People don't realize that being a queen is a hell of a responsibility. It is a job for life and that life can be VERY short if you're a bad queen. People have this crazy notion that queens just get to laze about eating cake whenever they want. Look how well that turned out for Marie Antoinette. They ran the household/castle, often managing the finances of the whole kingdom. They have to be the perfect model of grace, diplomacy and righteousness. Kingdoms can crumble and go to war over a single, rude comment. If other nations don't respect you, they will walk all over you to the detriment of your people. An uneducated queen is a completely useless queen. Useless queens are easily assassinated and replaced queens. Eleanor is a good queen and a good mom. Not a perfect mom by any stretch but still wanting to do what was best for her daughter and her kingdom. She must be queen first, mother second. People that hate Eleanor have no idea what she must do as queen. Merida is a right shit for simply refusing to see what her mother is trying to teach her. Eleanor was teaching her court survival skills.
@agenttheater53 жыл бұрын
@@mokko759 And as we saw later it all came into use later, in her speech to the three clans, the vocal lessons and the history lessons, everything Elinor had trained her for, keeping a kingdom in tact. And I think Merida realised that as well, realised that it wasn't 'all for naught'.

I'm pretty sure it's because of the direction the film took with the bear plot. There's actually an amazing critique video on KZbin ("Brave was a disappointment", but don't let yourself be fooled by the title, it's not as harsh as it may sound) that explains how the bear plot cheapened what had been built up to that point. @@stefsmurf The whole point of the movie was for both Ellanor and Mer to grow. Was Mer just a spoiled child that just needed to listen to her mother, or was Ella not listening to her daughter and only caring about herself? @mokko7593 жыл бұрын
Unpopular opinion: Merida is the villain of the film. Mor'du was a baddie but he was no real villain. He could have been cut from the film and almost nothing would have changed. Merida, on the other hand, is literally the cause of everything that goes wrong in the film. She insults chieftains allied with her father, nearly causing a war, shirks her responsibilities as a noble lady, purposely ignores everything her mother and queen is trying to teach her, she does not consider anybody else's feelings or positions. Not to mention the fact she literally pays a witch for a spell to use against her mother. A spell which she has no idea what it will do, doesn't give a shit about her mom's safety or how the rest of her family will react to Eleanor being a different person. Hell, that spell could have been straight up poison that changed her mom from a living person to a dead one and Merida didn't give a damn so long as Merida could continue being a selfish, disrespectful shit. Merida was just more concerned with winning the I'm-So-Hard-Done-By Award than anything else. Didn't want to marry? Fine, deal with that in a way that doesn't cause a war or poison your mother. Yes, there is character growth as she realized everything her mom tried to do for her really was for her benefit but that still doesn't change the fact she was a horrible child.

I heard this movie went through a lot of story editing and iterations. Apparently there was one version that was more focused on the romance side of things. It's kind of left in in the movie when the dads of the clans are presenting their Napoleon Dynamite looking-ass sons, she kind of perks up when she first sees big boy on the right. It doesn't go anywhere, but it's still interesting.
@buildaggedonarmanaziie44623 жыл бұрын
I'm not even gonna lie, when I first watched Brave and the film was like in the middle where Merida and her bear mom found out that the prince became Mor'du I though that they might find another way to break the spell, and they break the spell for the prince/Mor'du as well and based on the stone carvings of him he looked decently manly, so I though that that was going to happen and then Merida would end up with him, because at that time I though "There is NO WAY that Merida is going to marry ANY of the boys presented, and Certainly NOT that boy who basically "won" her hand in marriage.". That is what I though was going to happen.

Maybe that’s the only eay she knows to change someone (though she, again, could have mentioned that beforehand if that’s the case). In further support of this, her magic seems to have a bit of a mind of its own (cf. the way the knives turned against her). I guess it can seem kinda harsh depending on culture and opinion, but Merida showed that she was listening and her lessons came in handy. I suppose it's a play on perspective.

Both Merida and Elinor had their display of mix of both good and bad, I felt 🙂 For example, Elinor was bad in never letting Merida have freedom or make her own life choices, but she was good in the lessons and stories she told her daughter and most importantly good in loving her child and desiring to do the “best” for her

@@fd3 For me the learning curve for the mother was during Meredith talking to everyone she realized that is that her daughter is not going to be exactly like her and she should let her be her own person

Just fyi, they're not Vikings. the Vikings invaded Scotland. These are the early days of the clans, around the 10th century, and the Highlanders in Scotland had the clan system until 1746 when they lost their final rebellion against the English (it was over replacing the King), you can look it up if you want, it was the Battle of Culloden that ended their way of life after the English forbade many of the things that made them who they were, really sad :(

Haggis is a savory pudding containing sheep's pluck, minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and cooked while traditionally encased in the animal's stomach though now often in an artificial casing instead. Yeah no

Where I'm from (Chile) we have a traditional dish that's very similar, it's called Chanfaina, I've tried it and it's actually really good even though it's cooked in a sheep's stomach

When you asked how she knows how to ‘Throw hands’ I think it refers to when someone’s is messing with a mother’s child mama bear comes out. Some strength that comes out when trying to protect their babies and it works here again because the mother is a bear.

You're great. But can you please just Minimize your Non sense comments??? Like when you React to a movie and Give your insights that's great. But you talk Toooo much and you talk about something that isn't about the situation of the movie anymore. And that's Non sense. Hope you will reconsider.

2:03 Whenever I see anyone commenting on the Pixar intro, I always think of this 30-second POV parody of it: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sICkh42Mbdl_qcU 😂 (Although apparently there's also one that's a minute and a half [I only just stumbled across it as I was searching for the other one so I could paste the line here] and it's also kinda funny: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rHjCdXqDjK5rbqM) There's probably more, but I only made it 2 minutes into this video before searching for links and going on a rabbit trail for 30 minutes, so I'm gonna get back to Rival's video now LOL

Tbh, as much as I love the film, I do admit it's a bit flawed. But, I maintain that that's most likely because the original director Brenda Chapman, an excellent filmmaker who directed the Prince of Egypt and wrote on Beauty & the Beast, was let go from Brave because of 'creative differences' with John Lasseter, who hasn't had the best track record around women. So I can see that Brave might've turned out the way it did, because they removed the main director and writer who was also like the only main female presence at the time in the writing department. And now Disney/Pixar have been celebrating Domee Shi, Turning Red director for being such an inspirational woman, and seem to not like mentioning how they treated Brenda.
