Because of being a ring bearer, being stabbed by the Nazgul, and being stung by Shelob, he could never totally recover from. So the Elves gave him the honor to sail with them to the Undying Lands where usually only immortals could travel to. There he would be able to be healed and live out the rest of his days in peace.

@@camcordercamerin Take your time with the books. They are primarily about the journey, as it is inspired by medieval epics, it is a slow and cozy start and you will be reading a lot about the nature and how every place looks, down to the last detail and color, but the characters, dialogues and songs are also so well written and the world feels lived in. Plus, there are a lot of surprises for you, lots of stuff that's different/extra from the films. Wish you a fun, epic journey reading them!

Frodo got to go to the undying lands because he was a ringbearer and because he never really recovered from his stab wound, also the whole thing took a toll on his psyche so they made an exception for him. Sam and Gimli got to go too years later, Gimli was the only dwarf to go to the undying lands thanks to Legolas.

Gandalf could have saved everyone a lot of time if he'd just used the eagles to fly Frodo and Sam there.😅 I did see this in the theatre opening night. First show sold out so we had to buy tickets for the late show ( I think it started 10;30 or 11) but time flew by. But whenever I go to watch the DVD I can't sit through it (I need to take a break) How are things going for you guys? Your power restored? Are your grocery stores intact if you need to buy food or what's the situation? Prayers for everyone to pull through this.

I bet seeing it in theatre was exciting! We got our power back on Wednesday and the towns are up and running! It took us quite a bit longer than most in the area to get power back, but I was able to spend time at a functioning house which helped! Our area got hit hard but because of the geography didn't have to deal with the apocalyptic flooding that some places did.

That’s a common misconception. JRR Tolkien thought of that. But it doesn’t explain it in the movie. The Great Eagles would never make it to Mount Doom with the ring of power. The eye in the sky would see them immediately and sound the alarm. Then they would be shot down and/ or attacked by many creatures we didn’t see. The scene where the eagles fight the fell beasts in the final battle is a little too good in my opinion- which supports your idea. They must’ve told the computer animators to make the Eagles come in and kick the fell beasts’ asses because all of the battles have their ups and downs, and that part was an “up.” Anyway, thanks for sending five dollars just to repeat something everybody gets wrong.

