It's all just demon magic, like how valentinos wings somehow form sleeves on his arms, or how velvette wears skin tight clothes but pulled out a severed head bigger than her torso.

Fun fact husk pupils dilate for a second almost everytime he looks at Angel in the future episodes. Similar to what actual cats so when happy/excited. It means they’re real good friends now and husk is comfy with him now. Such a small detail but it’s real cute

poison really hits hard in the second verse when you understand the visuals and the lyrics. “i disassociate, disappear”. when he’s doing his dance number, you can see the visuals on the back screens that his dance moves are mimicking, showing that all of this is in his head, he’s trying to dissociate from what’s happening in reality so that he can ignore the pain. it reminds me of the ParanoidDJ song Use Me Up, which is also about angel and which has him saying “ I don’t even miss the pleasure I can no longer feel” however, valentino showing up shows that while angel can escape many things, he can’t escape val; even in his mindscape

Ive watched this probably a dozen times and never put 2 and 2 together. I always just kind of assumed it was musical logic and there was a stage out of nowhere with matching choreography on the screens for the sake of a show while still keeping the messaging. Seriously never even considered the fact that's where he was escaping to but it makes perfect sense.

People are so harsh on Charlie in this episode, as if she should have known better because we, THE AUDIENCE, know how terrible Valentino is. But until this episode Angel has been completely deceiving her and the rest of the people at the hotel into believing he loves his job and celebrity life and the only downside is that his boss is a bit of a hardass about putting in extra hours How was she supposed to know how going to speak to him would end??

I don’t blame Charlie for not knowing, but showing up without warning to your friends job to speak with his boss is crossing a ton of boundaries. Plus her staying even after Angel has practically begged her to leave? And then sharing her opinions on the work that she isn’t a part of? She crossed so many lines in that scene. I don’t think she’s a horrible person or anything. I think she hasn’t had a lot of interactions with others and because of that she doesn’t have the greatest grasp on what’s okay and not in these situations. But her staying after Angel begged her to leave while looking terrified definitely made me a bit upset with her. She doesn’t have to know Val is abusive to respect her friends wishes.

I agree here, we're all being hard on her, but kind of deservingly so too. She had the best intentions but she did cross a ton of lines. The second Angel asked her to leave, especially the way he did (he was obviously upset and scared), she should have left right then. But, her heart was absolutely in the right place. In her world view, the way it ended likely wasn't even a possibility. Unfortunately, she was shown the world is a worse place than she thinks sometimes.

@@malkarissreacts exactly! She only wanted the best for her friend, and her ignorance of his reality is what lead to the escalation in abuse he faced. It’s honestly really well done writing. I don’t think anyone should hate her over it, but her naivety is one of her greatest flaws. And that’s okay because characters need to be flawed to be dynamic enough to grow. And she did grow in this episode! She learned about boundaries and you can see her even applying it by telling Husk not to drag Angel back!

@@malkarissreacts Yeah, she definitely crossed some lines, I'm not disputing that. I was cringing so hard through parts of that scene lol. I've just noticed that many people seem to judge Charlie for her mistakes MUCH more harshly than they do any of the other characters. I guess it's just the double standard that gets to me at times, you know?

I actually find it quite realistic. People hide or protect their abusers, and ppl want to help. Some situations you can white knight, and in others it only hurts. It's very real in the case that she wanted to help him. She felt she could because she cares and loves him as a friend and found family member, but she doesn't know the situation in full and what it means because angel won't say anything to protect her and others that will possibly get involved, and in turn he is in a way protecting/hiding Val's real nastiness because he doesn't have a choice. It's very well written to the real situations that happen with abusers/abusive power dynamics that can be find in any kind of relationship.

About being an overlord - essentially, it means being a leader of an area, perhaps a section of the Pentagram. They also do tend to own souls but I don't think that they have to? It just usually ends up happening. That power can go a few ways - you could either see it as a responsibility and look after people in your sector, or you could use it to your own advantage and get people under your thumb. What kind of overlord Husk was probably depends on what type of personality he had before losing everything and ending up at the hotel. We haven't really seen that in its entirety yet. So far, a lot of this remains to be seen. I hope we get more into it in the future.

Yeah theres still questions to be answered, but from my understanding not every demon can make deals, ones that can take control of people by owning their souls through deals, once a soul is sold youre actually incapable of defying your deal, which in turn means more power for whoever owns the soul, essentially using other demons abilities and influence for your own benefit. The overlords seem to be a group who collectively own the majority of the souls in hell. There are supposedly demons who also own other souls but aren't considered overlords.

I think demons who have a lot of contracts eventually become insanely powerful, therefore being promoted to an overlord. I don't think it's decided from the start when they arrive.

Angel flirted pretty much with every guy in the show but husk in particuar and i can’t help myself from thinking he did that expecially cause he saw something in him, he found him an interesting person and the whole inappropriate-too-much kind of interaction was the only way he knew to approach him, or how he could do this staying in character you know. Idk i just find this very fitting in his whole character. Great reaction btw!

What really stood out to me is your reaction to Angel’s “maybe if I break myself enough he’ll let me go” speech. I’ve seen a lot of people skip over it with “oof that’s a rough line” but it’s one of the most impactful scenes for me. I really appreciated that you took the time to sit with it and dissect it!

