It's really amazing how Reallusion makes it look like you will spend $300 for iClone/Character Creator. By the time you get done with 3DXChange, Motion Live, the Facial Profile, the Rokoko Profile, Smartsuit Pro II, iPhone, and everything else you need, you'll be lucky to get away with under $7,000. And that doesn't even include a high end computer. And you will soon find that you'll need two Rokoko suits to facilitate character interaction, which is very tricky with one.

yeah I spent about 450 on character creator 3 and iclone as a deal then qucikly realized I needed a LOT more stuff to get everything fully functional. now I make low poly character models in Blender from Stable Diffusion character images run through PiFuHD and retopologized with quad remesher and softwrap.

Finally a realistic video. Not everything is "perfect" like with every other video youtube that I've seen. Everyone has been like "this is magic! **speaking with whisper: With some cleanup**. Not a single video showing actual cleanup and a screwed up mocap. The only cleanup I saw was someone with a slight leaning hip (laugh). The "turn off everything in your home" and "clear out all metal devices" is completely unrealistic. Not to mention no other device requires this. That seems to be a suite-only issue.

Thanks for your honest review! It seems that Rokoko has an issue with locomotion. However, Mocap clean up is another task that you have to take no matter which suit you are using. body parts intersection cant be recognized in any 3d package. iclone never ending addons is a joke! It might sound easy workflow for beginners at the beginning, but it wont take you long to realize that all the addons that they are charging you for are actually "FREE" in most of the other 3d packages! In fact, you can get away using Daz for base mesh character and re-rig it in another package, again for "FREE". Sorry for going on and on about iclone. But I wasted some money that I should not waste!

Hey Keith, I’m so sorry for you!! Yes, I know this feeling. Over time I learned that great Mocap suits cost much more than the Rokoko and still need to be cleaned up. But I have one tip for you. Get the app metal detector and check your whole recording space including floor, walls and ceiling. It should be max around 40-50 but should not vary more than 2-4 in your shooting area. If you have more fluctuation, try to find another shooting area. For me the only solution is going outside into a park since my whole apartment seems to be full of metal parts. It’s mainly build in my floor. It’s not so convenient to go outside, but it helped a lot

Had my Rokoko suit now for over a year and its awesome! People have to do their homework, YES you will need to do some clean up work, but it gets you 85% of the way there, and YES you will have to have a good understanding of the software you are using. Some people think it will just work like magic out of the box, there is work needed to be done but the Rokoko suit can save you hours and even days of work. I can mo cap a scene in around 30 mins then a couple hours clean up work which would have taken a couple of weeks or more animating by hand. Would i recommend the Rokoko smart suit pro, 100% YES!

Oh yeah, supposedly now they're selling their "Coil Pro" unit for $2K that will supposedly let you use the suit as advertised. Yeah, an ADDITIONAL $2,000 for a piece of hardware that makes the hardware you already own work as ADVERTISED. It really burns me that in all their advertising they have people holding objects like weapons, etc. and there is not enough precision to keep hands from intersecting!

I think the future is Rokoko Mocap Suit -like solution combined with cameras. I don't think you would actually need physical sensors as long as the suit has clear markings that cameras are able to focus clearly enough. Of course, doing that real-time requires quite a lot processing power to combine multiple camera feeds with the suit measurements.

Your video is interesting, However you forget to mentioned something which make the different for real. EVERY mocap suit or Tech won't give you a perfect motion Data, that why animators exist. You can work on a AAA Games Studio or a VFX Industry it will be the same. Animators will retarget and clean the Mocap based on the reference and on the animation principals. I'm not using Rokoko, but definitely this suit is LESS expensive that studio are using. Overall your video is nice and well produced ;)

The trick is to only use the treadmill filter for recording, it gives you amazingly clean data. It's just that the locomotion filter is estimating your location on your foot position in the software, which creates rather unrealistic motion in the current Rokoko studio version, but if you just take the untouched treadmill data and clean up the feet and key the hip position yourself, the suit is pretty amazing I must say

Where would that leave real experts of the industry that have worked for decades and mastered all its quirks? My tip: Get Blender for free, create a python script for the mocap cleanup (at least jittering can be solved by simply averaging movements) and try embedding this in your workflow. Might save you some time.

