I studied film design & over the years have written papers & given lectures on the design of Alien. The set for Nostromo was designed & built with a very low ceiling; especially in the main ‘living areas’. This was not only done for realism, but it also helped increase the tension & pressure the cast were under. Also the set was all interconnected & it allowed Scott to film 360 degrees. As part of Scott’s presentation to Fox, he produced Swiss artist HR Giger’s (pronounced Gee-ger) book Necronomicon & basically said to the Fox executives that is what the Alien should look like. Giger famously hated flying, so initially faxed sketches to Ridley Scott. But as his design role increased Scott managed to convince him to move to Shepperton for the rest of the production. Fun Fact: there is a little known cut that features an alternative sequence of Lamberts death. Veronica Cartwright has even gone on record & stated they filmed much more & she was in fact suspended in a harness & virtually naked (further alluding to what the alien may have done to her). She also said if you watch where the tail goes between her legs, it’s actually Brett’s feet, not hers (she wore cowboy boots as part of her costume). Definitely watch the directors cut of Aliens (one of the greatest sequels ever) & then the Assembly Cut of Alien 3. Alien 3 is somewhat of a failed masterpiece; it was David Fincher’s directorial debut & not only did he loose his director of photography ( the legendary Jordan Cronenweth (was struggling with advanced stages of Parkinson’s), but the studio interfered endlessly & the theatrical cut is no where near Fincher’s vision. Fast forward to the mid 2000s & we got the Assembly Cut which reintroduced a lot of missing scenes & gave a fuller more complete story. You’ll find fans of the series either love or hate Alien 3; I love it & have since I first saw it. If you like Ridley Scott, definitely watch Blade Runner: The Final Cut, Legend (Tom Cruise & Tim Curry), Kingdom of Heaven (the directors cut).
@camcordercamerin11 ай бұрын
I can’t wait to get more into it! I’ve obviously seen a lot of James Cameron’s and David Fincher’s works both obviously haven’t seen Aliens and Aliens 3! The set design and world building in this first movie is so unreal, and there are some many things I wish I talked about more in the post discussion (my brain is always empty after filming!)

@@camcordercamerinthere are several really good documentaries on the making Alien & the subsequent films in the series that accompanied the films in the blu ray boxset that are worth checking out. HR Giger, Rob Cobb, Syd Mead; along with the craftsmen & women who supported them did an incredible job at building an amazing world. I’d recommend that you watch the Directors Cut of Aliens (Cameron states it’s his preferred version) & also the Assembly Cut of Alien 3 is a must. There will be people who’ll try to get you to skip Alien 3; but don’t listen to them. It plays an important role in the series & those who hate it, fail to see beyond what Fincher was dealing with behind the scenes. All three films are fantastic & from a design point of view are stunning in their own rights.

Fortunately, this speed read hits all the high points of the movie. 1:01 The Company is sending the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 1:58 Ripley is the Third-Officer-in-command on this commercial tug. 2:13 The Space Jockey, a mystery for decades. 3:05 Second Officer Kane = Zapp Brannigan. 3:43 This conversation has become iconic due to recent events. 4:22 The Face Hugger, grossing out audiences for decades. 6:08 A Props dept. work of ART, made of sea animals. 6:48 Kane's last meal. 7:11 The Xenomorph, scaring audiences for over 40 years. 7:48 Burial at sea spares next-of-kin the grisly details. 8:57 Along came Jones. 10:37 Say hello to Bolaji Badejo. 11:35 How's that for a "syntax error"? 12:31 Ripley, you're in command. 14:11 In 1979, this was my "WTF? Ash ISN'T Human!?" moment. 15:26 Most didn't see this coming. 18:11 Escape route cut off, stop Destruct to gain time for Plan B. (Did you forget the Acid Blood thing?) 20:41 Tonight's entree on the shuttle "Narcissus" is Steamed Xenomorph in Shell. 21:09 Correction, Char-Broiled Xenomorph. This and the next movie made newcomer Sigourney Weaver a major movie star. Along with Sarah Connor of "The Terminator" (1984), they became Action movie Badasses. "Jennifer Lawrence"? Who is that?

Jonesy is most likely on the ship as a nod to history. Cats are brought on ships to hunt rats that sneak on at port that would then eat the ship food stock or destroy trade goods, spread disease or damage the ships equipment like chewing through ropes. Cats also can serve as a ship mascot, being a good luck charm or seer if you're superstitious. It's also just nice having an animal companion while so isolated. It follows naval traditions again later with Kane's funeral being a burial at sea. Sailors would probably choose to be buried that way if given the choice.

It ends up that Alien was being filmed next door on another stage and so the cast and crew went over to watch this performance and they loved the laser show so much that they borrowed it from The Who and used it for this scene when he discovered all of the eggs.