The world & stories of Middle Earth are such an amazing, mindblowing gift from Prof Tolkien. Seeing the trilogy in the cinema was a truly awesome experience & seeing someone who’s never witnessed this cinematic masterpiece become so invested in the story & characters never gets old. Below is detailed what happened to the Fellowship, following Frodo’s departure to the Undying Lands. Sam: Samwise following his return to the Shire and the departure of his beloved Frodo, had an important role in Shire politics in the years to come. Sam married Rose after the War of the Ring and they had a daughter named Elanor. In the year 1427, Samwise Gamgee is elected mayor of the shire for the first time and in the year 1431 has another daughter named Goldilocks. In the year 1442 Samwise and his family travel to Gondor, where they stay for a year in the fair city of Minas Tirith. Following his first election, Samwise is elected mayor of the Shire almost continuously until the year 1469 where he is elected for the seventh and final time at the age of ninety-six. In the year 1482, Sam’s beloved wife Rose dies on the 22nd of September. Following this, Sam rides out from Bag End, passing down the red book given to him by Frodo to his first daughter Elanor. According to his daughter, Sam travelled to the Grey Havens, whereupon he crossed the sea into Valinor, the last of the ring bearers to leave Middle Earth, reunited once more with Frodo in the Undying Lands. Merry & Pippin: In the year 1427, Pippin marries a hobbit named Diamond of Long Cleeve and in the year 1430, his son Faramir is born, named in respect of the great friendship Pippin and Faramir share. In 1434, Pippin becomes the Thain of the Shire, meaning he was in charge of the Shire militia in the event they went to war and becomes well-respected in the Shire. In 1463 Pippin’s son Faramir marries Goldilocks, daughter of Samwise, linking our hobbits together in the bonds of matrimony and family adding to their already deep bond of fellowship. Meanwhile Merry, in 1432, called Merry the Magnificent by Shirefolk, becomes the master of Buckland. For this appointment, he receives gifts from King Éomer of Rohan and from Lady Éowyn of Ithilien. It is said Merry marries a hobbit called Estella. In 1484, Merry receives a message from King Éomer who wishes to see him again before he dies, by this time Merry himself was 102. Merry and Pippin, handing their titles down to their sons, set off together to Rohan, Merry being present when Éomer dies. Following the death of Éomer Pippin and Merry Following the death of Éomer Pippin and Merry continue on to Gondor and live out the rest of their life in Minas Tirith. Following their deaths their bodies were entombed in Rath Dínen, the hall in which the great kings and stewards of Gondor were laid to rest. Gimli & Legolas: Gimli and Legolas also had quite the journey following the defeat of Sauron, travelling together and continuing their unbreakable bond of friendship. Gimli was named ‘elf friend’ one of the only dwarves to be named such, and brought a band of dwarves from Erebor to the caves behind Helms Deep. The caves in the books are known for being one of the wonders of the north, with jewels lining the walls and ceilings. Gimli becomes the Lord of the Glittering Caves and together with his people, he fashions new gates for Minas Tirith made of mithril and steel to replace the ones destroyed by the Witch King. Gimli took Legolas to the Glittering Caves whereupon he was said to be speechless at their beauty, the first time a Dwarf “claimed victory over an Elf in a contest of words.” IIn turn Legolas took Gimli to all the forests of Middle Earth, including Fangorn, educating Gimli on the beauty that dwelt there. Legolas also brought elves out from the Greenwood into Ithilen where they dwelt for a number of years, transforming Ithilien into the most beautiful land in the West. Legolas and the elves also aided Gimli in the rebuilding of Minas Tirith, making it once more the jewel in the crown of the men of the west. Aragorn: Aragorn, now King Elessar married Arwen, and it is detailed that he had a son, and numerous daughters and through him the royal House of Telcontar was founded. Elessar took many steps to fix the divided kingdom which he inherited. Though Sauron was defeated, there were many who still had evil in their minds and sought to disrupt Middle Earth thus Elessar defended Middle Earth, protecting the kingdom of men. He re-established the Great Council of Gondor, and rebuilt and repaired the tower of Orthanc, in which he placed the palantír taken from Saruman. In Orthanc Elessar discovers heirlooms belonging to the house of Eorl of Rohan. He further discovered, with the help of Gimli, treasures belonging to Isildur which were lost following his death. Elessar repatriates these, returning them back to their rightful place in Gondor. Elessar also leaves the valley of Orthanc under the control of the Ents, who rename the valley ‘Treegarth of Orthanc.’ Although pre-occupied with his kingdom, that didn’t stop Elessar from journeying to see his friends, bound together forever by a strength of friendship which surpasses our comprehension. In 1427 Elessar declared the Shire a free land, forbidding men from entering it. In 1436 Elessar came north to Brandybuck visiting Pippin, Merry and Sam, giving the Star of the Dúnedain to Master Samwise. Elessar also expanded the Shire, encompassing within its boundaries the lands up to the Emyn Beraid. Elessar died in the year 1541 after 122 years of kingship at the age of 210. Of his death, it is written “he fell into sleep. Then a great beauty was revealed in him…And long there he lay, an image of the splendour of the Kings of Men in glory undimmed before the breaking of the world.” Arwen died a year after Elessar and it is written that “the light of her eyes was quenched and it seemed to her people that she had become cold and grey as nightfall in winter that comes without a star.” She died in Lorien, where she lived alone in that silent land for the last year of her life. There in the halls of Rath Dínen beside the tomb of the Elessar, lay the tombs of Meriadoc and Peregrin Took buried by his side, as faithful in death as they were in life. With the passing of Elessar, Legolas builds a ship in the Grey Havens and sails to the Undying Lands, accompanied by Gimli, the only dwarf to ever be given this honour. It is said that Galadriel, high among the Elves obtained this grace for Gimli, allowing him entry into Valinor with his beloved friend Legolas. And with the passing of Legolas and Gimli into the Undying Lands, so to did the fellowship pass forever out of Middle Earth and their like was never seen again.

