11:14:40 Basically that whole attack from Lernen was just him challenging Frieren to a duel, to show he was serious and able to hurt her. To both him and Frieren the fight never even started. Stark may have realized that too.

This coming out was how I found out you reacted to the first half, so I went and watched that all week since! I'm going to probably keep editing my comment (if that's a thing on youtube) to add stuff, but really enjoy your reactions! Couple things I wanted to point out so far: - In the episode with Old Man Voll, you can see how much he gets Himmel thinking when he describes how he carries on to protect his deceased wife's beloved village. I'm not a manga reader, but this strikes me as the moment when Himmel decided not to pursue Frieren officially even though he loves her. - It's hard to track Stark and Fern's ages tbh. They both have 18th birthdays during the season. I went and googled it to be sure and they are both 18 at the end of this season, and 17 when they met. (And apparently 20 as of wherever the manga was 10 months ago - thanks Reddit.)

It's hard for me to express how masterful this anime is. The animation, music, voice performances, and writing were all just immaculate. The best fantasy anime bar none, and one of the best in general. Instant classic.

11:19:55 The manga still has a very comfy feel, but the lack of music does effect things. It should also be said that fight scenes in the manga tends to be substantially shorter and less impressive (fight choreography is ironically often considered a weakness of the manga but a strength of the anime), and a surprising amount of time mostly offscreen (the whole fight with the gargoyles for instance was a single panel in the manga).

i just realized it now, in earlier chapters, Fern said that Freiren thought her that basic offense magic is enough to beat mages from this era. but at episode 25 where Frieren fights herself, she used any other spells except basic offense magic. Because shes not from this era.

It's weird that you try to apply hard rules to actual magic or believe thats possible. The moment you just say yeah its magic its kinda over. Tabletop or other 'magic systems' in fiction are an attempt to place existing understand and rules on a nonexistent, fundamentally impossible idea. It feels like wasted effort to put that much care in how many rules of reality you place on fiction.

Rules/guidelines in a setting for how magic works are useful things, provided they fit with the setting and the reality it is making.