Alien series is my favorite. i saw this in '79 in theatres when it came out. You have no idea how much everyone was scared. Fear of Aliens? Well I do to. One time i had a dream when I awoke in my bedroom, while asleep and some black alien was trying to take me. I recall thinking "I am a child of God and nothing can harm me." It eventually left. Since that nightmare i have a fear of aliens too. I saw a UFO once too. it was one of the arrow shaped ones. Well anyways for what thats worth. So backto the movie you got to make longer clips with more character interactions. You missed some important things like how it has acid for blood. How Parker and Brett interact. How the ship crash landed. Brett is a mechanic, so he would know is something isnt right, right? That scene is inside the landing gear retracting room, so of course condensation. In the blue ray version of this you can actually see the alien hanging on the chains. I see your a cat lover. i am not. Kill the cats. The cat set Brett up and watched him get killed. I have dogs. To film the scene they had the cat and had a fabric screen in front of it. They then had a dog come in and the cat reacted. Trivia. If you got any questions on this movies just ask i got the answers. Signory Weaver was originally cast for the role of Lambert and Veronica Cartwright was originally cast for Ripley. Like a day before filming Ridley Scott switched their roles. I often wonder how the series would have gone if the switch wasnt made. LMAO you little dialog about Ash and mother was going until 15:03. change of tone eh?? 16:00 nope, no one expects Ash to be a robot. Well its not a govt conspirousy. Its a conspirious by "the company""...Weyland Corp. You need to watch PROMETHEUS next. Its the prequel to this move, BEFORE you watch Aliens, the sequel. I tell everyone this but no one pays attention. OMG Girl! it's not alien spit. The thing drools, like when your cat foams at its mouth. it has a mouth inside a mouth. Thats what it kills with. and yes its tail did go up into Lambert's. well you know what. They cut the scene because too graphic The BAD THING about watching movies now is you got the clock. So you see how much time u got left and just realize the alien is in there. Back in the movies there was no clock. Much more effective 20:56 priceless espression! Well their in a space ship you have to be careful about shooting things. U break the hull and thats it. OK girl if you continue with the Alien series do it like i said. Prometheus next (also be sure to get the fully deleted cut of the conversation between David and the Engineer its here on youtube. U can play it after the movie ends.like an add on. Then go to the Sequel of this movie ALIENS. I suggest you watch the reaction to this movie made by fellow youtuber reaction makers. EOM REACTS. this was the very first move Jay made a reaction to. He has to be the most jumpy reaction maker he needs a seatbelt for his chair. Aslo DASHA REATS..she has very emotional expressions. Physically you don't look that much (short brown hair, more round face, brown eyes) but it is quite interesting how similar you are otherwise. There is a Directors cut of A L I E N that was released in 2003 but Ridley doesn't class it as the definitive version, it was more of a clever way of attracting people back to the cinema with new scenes. It is absolutely worth watching those extra scenes especially one scene that is pretty amazing. There is a few other scenes, one of my favourites is the alien hitting the cat box with Jones in it out the way after Ripley runs and leaves him in the corridor. Its very disturbing.

I would like to advice/ask you to watch/react to the movie "No One Will Save You", which i think it would be perfect for you given your phobia of aliens.

Fun reaction. Have you ever considered that like Ripley, YOU have an air of power and that you are a smartass? And so maybe aliens would be afraid of you. Your biting wit, and ability to cut through ridiculous nonsense in one sarcastic comment would have many aliens crying for their alien mommies.

I got your back, CC. By the way, you probably already know that Harry Dean Stanton (RIP) was part of the "Twin Peaks" universe as well as many other David Lynch projects.@@camcordercamerin

Wonderful reaction! As i already stated this movie (while very good) didn't 100 percent set the world on fire for me. it was a little too bleak and somber, where is the cheeriness and optimism? Plus the movie just trails off at the end, with no real ending?? but despite that there is still a lot to like. As u stated Sigourney Weaver is wonderful as the take charge heroine who is both vulnerable and assertive at the same time. And the tension which exists between her and the android masquerading as a regular crew member throughout the movie is palpable (and unlike Star Wars the tension isn't sexual in nature this time, just repressed hostility). Her acting is also top notch . I love how her acting is always controlled and never melodramatic (unlike her hysterical fellow female on board). One last point, as i mentioned already this movie reminds me a lot of those 70's horror films, it definitely seems to have a lot more in common with Halloween than 2001, and the final scenes with her stripping down to her skivvies is more proof of that. Despite her tremendous body i could have down without that scene because it completely took me out of the movie, another misstep IMO.

Sigourney Weaver really is so great in this movie and I agree that the tension between her and Ash is so compelling - you can’t quite tell what’s up with him but you know there’s something wrong. It really is a disguised slasher!

Definitely watch the director's cut of Aliens (1986), then stop. The other movies aren't worth the time.

You're too detached, unengaged, and unaffected by everything. Just jokes or snarky comments that constantly undercut what should've been really tense, scary moments. Incompatible things with a good reaction. Good luck with your channel though.

I have it too. It can either make our attention disperse easily or make us super-focused on a given task or subject. It is also a cause of great ansiety on social occasions. Because of that it can make us sometimes look like we have asperger.