This is a special note about Gimli's gift I did not write this but I saved it for this video when posted, the original poster name is shown - @Makkaru112 Galadriel's gift to Gimli has deeper meaning behind it, like most things in this movie & reflects the expanded lore of the middle earth universe. She is one of the 2-3 most powerful & wise elves remaining in Middle Earth since the time the land was young. She was born in a place called Valinor, or the Undying land... which is basically the place of residence of the Valar, the local pantheon, the local "gods" as you may call them. Back then, the world was not illuminated by the sun&moon, (only the stars, but rather by 2 trees of gold and silver, Telperion and Laurëlin that lit the world before the sun & moon were born from their last flower & fruit as they were basically killed by Melkor when he struck them with his Lance and Ungoliant the primordial Eldrich Terror, Ungoliant she was named by the Eldar). It is said that Galadriel's hair had somehow captured some of the shine of those two trees. Her uncle Fëanor, who was a great king of the Elven people after his father Finwë was slain by Morgoth(Formally known as Melkor). Fëanor arguably was their greatest craftsman to ever live, asked if she could give him a lock of hair, so that he could use it to fashion 3 gems that would shine of the same light as the trees. Sensing his pride & a shadow that wasn’t exactly belonging to him brewing from within, she refused his request 3 times. He stopped asking and made the gems anyway, managing to complete the task he had set for himself even without her hair. Around these 3 gems, the possession of which became the driving force for many of the great events in the world, entire wars that lasted for centuries exploded, and other events. The gems actively shaped the fate of the races of middle earth to the point that the aforementioned Valar got involved directly. During these times, events surrounding the gems brought about the traditional enmity between Dwarves and Elves... the same enmity that Gimli still feels towards them. That enmity however does not survive his encounter with the wise Galadriel, whom Gimli basically falls platonically in love with. By giving him 3 of her hair, Galadriel is opening a door, offering an olive branch that might one day close the gap that divides these two races. Legolas, himself being an Elven prince and centuries old, knows of the story through his father Thranduil & grandfather Oropher, as it shaped the lives of all Elves, and his subtle smile is possibly the first act of acknowledgment and reconciliation. it is also a way for Peter Jackson, the director of the film, to give a nod to all of the fans who know these facts and backstories... a way to make us feel seen, and to make us appreciate just how deeply the makers of the film respect the books and larger universe created by Tolkien. The thing with the hair may seem weird, but there is a significance to it in real life as well as in the lore of the story. In real life, it was not uncommon for wives, fiancés, or even girlfriends to give their men (who were going off to war), a lock of their hair as a keepsake, particularly in WWI, which Tolkien fought in. The lore part of it comes into play in The Silmarillion, Tolkien's tales of the creation of Arda, the Undying Lands of Valinor, and Middle Earth. Galadriel is many, many thousands of years old, & was born in Valinor before the sun & moon were even created. At the time, the world was lit by two trees, one gold and one silver which would shine at different times from each other, but would shine together once a day when one would fade and the other brighten. Galadriel's hair was said to look like the light of the mingled light from the two trees, which may have inspired Feanor, a master craftsman and heir to the high king of the Ñoldor, to craft the Silmaril's which were three jewels that captured the light of the two trees, one golden light, one silver light, & one co-mingled light. Fëanor had a bit of a thing for Galadriel and begged her for her hair three different times, which she rejected because she could perceive the inner darkness of his heart and rejected him, which made them "un-friends" after that. There is a lot more to the lore than that, so this is the super crib-notes version. But the point is, it was VERY significant that she granted Gimli three of her hairs to a dwarf, when she would not to the son of her king many 10s of thousands of years ago of which she is related to all three kings who were brothers and Elu Thingol of Doriath was one of the brothers that didn’t stay in Valinor even though he was one of the elven ambassadors along with his three brothers and that king I mentioned was VERY close friends with Thingol

