Van life has never scared me before but I've never been so scared for my safety as I was this week. Through the stormy days we do all things baking, books and cleaning (my favorite things!) hehe❤️🙏🏼

We used to keep an old blanket, rolled up, and if there was hail like that, we would throw the blanket over to the solar panels. It saved our solar panels many of times. 🦋

hi Julia, during a thunderstorm the safest place to be is inside a car, if thunder hit the vehicle nothing would happen, energy would dissipate to the land, the car would just be an energy driver. I hope you understood, I don't speak English, be safe 😘

Another great video, Julia. I've often wondered about vans (i.e. tincans) in a lightning storm. I feel better actually that you were more terrified by the hail than getting struck. Also, I have to ask a rhetorical question-Maui will be flying with you back East, yes?

Yes! So if lightening DID strike the van, the electrical system would be toast & it wouldn't run anymore but Maui & I would still be alive as long as we don't touch the metal! Since it's build out inside, there's not much exposed metal. & Yes he will be flying with me! It will be a very interesting experience😅

We are in an El Neno weather phase. We will be having crazy weather all over for a while. ... There are more and more food shortages by the day, and it is expected to get MUCH worse. Even water shortages. It is of utmost importance to stay stocked up as much as you can and not run so low on food or water. Stash food everywhere you can find in those vans. Freeze dried foods are light weight, store a lot in a small space, and don't need refrigeration. One van lifer the other day said she managed to get a 6 month food supply stashed in hers. Get a water filter, even if it is just a Life Straw. Can use when you can't get water. Get prepared. Don't regret.

@JuliaBrooke You are welcome. I just saw awhile ago that the West coast is shutdown from shipping produce, groceries and stuff. From California up through Washington. Big strike plus bad weather. Showed a picture of semis full of rotting produce lined up and just sitting there refusing to move. So sad. Have a good upcoming week! Both of you.

I could sense your stressed-out emotions at the hailstorm, and I kept talking to you (like you could hear me) 😬 I kept saying, "Calm down girl, it's gonna be ok, just a little thunder and hail. Maui, tell your mom to calm down." You did the right thing by cranking up the music and drowning out the sounds of the storm. 🔉 Just remember to calm down... calm down. Hey I have another suggestion, if you add a grat above the solar panel to protect it, will it affect it from absorption of the sunshine? If not, it will protect from hail in the future. You just need to find someone to help you install it, someone that knows welding. Just a suggestion.

Your banana bread actually seemed like it was gonna be good even before you tried it, I thought the oatmeal was a good addition. Try Bisquick rather than flour. It is much more versatile and I can use it for, literally, any recipe I might dream up while traveling/camping. There are tons of recipes online as well. Glad you both survived the storm, thank you for sharing ❤

I was wondering about solar panels with bad weather. I wouldn't have them. I can't even go travel in my newer jeep yet because I don't want hail damage although the top can't get damage and it's a 2 door so not much to damage 😂

I recommend a barbecue lighter. They're long and slim, u just light it and hold it against that long part that u want to light up then turn on the gas. Gas Ignitions are finicky as heck.

I'm about to start traveling in my van soon. I thought alot about what I'd do in a hail storm. If I was in a town, I think I'd look for a car wash and park in it to ride out the storm. I know that wouldn't work in your situation, because you're far from town. But maybe an idea if it ever happens again, and you're close to town.
