Even cinder blocks will fail. You need to use actual retaining wall blocks to tie everything back and at that it shouldn’t be more than 4’ tall without actual engineering.
@DirtyD07Сағат бұрын
Grouted CMUs with even a couple of bars of steel would be more than efficient and effective
@robl407923 минут бұрын
@@DirtyD07 not at a height of 6+feet. Yes it will last longer, but won’t be a permanent fix, it will slowly lean forward further and further until it tips over like in the video. Especially a straight wall, curved will help. You need a wall that pushes back against the dirt and holds it in place. There is a crapton of weight in dirt and no matter what, a straight vertical wall will always tip over unless there is something like earth anchors installed deep in the hill. However the most economical solution is, like I said earlier, retaining wall, properly sized, and great drainage.
@DirtyD0711 минут бұрын
@ you can still use CMU and build a footer foundation to help resist the overturning. Cast in place concrete would definitely be preferred because it's a solid element.

@idiotsavant7276Сағат бұрын
Yeah…. You don’t build retaining walls out of hollow cement block, they always separate, tip and fail. Wedge shape concrete poured walls with a foot on the back side is pretty much the only way to do it and not do it again.

For the one at 11:05 you should try cleaning the dirt away from the rock to allow the water to flow across the top of the rock. The dirt on top of the "waterfall" area is probably damming up the flow, which is allowing some water and dirt to collect there. If it's a smooth path off rock all the way to the waterfall, then it shouldn't get as wet or muddy except when it is actually raining.

A quick solution may be to just clean up the loose gravel/rock, put forms around the existing wall, and just pour over all of it with concrete, for a nice concrete wall, using the existing material as additional internal structure. No demolition cost, no material disposal cost (mostly), just the cost of the concrete, and you may not need as much as you would from scratch. 🤔 It'll be structurally sound enough, more than this wall was, that's for sure.