So, at the end, they were sailing to Valinor, which is basically another place on Arda (the planet), that's to the west of Middle Earth (the continent), on another continent/ island called Aman, and is where "The Valar", or "the gods" live, sort of. It's very complicated, and I'm just learning myself, but Tolkein spent the majority of his life coming up with this stuff, then sometimes changing it, and then his son spent the majority of his life trying to make sense of it until he died a few years ago. So, it goes really deep. So, in Tolkein's world, he has his own theology, if you want to call it that, which is sometimes parallel to what we're familiar with, but is also sometimes different. There's also varying structures of the after life, which are different for the different races. Like it's not the same for Elves, as it is for Men. Without getting too deep, there's Eru Illuvatar, who is like the main God and creator, and he lives outside the universe, I think alone, in a place called the Timeless Halls. He is basically the father of all, and only he can create life, even though others also did through some kind of loophole, but basically he's the big Daddy, he basically sits removed from everything without getting too involved, but is still watching, and doesn't like it when you fuck with his children. His first children were the Valar, which are like a second and third class of lower level gods and demi-gods. The Ainur were originally 15, then 14, that are basically akin to mythical gods. Along with them, Eru Illuvatar created the universe, and then they created Arda (the planet). The reason it was 15, but became 14, is because the most powerful of them was Melkor, who later became Morgoth, who is basically the Satan like character, that was like a rebel angel that coveted his father's power, and is responsible for creating discord and unnatural evil in the universe, and was the original dark lord, and Sauron's master, which is another whole long story, but he was kicked out of The Valar. Then there are the Maiar, who are like demi-gods that serve the Ainur. Depending on the context, you could basically think of them like angels and demons. Sauron was a Maiar that served Morgoth, and then continued his work of trying to take control over all of Middle Earth, after he had been defeated. Gandalf and Saruman were not Men, but also were both Maiar sent to help protect against Sauron, but again, that's a whole other complex story, but you get the picture. So, the Valar are basically all just chillin' out over in Valinor, which is basically an idealic perfect place to chill. After Eru Illuvatar created the Elves, the Valar invited them to come live with them. Some didn't make it, and stayed on Middle Earth. The ones that did basically learned from the Valar, and became more advanced, and another long story later, a lot of them returned to Middle Earth, but for those that once lived in Valinor before, they're basically going home to an essentially Heaven like place where their friends and family that never left, have just been hanging out the whole time while they were gone.

Deagol, Smeagol's best friend, whom he strangles to death over the Ring, is in fact, his cousin, so it's even sadder and more buggered up. He comes from a subspecies of Hobbit called Stoors, DISTANT cousins of Bilbo and Frodo, who settled near rivers and lakes, and were often fishermen, like Smeagol and Deagol. But, anyway, Smeagol was exiled for killing Deagol. Fun fact: Gollum's name comes from the coughing, wretching fits he sometimes has. Over the centuries, well over 500 years, to be exact - Smeagol/Gollum is/are 589 years old when he/they die/dies - people would have heard him making those noises, and I think that's how Smeagol's evil side got his name. I've never read any of the books, not even The Hobbit, but I know some big fans of Tolkien's books, and I've looked on the LOTR Wiki from time to time.

Frodo went to Valinor, the undying lands... where the gods and "angels" live. Although the major god, Iluvatar, lives kinda of outside time and space. You see, no man ever went to Valinor. Their entry was forbidden. The Numenorians (think of them as Atlantis, literally) were so powerful that Sauron bowed to them. But Sauron (who at the time looked magnificent and fair) even as a prisoner, started poisoning the minds of the Kings of Numenor, convincing them that the gods were denying them immortality (Even though they lived over 400 years, a gift given to them because of their help in the war against Morgoth (Satan)). And go become immortal, they should claim it by going to Valinor. The gods were "fearing" their power, etc. Well, turns out as their mighty fleet approached Valinor, the gods sunk their fleet, SUNK NUMENOR, and made the world SPHERICAL (it was flat before that), so that men sailing west would go round and reach the same place again. Only Elves were able to sail west and instead of going around Middle Earth, reach Valinor.

