lot, and it just never made sense to me why i should get the choice to alter the move AFTER i threw it out. (TLDR i agree with you)

@@lunaro23 i want them to give it a martial arts like flow like MK usd to have. theres no natural flow to it, all characters regardless of size hit like heavy tanks then move light as a feather with weightless animations that look sped up and unatural...so the hard hits followed by jarring fast animations make it look like its running with awkward broken physics like MK11 and injustice.

@@underthemayo Absolutely fair, but MK11's throw game is whack even outside of KBs. The ones with some more involved requirements than "opponent pressed wrong button" were interesting. Burn X amount of meter, must be part of a kombo X hits long, whiff X part of the chain, the universal d2 and most others were positive additions. How some characters were either lacking KBs or every other action had one built in is a different topic again.

Same here. Me and friends started playing MK9 again over the past year. It's still the most fun modern MK game. I'll reserve judgment until I get to play this, but the pace looks kind of slow. SF6 looks much faster paced and more fun from what I've seen, but I guess we'll see. Even if its not good, I still have MK9!

I thought that the meter system in MK11 wasn't that bad, but now that I think about it... A recharging bar is going to make you more passive when its down instead of encouraging you to build it back up and also when you use 1 bar for both defense and offense you have to be a lot more strategic about it. Before the gameplay was revealed all i wanted was MK11 with more combo freedom, rebalanced mechanics and something to expand on a character's base abilities (something like the drive gauge frok sf6) and this game managed to check all those things so far

Mortal Kombat is back to being Mortal Kombat! I think using 3 bars to break away makes since since it seems you can get bar quicly in MK1 and I you had 3 bats and only needes 2 to breakaway you would quickly be able to breakaway once you get 1 bar of meter. Fatal blows again can only be done once per game, love it! We should get more news soon since the game is coming out soon

Interactables aren't a bad thing. It's the button that sucks. Flawless blocks had high enough skill level to work properly. It's the cost-benefit that's the problem. Hopefully MK1 FLAWLESS blocks are better and still viable

The only gripes i have been hearing across the board is dashing is too slow and kameo recovery can be too long, otherwise im so excited. Ive seen a nearby 40% damage combo with no meter and no kameo. This game is going to be nutty!

MK1 seems like it's a great return to form, and fixes most of the issues I had with 11. Sadly a game like X wil never happen again and the animations are still stiff, but the return of flawless block and entertaining combos is a big plus. Hopefully MK1 will bring players back.

As somebody who plays lots of anime fighters like Guilty Gear, the MK11 mechanics on wakeup always bothered me, as the one who knocked the other down you should be at advantage the plethora of wakeup options people had evened the playing field way too much don't get me wrong this was an issue in MKX as well but honestly the pace of that game made the armor make sense. MK11 tried to be a more honest fighter more akin to street fighter, focusing more on neutral and footsies a change that honestly bothered me cause my favorite part of MK is how scummy and broken things are, just look at MK9 Cyrax or Kabal but even so, if they want to be more honest, large amounts of wakeup options that go beyond even anime fighters doesn't follow that mindset. The flawless block mechanic is just another example of how MK11 gives too much favor to the defender, the one who SHOULD be in a bad position as the one who at some point, failed in neutral, the fact that you can just punish someone with a launcher makes no sense to me, even in anime fighters FB usually only removes chip and lowers pushback making only fairly specific things that'd normally be safe punishable. Also, While I do dislike the fatal blows returning and not requiring any resources, at least breakers have made a comeback, albeit I do think that they may want to lower the cost a bit, we don't know how quick meter build will be yet but 3 bars and assist seems like a lot. This game is actually making me cautiously optimistic for the game even despite the immediate annoying monetization through the shang tsung pre order bonus and the game immediately being marketed with the kombat pack despite no footage being out at that time. Hopefully the game will be closer to 9 and X in terms of speed and BS then I'll be happy.

My run as a tournament player was back in the MK9 and Injustice days (and as a Kenshi main your videos helped me a lot with optimizing him back in the day), and played a lot of MKX and streamed it, but INJ2 and MK11 both fell off really quickly for me. It wasn't just their gameplay problems they had, but also because something else came into my life in a big way at the time - Tekken 7. Since then I haven't really made an effort to get into NRS games again, and after playing so much SF6 over the past week and loving the hell out of it, NRS got a lot they'll need to do to convert me back over to playing their games a bunch like I used to. We'll see in a few months what 4 years of development on one of these looks like.

With Tekken 8 on a horizon, more SF6 content coming and even other smaller releases such as Granblue fantasy versus rising, NRS must make a miracle to make me play any of their games again. Both of injustice and MK11 were super boring and unfun to play after you spent a week or 2 doing it. Also i hate almost complete lack of stick support, you know that thing that many fighting game enthusiasts are playing on. You can still random each other out with fatal blows, but if since there's a super flash you can block it if you're not doing anything already in that moment. As a casual player, you'll have access to less damage since there's no krushing blows that tack on tons of damage for you. You'll have to learn some high damage juggles that include cameo assists. So that'll be a bit more difficult.

