Valentino's behaviour is apparently based on an abusive ex Vivzie the show writer had. I don't know if he ever pimped her out but abusers are really good at seeming nice and reasonable at first before you're too hooked in financially or safety-wise to leave, and this is actually a sadly common situation IRL. It's called Romeo pimping - give the victim expensive stuff and nice words and apparent acceptance (in life Angel was a gay guy in the Mafia, you can imagine that wasn't great for him), then slowly increase the demands of what they have to give you in return.

Charlie is kind and soft because that’s just her personality. She takes after one of her parents in a lot of ways, you’ll see in episode 5 which parent she takes after the most. Keep in mind though she lived a more privileged lifestyle than other sinners and demons since she is the princess of hell, so she didn’t have to struggle in life the same way the others did. Charlie is also part angel, not a full blooded demon, so that contributes more towards her kind personality. You’ll understand it better in episode 5.

The sweet girl has never been involved in an abusive relationship like Angel Dust's situation, so she had no idea what warning signs to notice until it was too late, and unintentionally caused more trouble for him. Most of the stuff she knows about hell is knowledge passed down from her parents, but knowledge doesn't equal the same as first hand experience.

Angel signed the deal for his soul for the same reason people in real life get into abusive relationships, he was desperate and vulnerable and Val manipulated him and made him believe he actually cared about him and wanted to help. To give Angel credit, he must be a damn good negotiator because he has far more freedom and control in his deal than any other person we've seen who had to sell their soul for survival. Also Charlie's parents sheltered her a LOT. Barely any of the sinners had even seen their princess before Charlie opened her hotel. She was a child born of two gentle people who honestly loved her and each other before their marriage eventually fell apart and both gave up on humanity. Lilith and Lucifer didn't do what they did in the Garden out of maliciousness but because they thought humans deserved free will. They never expected it would go so wrong. The version of the story everyone is familiar with that mostly omitted Lilith and painted Lucifer as evil and malicious was just like all history written by the victors; biased propaganda.

Supposedly Angel, Anthony, was a Mob Bosses son and had aspirations to be a star, movie or stage or whatever. HE was also gay and during that time, the 1950s that was a big thing you had to hide. So supposedly when Anthony overdossed and ended up in hell he was attracted to Valentino cause Val could offer everything Anthony had ever wanted, fame and to express his true self. Also as others have noted there was possibly a romantic connection at first, as in Val actually was attracted to Angel. But once Angel signed the contract and Val made him do more and more depraved shit against his will Angel grew to regret that decission. Hence the line "The worse part of this hell is I can only blame myself". No one, not even Val, forced Angel to sign the contract, that was all of Angels own free will.

When you think about why Angel signed that contract the song poison and loser baby kind of gives you a good look into psyche. Imagine you just got there. You have a pension for drugs and overwhelming promiscuity that probably was not well liked when you were alive and now you’re in a place where you can fully express yourself and your biggest problem being your broke.