The allegory of World War II goes all through the LOTR books. Tolkien wrote the trilogy from 1937 to 1949, so he had the rise of Mussolini (Saruman), Hitler (Sauron), America (the Elves Lands) the uneasy coalition of nations against the Axis, the rise again of the evil after its defeat, the triumph of the values of peace over force, genetic experiments, mindless hordes killing in great numbers, the marshes of the dead, spies and traitors, those who ran from their duty and those who stayed true, Kingdoms overtaken by despair and madness, the recovery after the defeat of evil leaving its mark on all who endured. All that with a bunch of real old fairy-tale English magical folklore mixed with epic Norse tales. Peter Jackson got this, and made use of it for modern audiences that have faded out the memory of the history that was really not that long ago. If you haven't seen Ralph Bakshi's "Wizards" (1977) you should. It covers a lot of the same themes in 80 minutes, in an animated science fiction epic with totally unique visuals. You look great BTW. A little bit of pouty and cry-face towards the end, but that's OK too.

Merry and Pippin are distant cousins, not brothers, and are also distant cousins of Frodo. Theoden King was Eowyn's uncle, not her father. Fell beasts are not dragons. Dragons are like reptiles and fell beasts are more like prehistoric birds. And Nazgul are the ring wraiths that ride them, not the fell beasts themselves. It wasn't a hummingbird, it was a moth -- remember back to when Gandalf was imprisoned on top of Orthanc and sent a moth to bring Gwaihir the Windlord to rescue him. In this movie they used the moth to let Gandalf know the eagles were coming, which has even more meaning once you've read The Hobbit. Honestly it was good to see your emotions finally get to you at the end after the way you joked through the serious parts of the earlier movies. Most people start the waterworks with Boromir's death... some as early as when Frodo says "I will take the ring... though I do not know the way". All that said... nice reaction! To paraphrase Sam, you have shown your quality, ma'am - the very highest.

Tolkien started writing this in the late 30s for context, not a time where we saw a lot of heroines in adventure, but I think its good it stuck mostly true to the books, instead of trampling everything with modern sensibilities like they would today. No judgement, but the obvious is obvious -- try the uncut version years down the road from now as a "revisit reaction," without the slurring and non-comical sarcasm. If I'm completely wrong, then you're just an "unflattering weird," but I have a 6th and 7th sense for reactions. Again no judgement, just some sincere & constructive advice... otherwise thanks for the reaction.

@@camcordercamerin I mean, you had a chalice throughout the duration of the first two films and grew increasingly erratic & seemingly drunk, especially in the first film as time went on (which is reaffirmed by your editors constant spelling/pronunciation corrections via captions). Please know I'm not complaining or offering a negative review (I thumbed up the video), but someone ought to point out, especially when they're well-acquainted. Cheers!

Interessting. I remember when you startet this and you thought you can be funny and snozy and all that but in the end the movies got you and you tuned down your acting because of it.

Actually NOOO! (they suck) because they butchered the book. I blame Rings of Power directly on the Hobbit Trilogy movies because they do the same thing- ignore the books EVEN WORSE. You’re better off just watching the charming old cartoon with the songs in it. Or better yet just read the dang book.

@@JayPadrig We have a theory, the more time someone has spent playing Dungeons and Dragons, and Medieval RPGs, the more they love 'Jackson of the Rings' and the 'Jackobbit'. Read the books.

@@JayPadrig The Hobbit movies were awful but, despite the weird fiery hatred of a million nerds, Rings of Power is really good. It's really found its footing in season two especially the corruption of Celebrimbor by Sauron.

The extended versions were not theatrically released. I think the extended versions are too much, a lot of garbage time, and they are so bloated all pacing is forfeited. But, if you haven't read the books, I guess it helps to explain some stuff.

@@kcewing1 ну так расширенные версии и не должны выходить в кинотеатрах если что 🤣 а смотреть их стоит как раз, ибо они расширяют и без того крутую историю.
