I remember seeing this movie in theaters and being so amazed they never mentioned her weight or made it seem like it was something she had to overcome. As a chubby kid that meant alot. But now that I think about it, majority of Queen latifahs roles were that way....

Right, I've watched so many of Queen Latifah movies and TV show appearances and the only time she was in a role where her size was an issue was in an episode of Fresh Prince of Bel Air

This movie introduced me to vision boards. I loved how at the end they became realities. Also how a makeover can do wonders because when you look good you feel good but her real makeover was internal and she stayed humble. She came out of her shell, found her potential and invested her money instead of saving it and not enjoy her hard work.

This movie gets me every single time! It is truly about her discovering herself and it's beautiful how she's allowed to do that without the "self love is all you need" bs narrative that most writers give plus size people. She had to free herself. Not through love of a man or a christmas town, but through self actualization....*sniff* I'm not crying you're crying!

Queen reigned supreme in the early 2000s cinema, and rightfully so. A lot of the roles she took would not have worked with ANY other actress, I promise you! 'Bringin' Down the House' is one. I watched it after probably a decade fairly recently, and even though the jokes are clearly outdated, satirical takes on racism, they still work because Queen (and her supporting cast mates) had the charisma to pull it off. 12/21/20 @3:23p

Last Holiday is such a great film! I'm glad that it's not explicitly Christmas-y, because I feel like society forgets that not everyone is Christian/celebrates Christmas around December. I had no idea that the recipes were once available online, but I also second the notion for Babish to recreate some of the dishes

I legit just watched this a few days ago for the first time in a couple of years. It still hits and is just such a sweet movie! I remember seeing it in theatres when it first came out and was surprised by how much I loved it! It has such a wonderful message, Queen Latifah is fantastic and I agree, I love her relationship with Gérard Depardieu’s character! Beyond a surface level I also really like how it explores the idea of class structure and how that applies to worth. And I like how it even touches on the broken American healthcare system. So much to love about this movie and, yea, it really doesn’t get the love that it deserves.

Maybe it's nostalgia, but I still only have fondness for this movie. It definitely stands out against other holiday movies. Aside from not being Christmas heavy, it avoids the pain of annoyance for me that plagues most other movies. People being unusually grumpy, mean, or stiff, to juxtaposition against the happiness of the holiday is something I've never liked. Kevin McCalister's jerk of a family, Elf's angry dad, Santa Clause's Tim Allen being a grinch until he becomes Santa. It all has been something I have to get past to get through the movie to the good bits. While last holiday has this in Kregan, it rightfully makes him the butt of a joke, just pathetic, and never bothers Georgia. She is having the time of her life and this is the kind of feel-good I want in a movie. Then you layer in the existentialism of it all being bittersweet because she believes she is dying and you already have your real conflict as an internal one instead of one between asshole characters. It just doesn't rub me the wrong way as I feel a lot of other movies in the same genre do and it love it for that.

This film was totally off my radar. Back in 2014 my mother and I were having a quite Christmas together. It was just the two of us. We decided to have a roasted chicken dinner and watch some Christmas movies. One of the movies we watch was Last Holiday with Queen Latifah. My mother loved this film. We had a great time. It became a tradition to watch it around holiday time with us as well.

I love this movie! It doesn't get nearly enough attention, so thank you for making this video! I first saw the film in my old church youth group. I was introduced to a lot of great films there, but this one is the only one I own and care to watch over and over. Everything about it is lovely, including the music. Don't Wait Too Long and the version of Tracks of My Tears played in the film are some of my playlist staples. Also I don't know why I'm surprised it's a remake--I really shouldn't be at this point-- but I am.

I love this movie so much. Its so fun, and has a great lesson about learning to take life by the horns and being more self assured. Another thing I like about this movie is how after LL Cool J's character asks Georgia out, she chooses to go on her dream vacation instead. Even though his character is sweet, and Georgia has been crushing on him for a while, she chooses to do something for *herself*. Its just really refreshing to see a female character following dreams that don't necessarily revolve around getting her dream man. And yes, Binging with Babish needs to, I don't know, do a whole, multi-part video series for this movie for New Years! That would be GREAT! 😋🍴
@ntbored77273 жыл бұрын
So let me begin, I watched this movie with my mom today, and Georgia's bubbly, with a passion for cookinf and just overall nice character hit me hard. A character not wanting to die and realizing that she shouldn't be stuck in her own box, especially the scenes where she says to God that she doesn't want to die; as I, someone that has been planning her burial doesn't want to die. And just her being happy at the end... "I want to be happy" I want to get out of that box, so I'm gonna do my work tomorrow or something! 😁 Such a great review btw really enjoyed listening to it and lostening to you because it truly is a great movie.

(Especially loved seeing Georgia change, from her not realizing that she was quiet in choir, staying quiet about her crush, not speaking back to the people in the car to giving advice and singing up for skiing.) And her friendship with the chef is just 💕

This is my favorite holiday movie too! It was so refreshing to see a Black woman in a lead role for a movie that wasn't a tired cliche of the strong single Black mother. As a character, Georgia resonates so hard with me personally. Its also such a great critique of class/racial inequality. The scene where she calls out the plane staff for the tiny seats?? Iconic!
