My great grand father, on my Dad's side, immigrated to Guyana from Scotland, I guess around that time. He was a reverend of a church in Berbice. My mom's side is Portuguese, and my mom's side goes back for generations. Before Guyana, they came from Madeira, which is an island off the coast of Morocco.

@@leleandcrew Scotland, yes. Madeira, no. My ancestors were indentured laborers, but their information was all burned in a huge fire in GT, back in the day. My sister and I have been trying to find information of Granny's side, but it's impossible. What we do know is that Granny had a Moorish uncle in Guyana when she was alive. We have some names of some family members, but we aren't too sure if its correct. We need to go to Madeira to do some searching.

Hey girl. What a beautiful video and a beautiful woman. You have great results. And by the way, a lot of the Africans who were enslaved were taken through Ghana or migrated there. Because of history and school, a lot of Guyanese believe they are Ghanaian but probably just passed by. However, your Ghana suspicion was right-not wrong. The Togo and Ghana share a border. So sometimes they’re even lumped together. For this reason, when I research for people, I add those two particularly together because they shared many tribal groups. So that region for you is roughly 50% in actuality. If you took a tribal test, you’d see all the mix would actually settle down. This is because DNA samples were taken from people for in these places at the time. The big database makes it the most accurate though. And as u said, the results to become even more accurate / “settle” as more people test. But you could technically check in 10 years and it be almost completely different if the database doubled. Peace and love x

Another thing with the African DNA and where its originally from is that even if you know where the specific ship came from that brought your ancestors over that doesn't necessarily mean that they were from there. Most of the slaves sold to Europeans were sold after one kingdom attacked another and kidnapped their people. So if your ancestors were bought from a Kingdom in Ghana they were most likely actually from a neighboring kingdom, not that one.

As you said a huge chunk of Ghanaians have a significant percentage of their DNA represented as Benin/Togo. As a matter of fact my Aunt has a significant percentage of her DNA as being Benin Togo, however we cannot trace any ancestors from there. As such, i am very certain the contemporary African country you are most closely related to is Ghana. I am 100% Ghanaian to the best of my knowledge and i would share my results with you when it comes out hopefully in 5 weeks time. Cheers

Benin/Togo and the Eastern part of Ghana called the Volta Region are a very beautiful people. They just don't make noise so a lot of people dont know them. They have the most beautiful cultures-foods, language, dressing and behavior. They are the most deciplined and spiritual in the region. Great video here, I will have to say that although Ancestry DNA has gotten better over the years when it comes to Sub- Saharan African Ancestry it is still not great, and especially wasn’t back then. Main reason being is that it gives off the names of modern day countries which we all know were drawn up by European powers and don’t accurately reflect the vast diversity of African tribes that exist today. Take for example Nigeria has over 250 distinct ethnic groups, so getting a DNA result saying your part Nigerian is a bit misleading to say the very least. Of course since the large majority of these people taking these tests are of European origin; they’re gonna be much better with breaking that ancestry down in further detail. However for those of African Ancestry, my personal recommendation would be to absolutely to take the African Ancestry Test as well Living DNA. Living DNA gives a greater breakdown based on actual tribe names and African Ancestry can tell you exactly where your paternal and maternal origins lie in mother Africa. Pretty cool stuff if you ask me (saying as a white person lmao!$

It’s seems all Caribbean people have Benin Togo and Nigeria (Benin/Togo and Nigeria are all next to one another and were not made into individual countries until colonialism. So no surprise to see Nigeria and Benin/Togo. Unfortunately its not the safest place to visit.

It is true that the Benin-Togo coast was referred to as the slave coast because more slaves were taken from there than any other coast. Ghana's coast was the gold coast because they got more gold there than anywhere else. It's however not true that Benin- Togo places are unsafe. Human beings live in these places comfortably. Unless you have a personal experience to the contrary, If not, then you should be ashamed for dwelling on heresays and tarnishing some people you really dont know. It is also true that crime rates in Benin and Togo are really low and the people are hospitable.

The regions are areas your ancestors originate from based on modern borders and nations. I think it's a misleading to say I am this or that. It's a misconception that many people don't understand. You are 100% where ever you were born at but this signifies which areas your ancestors recently migrated from. Not an identity.
@leleandcrew
@leleandcrew Жыл бұрын
I disagree. I am not genetically 100% “ where ever you were born at”. Let’s not confuse race, nationality and ethnicity.I was born in a country built on indentured servants and slaves. The only people originally from Guyana are Amerindians. I can look at my African, Indian, European, Amerindian etc ancestors and see that physically they differ. Some know their history about the nations their parents or grandparents originated from. I will celebrate all of my ancestors. So, I am everything that I said I am. Peace to you.☺️

No surprise with the European results... Guyana used to be a British colony, so some mixing between the masters/supervisors/indented servants and the slaves would occur, even if that would be frowned upon. Some of the British colonists were Scottish and Irish, and some of the Scottish and Irish (specially the Scottish from the Hebrides, Shetland, Orkney) have remote Norwegian ancestry, going back to Viking age. It all makes sense. It's more surprising that your Native American ancestry is Andean than Caribbean.
@leleandcrew

When considering the “ Andean culture area” and migration patterns it made sense to me.I never learned about the Irish, Scottish etc as a child so that was a surprise. Either way it’s interesting reading comments, learning more history and hearing from others.☺️
