As you probably know, but it may help others, you can refill/change the jacking fluid on most floor jacks of that style. There's just basically a bottle jack in there with a plug on top. You can also rebuild it if it's worth it to you.

Hey Cody, I've been watching the last few days and I've noticed on radio, KZbin and other media that the battle is here and the battle is now. I do believe the message is in front of those who would hear it. Thank you for sharing the courage of your convictions, thank you for sharing the rawness of your life and your ability to see blessings even in dark hours. Living your life in front of everyone has to be hard. Thanks for sharing as much as you do. You help, even through your pain, and that spreads the blessing your father was to you, even in his passing, to those with whom you have shared it. "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

Cody...firstly, my condolences on your Father's passing. I would have commented on your previous video, but it brought back many memories of losing my Father. We lost him when I was 28. He was 66 (I'm 57 now and not a day goes by that I or my 8 siblings don't think about him). He was the anchor of our family, much like your grandfather. He was a Christian, a teacher, a coach, and so much more! He touched many lives in his 39 years of teaching and coaching and many more in our church! I pray for peace for you, and your family in this time, but know that you will see him again on high! Thank you for all the great videos! You've taught us all a lot about being a man and also how to live a respectable life in these trying times! May God bless you and your family!

If you ever find your holes in the jacks are just a bit off from ideal, you can always drill new holes on the other side of the jack that land between the old holes (if that makes any sense). Once this is done, you can remove the jack, spin it 90 degrees, reinsert and you've got a whole new set of differently located holes.
@ShopStuff0416
@ShopStuff0416 3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking the same thing...but instead of taking them out and spinning them, just drill another pair of holes in the tubing on the trailer to match the new holes on the other side...then you'll have 1.5" adjustability on the fly.

Something to think about with pin choice for the jacks; when unloading, the weight of the machine will rest solely on the pins holding the jack in place, its hard to tell the size of the pin from the video, but you may want heaver duty pins…one professional homeowner’s thoughts to another of course.

The two piece handle comes in handy when there is a clearance issue. Maybe the car/item you are lifting is next to another vehicle. With the long handle, you are limited to where you can use the jack. But by removing half of the handle length, you can get into a tight spot.

If you ever read this: To keep your part from rusting for ever and ever and ever, use cosmoline. Shoot cosmoline on the inside of the square tubing with a drain hole. Paint the outside so you can touch it and stay clean. Cosmoline is the stuff THEY dont want us to know about.

What is it? Where do you get it? And why use it instead of something like wd40 or used engine oil etc.. Also it sounds like something toxic. I have a small ranch and stuff gets muddy and full of cow manure and gets really rusty. But I try to stay away from harsh chemicals and sprays. I do use them, but I just do so sparingly. Thanks for any information.

@@danielalamo2075 Soviets used to wrap war rifles in waxed paper and the rifle was soaked in something that looked just like vaseline but it was the cosmoline. You could leave such riffle in the rain for ever and it would never rust unless you remove that stuff. Today they have the recipe and make product like the US made RP342 which can be sprayed and is able to fully protect the undercariage of a 1988 Ford Tempo in the rust belt. I usually thin it with mineral spirits for spraying with their recommended sprayer that has vitton seals. It sticks to metal so much that you cant remove it with power washer, yet it stays semi-soft. I found this because I was searching for such a stuff for my 1979 Datsun and bought a 1930's SKS rifle that was impossible to clean and the research on why that stuff was impossible to remove lead me to RP342. The rifle was new old stock. You could swear its been manufactured tomorrow. If you already have thick rust, use a needle scaler so the stuff can stick to real metal.

I’d recommend a hole in the center of the foot pads on those stab jacks. Inevitably you’ll end up with water & junk collecting in the square tube columns, which will pile up in the bottom, making them heavier and heavier, but also helping rust them out from the inside. So a 1/2” drain hole will provide a way for rain water to drain out, as well as any junk that gets in there.

I was an industrial machinist in Canada for over 30 years. Our best measuring tools from 1" to 6' inside and outside were all made by STARRETT. Not sure how long they were in our shop. They were were there when I started my apprenticeship in the early 70's and still working fine when I retired 8 years ago. Used by about 30 different tradesmen over their lifetime. Still accurate.

