I don't even usually watch reactions to this one, but your commentary on this was great, as usual. "This movie gives you scenery and feelings." Ha! Brilliant! Thanks for your videos! I hope you attract more viewers and subscribers. I like in this movie that there are things that both brothers struggle understanding. The things that Raynond struggles with, a lot of us take for granted. And Charlie initially is fixated or obsessed with money, and struggles with feelings and closeness. Charlie reacts poorly to Raymond's outbursts, but Charlie is actually having even more outbursts when he doesnt get his way.

Charlie goes from not really caring about Ray and even thinking he’s fucking with him to protecting Ray’s dignity, ending the meeting once they’ve made it clear Ray needs round the clock care and then making it seem like it was Ray’s decision to go back.

Most entertaining reactor on KZbin. She combines biting wit with heart. Tom Cruise can be a great, selfless point guard, setting up other actors so well that they won or were nominated for Oscars: Hoffman here, Nicholson in "A Few Good Men," and Jamie Fox in "Collateral." I'm trying to separate the artist from the art.

@@camcordercamerin Very good observation. Hoffman gets all the accolades but Cruise's role was more difficult to play in my opinion. He's the one with the character arc. He's the one that changes. The way he talks, the way he thinks, the way he interacts with people. All changes throughout the movie. Hoffman, while a stellar performance, plays the same guy start to finish.

21:10 they were doin that over and over again with Ray to prove a point to Charlie that Ray isn’t capable of making decisions for himself. He knew Ray wasn’t going to be able to answer appropriately, and wanted that demonstrated. Also, counting cards isn’t cheating or against any rules/laws, it’s also impossible to prove anyway. But casinos would/will often trespass you if they think you are doing it because they don’t want to lose a ton of money to you

I've never watched this before. I'd always thought the main plot was just about him taking his autistic brother to Vegas to count cards. But I see there was more to it now, though it did seem to have the cliche of Tom being an overbearing jerk that redeems himself in the end. But I don't think people would enjoy the movie if he was still acting obnoxious when the credits roll.

it was one of those movies where you can predict every single plot beat and it is definitely extremely trite… but when you’re as sensitive as I am it’s still extremely effective!!

I have a couple of 1970 mystery thrillers that should keep you guessing if you haven't already seen them (strictly for your personal entertainment) 1) The Bird With the Crystal Plumage 2) The Lady in the Car With Glasses and a Gun I found out about them from a Tarantino interview.👌

1. Hoffman really did fart in the phonebooth. Being professionals they worked through it in character. 2. The first indication the change in Charlie beginning to change to me is the farm porch scene. 3. The casino would have swapped out the dealer before taking the step of kicking them out. 4. The hooker was just working and it's doubtful she turned them in. 5. I suspect Charlie has a bit of his "piece of work" father has just as Raymond got the completely different personalities. (mentally/emotionally) 6. Top 5-character development movie. Perhaps Charlie won't be so self-centered and toxic now.🤩

I only like Tom Cruise when he makes fun of himself. Tropic Thunder and Rock of Ages. Ok, Legend and Edge of Tomorrow were kind of good, but they could have used ANYONE to play Jack- it would have been fine. Just like any leading man could have been Neo in the Matrix, it wouldn’t have changed anything 🤷🏿‍♂️
