80’s music. Can’t beat it. Glad I grew up then
@TheClassicWorld3 жыл бұрын
Still upset I didn't. I was born in the 1990s, which makes me a 2000s kid. Thankfully, though, I have an older mother and brothers, so I grew up on 1960 to 1990s in terms of music, film, and so on. Glad of that. Honestly, you cannot beat the 1990s. I think it's overlooked for being 'dark', more so by the Americans and 1980s types, but it's way more than just 'dark' and has some very 'bright' things going on -- just as there is quite a number of 'dark' songs and films, etc. from the 1980s, as well. Both those decades were the height of entertainment, I think. Having said that, I love early-2000s video games and The Lord of the Rings films, among others. 1960s and 1970s are great, along with some 1950s' Hitchcock and such, but not as good, I feel. I'll just take 1980 to 2007 and be done with it. Again, worth not overlooking 1954 to 1979, more so 1968 to 1979 in terms of sci-fi, films horror films, novels, and rock music, but I do think the 1960s and 1970s was far too hippie and dominated by socialists in the US. 1970s' British music is good, though. I actually don't have much of a problem with history, to be honest, I just have a problem with 2008-2021, more so 2012-2021. So downhill it's shocking, and that is seen also in music. I don't like music after about 2004 other than a few songs, but mostly pre-1992 (Queen).

@neilgodfrey65783 жыл бұрын
The punk scene was much more a reaction to the older prog rock and metal bands and that general over blown self indulgent 70's rock.....not disco, they didn't take disco seriously enough to react against it, this was not a reaction against punk at all, they considered it a progression.

The music genre isn't "disco," it's actually called "synthpop" or "synthwave" (due to heavy use of synthesizers for melodies). It's in the same genre as "Take On Me" by A-Ha. Synthpop gained popularity in the 80s, particularly in Europe -- probably because the pioneers of synthesized music - Kraftwerk - were based in Germany and were producing 100% synthesized techno music in the 70s -- decades before it became commonplace in clubs.

If you guys like A Flock of Seagulls, "Wishing", and "Space Age Love Song" are classics. Also, that "piano" Mike Score is pressing hard on is a Roland SH-09 synthesizer. Technically, it was done on a Moog MS-20 and Korg Delta synthesizer in the studio, but the song was just synced with the video, so Mike used what he had on hand for the filming of the music video, and apparently the small budget they had for it was blown on tinfoil, which they covered the set in... I recommend looking them up, lots of interesting stories from them. ALSO, to be clear, I'm not giving you a hard time because you said "piano", it's pretty common nowadays for synthesizers to go unnoticed with them being so commonplace, they're underappreciated for what they do. That wasn't the case back when this song was made, they were interesting and new. I feel people who react to older music now, this is very evident. But music like AFOS is one big history lesson pretty much.

That’s actually the guitar you’re referring to, not the synth. Paul Reynolds used a device called an Ebow. It’s a small handheld device you place it on the guitar strings & the vibration from it makes the guitar sound like a synth. Big Country also used the Ebow to make their guitars sound like bagpipes.

Flock of Seagulls opened up for *The Police* on their _Synchronicity_ tour. I know about opening bands being picked to make the headliners sound better , but The Police really didn't need that. Not sure why they were on the bill. Try a band like Television , The Pixies , Talk Talk , or The Cars first album . The whole album is actually quite good. edited . Here's some bands that didn't have that one hit , but influenced sound. *Spit Enz* , some good stuff there . Way before their time . When Lindsey was ousted from Fleetwood Mac , for not wanting to play some of Fleetwood's early library , they chose Neil Finn , one of the brothers from Slit Enz for their tour. *Yaz's* or Yazoo, album _Upstair's At Eric's_ was very good . Vince Clark , who worked on Depche Mode's Speak&Spell , along with Alison Moyet , came up with a very good synth pop album. *The Fixx's* _Reach The Beach_ had some good choice cuts on it . *Level 42* had a one hit , but the album from their hit _There's Something About You_ was good . They also have a video that you might like. *Squeeze* had some very choice cuts . Try their _Singles_ I'm trying to think of music that had videos that would correlate for your channel, but also had good albums with some choice songs. OK, *Joe Jackson* . His first album was very different , along with latter works that produced good videos with great songs. Try *Joe Jackson's* song _Stepping Out_ off of Night & Day . Look Sharp was another good album. There's also *Elvis Costello's* first album, and certainly look through his work to find a video of his latter work that might help your channel. These are a few bands that influenced music , but also had good albums. Here's a good song and an ok video that I think you might like. *Peter Murphy's* _Cut's You Up_ I'm gonna sub and bell ya. Hope you get a chance to check some of these bands and performers.