That dead blow Snap-on hammer is awesome! I have one and used it for many years as a aircraft mechanic! When you are a professional homeowner or a professional aircraft mechanic quality Snap-on tools are the way to go!

Thank you for sharing your father with us there at the end. The way he lent himself to the building of the deck was as a master craftsman. Although he could not physically do the work himself anymore, his mind was sharp and exceptional expertise shined through.

I use an old mag drill center pin thingy as a center punch. Works great. Hardened steel and works great. Rarely have to sharpen it. Bought one in stores and it was garbage. Got the one I'm using now from the tool crib at the old fab shop I worked at.

I just watched your old video about forest stewardship. I particularly enjoyed the portion about distinguishing some of the various coniferous trees found here in the pnw! I’d really like a wranglerstar video on this topic. I searched this topic on KZbin and options are plentiful, but it’s not wranglerstar! Thanks for all you do!

You have some nice tools. I love everything Starrett. Starrett makes two versions of your center punches. They are ground with different tip angles. The square version doesn't roll off the bench, but is sharper and is what I call a prick punch. The round body is what I call a center punch. The prick punch is easier to damage and is intended for simply locating the prick accurately. The center punch is intended for striking with more force and creating a deeper divot. Unfortunately I didn't understand Starrett's design difference until I redressed some of my punches by hand and lost the tip design function. Now knowing the difference, I no longer heavy strike the square body punches. I own at least 100 quality punches, but Starrett are my favorite and most common brand. Snap-On does a pretty fair job as well and they are my second favorite choice. Starrett sets their cylindrical hardened pin punches in softer knurled "handles". Snap-On changes the hardness of their punches over the length of a contiguous tool. I prefer Starrett's design, but both designs are good. Starrett is prettier. Snap-On did a good job on their dead blow ball peen hammers and soft face mallets. I own virtually every style and quite a few duplicates. I started using their brass or bronze faced dead blow 20 years ago, and now I never strike my punches with a steel hammer. The softer faced hammer doesn't mushroom the soft hammer face of my punches and has reduced the need to redress the mushroomed face in the lathe or on the belt sander. Snap-On dead blow hammers are my favorite brand, and if you watch for sale pricing, you can purchase them for less than inferior quality dead blow hammers. They also have a smaller head relative to weight than competitors, which is a design function that I value. There are tasks where I still value the function of traditional hammer design, so I keep ample traditional hammers in my tool chests. I find that I grab dead blow hammers and mallets for most tasks far more frequently, except carpentry tasks.

L.S. Starrett makes excellent quality tooling. I still have mics and various other machinist related tools from before I left the trade 25 yrs ago. Good job with the stand. Those mag drill presses are awesome. I wondered though, if a list was made from the years past of tools every professional homeowner should have .... How big would that list be? Haha Bless you sir and your family.

Is it possible to have a video on all the tools your neighbor Henry gave to you? I always enjoy seeing the old styles of tools and the tools that aren’t in use anymore, I also love the background behind the tools, and the story that Henry always has. I always get a good laugh out of it, thanks.

I have no use for quality centre punches (I'm a chef by trade) but I understand the joy of working with quality tools and equipment. I don't live on a homestead and never will but I watch every vid you post. I don't share your faith but I do appreciate the things I have learned from you about being a (better) man. Please know that you (and your family) have my respect, best wishes and prayers.

Just a thought Cody... Maybe drill a series of evenly spaced holes like a jack stand? Would give you adjustment capabilities on the fly for any future unforeseen circumstances. Or not... Starrett is the best! I cherish my dial caliper and series of micrometers, punches, angles and scales! My grandpa had all kinds of Starrett tools. I now own these treasures. Many were made in the 1920's and 1930's. He was an awesome grandpa and a gifted instrument and toolmaker. I certainly caught the bug from him. I enjoy wiping/oiling them down while remembering him and reliving our times in the shop togather. My heart goes out to you Brother. I pray the good Lord continues to bless you and your wonderful family. Stay strong man!

The mag-drill bits are called Annular Cutters. Make sure you get a 1/2" diameter pin for those, you don't want to skimp and have a pin shear when unloading a piece of equipment. Also, as a slight improvement, you could cut off a few inches off the top and move the bottom hole down so you get the jack up higher when it's retracted, but still doesn't come up over the edge of the trailer. Looks good Cody!