4000? damn... I paid half that and my experience is pretty good, but then again, I don't use it for streaming live, I use it for motion data and also I'm an animator so Rokoko was perfect for me.

The suit was 2500 + 1500 for the gloves + 600 for face = 4600. Plus they told me I should try the virtual production add on (+ vive tracker) and another wifi I router (+ 1500) = 6100 that I spend. I can imagine if you are an animator that it works great for you. Now that I have a year experience my results are getting better as well. But it’s still hard for me to find a clean area to record.

Amazing information Moon. Brilliant and honest appraisal of the issues. I love rokoko too but the idea you can’t capture sitting down mocap if your feet are slightly off the ground (and all the other issues you mention) is not as clear as it should be. There is a free unreal project that uses around 8 vive trackers instead, which I will be trying at some point and combining this with rokoko gloves (as they can be used independently from main system - which is impressive) I also have iclone with all the things you mention - but I am curious to see if I can bypass all the workflow you mention with vive trackers, rokoko gloves and live link face - all streaming real-time into unreal.....I can find a link for the project if it’s useful to you (the person who created it is very generous to release it for free) - and you want to buy a few more trackers (-:

The cc3 pipeline is ridiculous. And if CC3 wasn't the best god damned character making program there's ever been... the licensing around realillusion products would be enough to scare me out of using it. There are things I don't like about it. Like, the way the built-in DRM is always breaking, or the way the thing crashes all the time, because their developers don't know how to check a float for overflow in C++. But it's the best program of its type by a mile, so I tolerate these things I'm into cc3 and iclone for about $2,000 and I still haven't gotten the mocap bundle. But I have invented entirely new ways to use ai for generating human models, which is fucking kick ass cool. Iclone, at least by itself, which is the way I have it, is mostly useless. This whole business of sneaking props and set pieces in through cc3 is untenable. Half the program is just missing. And I'm not paying for 3d-exchange, because all you get with 3d-exchange is stuff that should've been in Iclone and cc3 to begin with. They are getting rid of it in the next generation, which is the big reason why I put the money in for iclone. When iclone 8 and cc4 come out, I am going to be all over it. Just gotta bide my time and wait until July/august. The way I'm handling my animation right now, is gathering information with vseeface, and just pushing it into a unity app to do the character and the environment. Also, some positive results messing around with Kinect and 3tene Pro, but the tool isn't geared towards the kind of animation I want to do, and I hit a wall with it. Great for silly dance videos though. I'm trying some new software tomorrow that'll translate live face and hand data into fbx files. I don't remember what it's called. But, if preliminary testing is successful, it might be enough to move my production to entirely to Blender, which would simplify most everything I want to do. We'll see, I'm skeptical of apps with webcam based hand tracking. They're usually junk, but anything is possible Thanks for the advice on the Rokoko suit. I'm not quite ready to take the dive yet, but I'm close

I still recommend the Rokoko for low-budget. They made it possible to get affordable Mocap and that’s great! I’m still working on getting better results. For example last week I took the suit, my laptop a WiFi Router + Battery and went out recording in a park. Results were much better than at home. Will soon record a video about that. So it really depends a lot on your environment. And you should have the right expectations ;) I think with that you will still have a lot fun with it.

Usually a Mocap Suit is used for Motion Capture. I’m selling mine cause this suit is not good at mocap, it belongs to the trashcan and i will switch to percepiton or xsens. Rokoko can’t be used for precise mocap. All Customer that purchased Smartsuit Pro One were basically betatesters and they even paid big Money for it! They should at least take the crapsuit back and give you a discount on a new one. Shame! Not to mention they don’t Even Update the studio software. Monterey is out since july 2021 and the studio is not yet Updated. This is not a serious company. Stay away.