To put it most simply, to be an Overlord you have to be able to corner a market on a particular resource and have a multitude of souls in your service. For an example you can look to Alastor and the Vees. Alastor died in 1933, when radio was starting to become popular. So when he manifested in Hell, he brought the idea of radio with him, making him the Overlord of Radio. The same with Vox. TV didn’t exist in Hell until he brought it with him and he teamed up with the other two to continuously enhance his medium, to make sure he would never be rendered obsolete like Alastor. The Vees all work together, because each one represents a new facet of visual media: Vox is the starting point of TV, Val is the adult industry and Vel is the social media.

There’s theories that Valentino’s salvia is like a love/lust potion, hence why he blows his red smoke onto Angel, and there’s theories that he used it to manipulate Angel into agreeing to sign the contract, also explains why Angel would sign the soul contract with a heart next to his name

“If I end up broken, maybe I won’t be his favourite toy anymore.” It’s even more depressing when you realize this is true on real life too. Victims of rape and sexual abuse often do become depressed and super unhygienic, and subconsciously try to make themselves as ugly and unappealing as possible as a defense mechanism because they feel like maybe if they’re gross and unclean it will stop them from being assaulted again. If they are t attractive maybe they’ll be left alone. Angel thinks maybe if he’s used over and over again Valentino will eventually get sick or him and dismiss him. Unfortunately he’s violent enough if he ever saw Angel as worth less than the money he was bringing in, he’s more likely to simply kill gun. Abusers don’t give up their toys even when they’re tired of them, they break them and find new ones.

Angel is my favorite character in this show and most shows. As a victim of Domestic Partner Violence in the past it was interesting to see how they portrayed it and how well they portrayed the hopelessness you feel being in that situation. It’s one of the many reasons this show is amazing.

I don't think it even matters to Angel if Val could or couldn't defeat Charlie in battle. Angel knows how cruel and heartless Val is so even if Charlie could win a battle if they fought, she would be harmed. Her innocence and trust in others' redeemable qualities would be irrevocably damaged. And aside from that Angel doesn't think straight in front of Val because he has so much trauma tied to him and he is reacting, not in fear for himself, but for Val taking his anger out on Charlie. We already know from an earlier episode Val has no issue going to the hotel and killing everyone there. At this point the hotel is not only Angel's safe space but Charlie and the others there are as well, and i think his fear is even more extreme than usual because i doesn't want to lose that or harm Charlie's ideals. He acts like he doesnt believe in them but deep down he must to have any kind of hope to escape his current hell.

22:03 Ur an overlord when you have gained enough power or influence over the pride ring, to call yourself an overlord. Power is gained through Soul Contracts, what you do with that power is up to you, every soul or lets say "deal" lets you grow stronger in power. You start off small, but the more you deal with souls and win, the stronger you get. Valentino, Vox and Velvette do have significant amount of power, but are not known for it, but their influence on the pride ring they live in, Valentino controlling all the sex work and movies, Vox on television and tech, and finally velvette whole social media. Alastor on the other hand is purely known for his power and reputation to slay overlords, and after that he made it his jingle to broadcast all the murdered souls voices through radio

21:57 Overlords are sinners that have increased their own powers exponentially based on the number of souls they own. Because of that power increase and the people that are now under their control they can attack other overlords and gang leaders to conquer territory. Sir Pentious wanted to be an Overlord so in the pilot he was trying to take over Cherri Bomb's territory in hopes that would give him enough influence to start dealing in souls. Alastor's territory is the district of Cannibal Town which Charlie's hotel is right next to. When he joined her in the Hazbin Hotel he technically expanded his territory for the first time in 7 years. Alastor is the most powerful Overlord but was almost taken out when the Val, Velvette, and Vox teamed up to combine their power. Seeing the threat that a team up can create is probably what made him willing to ally with Charlie. BTW on where they get their guns, bombs, umbrellas and the like, every sinner has power based on who they were in life. So husk can summon gambling related things and former mafia prince Angel Dust can summon unlimited tommy guns

Alastor isn't the strongest, zestial is

A lot of wild speculation here. Based on the fact that Alastor let Carmilla disrespect him without retaliation (and no spying on her is not retaliation, he does that for intel, not out of pettiness and he would have done that regardless), and that he shows a sliver of concern in his eyes (always look at the eye, Alastor almost always lets his true feelings show there) when he meets up with Zestial, those two at least are likely stronger than he is. Hell Vox didnt lose to him in the end, and Valentino said "you" almost lost, which means there was no team up. It was just Vox. And Alastor very specifically does not antagonise the other Vees, he even praises them in his song which he wouldn't if he had been foiled by them, (and the other Vees don't particularly care about Alastor which they probably would if they had almost lost against him, so it's really Vox alone that fought him and Vox at least didn't lose). There's also not a single confirmation of a territory Alastor would own. The fact that he described himself specifically as *Charlie's* hotelier shows he doesn't even own the hotel in the end, Charlie does. Rosie is the one who rule over Cannibal Town. Alastor has no known territory. Alastor's whole deal is to make himself look bigger than he actually is, and it seems to be working on the viewers too because he's cool and scary, but there's no indication that he's anywhere near the strongest. We know he's at Carmilla's table which makes him top 9, but nothing more than that.

Angel is actually scared of Valentino because Valentino has so much power over angel and also because he’s an overlord!! ( right is it overLord??) also I feel like the song poison is very powerful because of his emotion and gives it has so much information about Angel and show how much he really has been through and what he has to go through every time he’s with Valentino. I also just think the whole entire episode is very strong and powerful and has lots of information it shows a lot about Angel the character.
