Maybe the true health story of Rens lymes disease misdiagnosing x 10 yrs and getting mental issues and auto immune problems he is still dealing with and probably will for life is too heavy for him. We get that. But to know the origin is so important to Rens music. That's all. No hating.

@@mstewart109 I respectfully disagree. Knowledge of Ren's history is not important, or required to either appreciate or reject any song in his catalogue. Back On 74 was originally done by Jungle in 2023 and Message In A Bottle was originally done by The Police in 1979. The rapping was all Ren's lyrics and the arrangements of this retake are his. @@_jdus Find the video with Ren wearing the red suspenders busking in Brighton. It's been on my playlist for the past two summers. It's excellent and I'm a huge Bob Marley fan. Many in America (I'm Canadian) don't seem too familiar with busking which is basically a street performance we call in UK and their commonwealth countries. That's where Ren started. He blew up with Hi Ren. Ren sings and raps about mental health and so for me, totally relatable with doctors misdiagnosing me for decades until recently. I appreciate the talent and vulnerability he brings. His music has brought me healing knowing I'm not alone. He understands that many people are suffering like him, staying inside while they silently fight physical and mental trauma. From that perspective, you may see Hi Ren differently. That video has helped with my healing bc it always felt like an uphill battle, when in fact it has been more of a pendulum swinging from the dark to the light. He's lived it, so he gets it more than most. I cannot tell you how important that song is for me, as well as Sick Boi. Great reaction. I appreciate your honesty. Keep that shit up. "Hi Ren" turned me onto Ren, but to each his own. I haven't watched your reaction to that song, but props for being real. It's a long one & possibly not your style of music, but you MUST react to "Tale of Jenny & Screech"... it's one of the greatest story-telling songs of all time, IMO. I love Ren, but not every song. I'm pretty sure you'll find some you like & some you don't. One more suggestion is Genesis; both the original & acoustic version.

I think with Hi Ren, it resonates more with people who have had those doubts within themselves and have been through similar struggles. Some people are lucky enough to have never felt that way. Keep going, you'll be a convert before you know it 🙃

OMG, I love this reaction 💯🔥 BP, it's amazing to think you're experiencing this now in this day and age, and having the privilege to see your reaction, just great 🔥 And when the Johnny Rotten penny dropped, classic 😊. You have to remember this was late 70s in a very conservative time, so much to catch up with and sure you'll love it. John Lydon is an absolute riotus gem, always tells it how it is. He lives in America. If you get chance to go see his talk show, do it 👌. I can't believe your boi Don hasn't taken you down the real punk rock road before and of course never forget, punk rock originated in the UK 😉🇬🇧 just to open that can of worms for you. 😂

You are right about Ren being very culturally responsible in his music, cultural issues, take front and center, but the band that he was in, the big push, was much lighter and more fun

Listen to Girls! It's one of Ren's lesser known songs and I love it because it's a fun little rock song he made. Probably my favorite song by him. There is also Fire, Run Away, and Street lights. Those are all more singing songs. I'll be excited to see you listen to them!

I actually hate it when people start with Hi Ren, because it's a very specific style that absolutely doesn't appeal to everyone. Speaking as a Ren FANATIC, I loved it the first time I heard it, but I honestly don't think it's his best song. His most important one, his most personal one, but not necessarily his best. I am so glad you went right to Back on 74, so you could see something wildly different that highlights a completely other side of his talent. And there are so, so, so many sides to it and so, so, so many styles he excels at. Glad you're on the Ren train, now, and I've subscribed to watch you discover more of his music and others'. Thanks! (And it is so worthwhile to check out the original Message in a Bottle, a classic song from a classic band -- delve into the Police's catalog and you'll find some of the best music ever!)

Just posted this on another one and if you do watch more videos of Ren think it is probably worth posting it here as well. Do yourself a favour and DON'T WATCH "kujo beatdown" until you've completed the prerequisites below (if you continue with Ren) otherwise it won't make any sense and you'll miss a lot of stuff in it, watch other stuff first and save it. You can never repeat a "first watch" of something and it is worth the time for this one as it changes it completely. The song currently has 2.4 million views in a month :O so worth reacting to (when you know what it is about). * I'd highly recommend the following a) you have watched Ren's 30 minute video on the situation or understand the story to the point where know what happened,. ie when you can also answer how his gf was involved and where the choir comes into it. Watch if offline if you like (or react to it) but worth watching anyway. b) You have also seen "Hi Ren", "Money Game" and of course the main subject of it "Sick Boi" (based on his own medical experiences and title track of his no.1 album which is why it was so important to him) I 'know you've already watched some of these but I've left the rest for anyone reading that hasn't. "kujo beatdown" has a lot of references (lyrics, acting, scenes) that which you will miss if not having watched them before it, and without the backstory it will be completely confusing (you could say it is a reaction video itself, but without much of the original story) Don't ever apologise for what you like, we all have different tastes, music is art and art is in the eye of the beholder as they sat.

I'm happy you don't connect to Hi Ren it means you haven't experienced the challenges he sings about. It means you don't have that same damage. That said you want to hear him with his band check out THE BIG PUSH they are incredible with harmonies and they rock some pretty great covers. Trust me Ren has a deep catalog that you can find many you'll catch yourself sing a few days later. Keep checking out his music!

"Hi Ren" is uncomfortable for many people the first time around, especially if they know nothing about him. Like you, "Back on 74/Message in the bottle" and "Chalk Outlines" were among the next songs I explored after Hi Ren. It took me a few listens to his rap performances before I became accustomed to his accent.

His performance pieces are not really for playlists they are more to make you think.
@67goat22 күн бұрын
Some of Ren's songs, like Hi Ren, the Tales, etc... are more performance pieces than they are music. For some people, watching once is enough, others want to watch it over and over. But I don't know many fans that just listen to those songs on a music playlist (I'm sure there are some). That is the one thing I would say about his videos. Most are just music videos, many songs can be listened to without the video all. But there are some that are really stage craft in the form of a video. Those should be judged through a different lens than normal music, because they aren't normal music.