I think the punish on throws will come from the fact that kombo damage is going to be high. Micro-duck into kombos is what most the pros do against throws in MK11 as is, more often than the D2 KB.

Lol people might have to commit to meter burning specials, but now they can use kameos after punishable specials which will basically fulfill the same role.

Maybe you didn't hear the video, but no, you can't call a kameo during a special animation only before. You can't do a special that's blocked and then call a kameo to cover you. It has to be called in anticipation, which the opponent can see because the kameo has to run on screen first. That's quite different.

@@underthemayo I guess a bit different, but you can still just use kameos in anticipation to cover your ass and they aren’t on that long of cooldowns at all. People just gonna be random teleporting the whole game with a kameo follow-up every time.

I feel like the regenerating meter was the major issue. Most of these problem i feel would not be bad if meter did not regenerate. Thus you would only have to deal with it once or twice in a set. Having to deal with it four or five time on a set makes it irritating

I can see it now because I’ve never seen this amount of constructive criticism before a Mortal Kombat game came out, but this game will be heavily loved by the hard-core Mortal Kombat, one fans and heavily scrutinized and rightfully criticized by anybody that is not in that category a.k.a. your average Mortal Kombat fan or your average video game fan. Ed Boon himself is already came out and said this is a game for the complex hard-core fans of Mortal Kombat so with that being said, what is the Incentive for the normal fan or the guys who bought MK 11 that weren’t an absolute pro at the game to buy this one that starts pre-orders at $70 for the standard addition and anything above that we are now talking $110 at least? There is no incentives there is no reason to buy the game you will get shitted on an online gameplay. This game will be as far as in an actual video game perspective and that the hard-core fan to plug it up and played every day. This game will be dead less than one year after release.

I agreed with just about everything until you said throws were good in MK11. Even if your character had KB people can just duck OS throws, so there wasn’t even a point to trying to tech. Trying to throw in Mk11 resulted in getting D2 KBed or full combo punished every single time, I guarantee it. Grabs actually look stronger in Mk1 because you can set up more complex pressure and use Kameos.

If I were full on content creation I would. But it's 40 hours a week of work to get videos out regularly. Makes it hard to commit to more than maybe one game a year on a deeper level.

Looks like injustice after what I've seen. Mk11 consumables in injustice re-skined as mk1. Imo they should've just made tag instead like mk9. Creating tower assist "the game" is not what im interested in. But im willing to try it

Call me a scrub, but the only reason I liked the meter burn system in MK11 was that it made it easier to actually do an enhanced special. In MKX, I found the timings for enhancing specials so tight that I just couldn’t get into it

Agreed, disliked the cheap ones; but really enjoyed the difficult requirement krushing blows that felt earned. Rather have krushing blows than fatals.

THe one thing I don't like about combo breakers and the new MK's is that I think too much emphasis is on combos. Combos shouldn't be the only strategy to winning in a fighting game.

Combos have never been the only strategy to win in any fighting game but you can't downplay their importance. High damage combos win matches all the time but they've never been the only tool.

A legitimate problem I seebare rookie players obsessing and over emphasizing combos they can't pull off then quitting or getting frustrated. But they're new to the game and don't have the bare bones mechanics down yet. 3 hit combos go a long way lmao

Yeah it's been a good year. System Shock didn't do it for me but I get why others liked it. Anf we can't forget Atomic Heart. Other than that, it's mostly been a series of fun titles.

The only thing to miss is the interactive environment as to some degree you could interact with other things in other MK like 3 or 4 (impale after a fatality someone on the spikes below etc), which means would be still ok to have a thing to hit opponent with using the arena and it made them a little bit more unique. Other than that it's a huge step up. Would be good if the Fatal Blow was also somehow balanced for the good play instead of free out of the jail card

I am really sad about the injustice things being removed as it was a nice evolution of the stage hazards in the 3d era like with Armageddon but oh well. I guess that's reason to come back to mk11

Stage interactables, plus on block low pokes, and especially the meter burn mechanic are way more integral to the injustice experience. And both mk and injustice had supers. Mk9 had supers.

I see a whole bunch of y’all talking about they’ve made these changes to the mechanics for it to be better competitively first off nobody complain about anything competitively when it came to Mortal Kombat tournaments besides the fact in the last iteration, you had a chance to get an additional 33% damage on top of whatever you did previously whenever you are at low health with the fatal blow system, the fatal blow system can honestly be one of the only things considered wrong with Mortal Kombat 11 and it continue to get worse when they came out with MK one nobody was asking for this game to become better competitive wise if anything we were all sitting your ass back, watching some of the combos and move they would pull off and question how so now they’ve added even more stuff on top of that I’m telling you right now. This game will get scrutinize about five months after release because everybody’s getting their ass whooped, and not even on the ground in online gameplay.

It's amazing how the MK Kommunity wanted to pretend MK 11's mechanics were fine and people who criticized it were just bad, and then turned around and acted confused when no name fighters had better turnouts at major tournaments.
