Yeah Miguel’s skinny, but compared to all those skeletons he’s a chub. 😆😆 Also some fun (sad) things to consider about Héctor’s death. - Ernesto killed him when he was only 21 and Coco was 2 or 3. 😢 - He was killed in 1921 and Coco was almost 100 when she would have died. Meaning Héctor’s been dead almost five times the years he was alive. You have to wonder if he even remembers what being alive felt like. 😭 Also puts into perspective how terrifying it must have been to first see this kid and immediately shoved into a phone booth by him. 😂

In hispanic culture "gordito/gordita" is also just an endearment. Couples call themselves that or parents to their kids. The fact Ernesto just say it to Miguel so naturally talks about how he is already connecting with him.

if you're confused about the twist still Imma do some explaining, whenever they mentioned Miguel's great great grandpa, they never even confirmed the name, when Miguel mentioned about it, Imelda only called him "Musician" to Miguel he only thinks of Dela Cruz but to Imelda she thinks Miguel somehow knew Hector.

Hector is being forgotten 'cuz Coco is the only one person still alive that -barely- remembers him. He became such a taboo in the family it's not weird if no one -either alive or dead- knows his identity. Also, makes me wonder if there were no more pics with Imelda and Coco to use in the ofrenda, so they had to tolerate using the one with "the musician" and his ripped-off face- So everyone in the family knows there was a musician once upon a time :3
@rudrodeepchatterjee
@rudrodeepchatterjee Жыл бұрын
@@mikeblackmetal I mean they folded the guitar away, otherwise Miguel would've known about De La Cruz long before he did. As for the family knowing part, no person can be betrayed the way Imelda apparently was by Hector, and not whine and cry about it during the rest of her life. Especially when the rest of the family realised her hatred of music, she would've told them that her husband prioritised music over the family, and then told them to never tolerate music again.

"Chamaco" is a term for a young kid. "Hey, chamaco" is basically, "Hey, kid" Like many words from Mexican Spanish, it has nahualt origin (i.e., the language spoken by many of the pre-hispanic cultures, such as the Aztecs). Pepita is an Alebrije. Alebrijes are colorful sculptures of fantastical creatures painted in vivid colors. They are usually carved from wood or made with wire and papier maché.

La Llorona is an actual song from Mexico, got its name off a Mexican folk tale (The Weeping Woman) though the story in the song is completely different from the folk story. But the song Un Poco Loco was written for Imelda - she drives Hector crazy but he loves her. I guess it was hard for her at the time especially because she didn't want to be seen as another silly young girl who lost her head over a musician.

Actually this song is not about the ghost weeping woman but about a sad love story from Oaxaca that's why the song is not similar to the ghost story, it's about two lovers one of them have to go to the revolutionary war in 1910 before they get married and that's why the woman cries and the man writes her this song or poem that's why it says "even if it costs me my life weeping woman I would never stop loving you"

This is a Pixar Animations Studios film. Some time ago, John Lasseter was fired from Disney for promoting computer animation which Disney didn’t care for. He formed a company and purchased the Pixar Image Computer from Lucasfilm with financial backing from Steve Jobs and began working on 3D computer generated shorts. After a rough startup they got Buena Vista (Disney) to distribute their first movie Toy Story. It was so successful that Buena Vista distributed all their films. Their films were so successful that Disney bought Pixar. Steve Jobs, now a Disney shareholder through the acquisition, advocated shutting down the failing Disney Animation Studios, but both studios were kept. Disney Animation has since bounced back with help from Pixar Animation via sharing of talent, but both studios still separately exist, under the umbrella of Disney. So, this is a Pixar Animation Studios film presented by Disney. I hope that helps clear that up. I personally find Pixar’s story fascinating.

Also I’ve seen the theory that whatever offerings someone receives from the living can somehow be converted into currency. Which would explain why a guy like Ernesto with a whole room full of offerings would be top-tier rich, but the poor folks who don’t even have their photos up are dressed in rags and living in poverty.

I hadn't had thought about the whole currency issue before but this theory does make sense. Also, in Chinese culture, there literally is money that you purposely buy to burn for the dead, and that's how I guess the Chinese spirits would get their money. Cultures are an interesting thing.

The wonderful thing about using music to 'wake' Mama Coco is that *that stuff is real*. There's tons of footage on KZbin of dementia patients who've wound up closed in, unresponsive, barely interacting with the world at all. They put headphones on these people and play them music from when they were young, and it just switches them back on. It's goddamn incredible, and if you wanna good-cry some more it's totally worth checking out.

Oh and De La Cruz's horse is named Dante, too, because Miguel has watched De La Cruz's films countless times, so when he first started seeing and interacting with this street/stray dog, which he really liked and became friendly with, (later considered him like a pet/friend), he named that dog "Dante" -- just like his idol [De La Cruz] named his horse.

There are other KZbinrs who have reviewed “Coco” and their reactions come off as very fake. However, yours is much more sincere and I appreciate that. Much like yourself, I, too, did not know anything about Día de Muertos until I saw “Coco.” I had always dismissed it as “Mexican Halloween,” and it is not! Even in the end credits the film encourages viewers to visit your local library to know more on this beautiful annual event. And now, I look so much more forward to Día de Muertos than mindless Halloween. As for the film itself, I have become a HUGE fanboy of it. It is the first time since childhood a film has impacted me with its profundity. It is beautiful, flawless, endearing, sentimental, and yes - dare I say - sacred to me. It is one of Pixar’s more underrated films, a status it does not deserve since it is much more superior than “Cars,” “Incredibles 2,” and other misses Pixar has released. “Coco” is cinema at its most excellent.

I have watch your harry potter reactions before! Your spanish is really good! I’m from mexico so here are a couple of facts: -Yes Dia de los Muertos is Nov 1 - 2. On Nov 1 we celebrate all children that had pass away and on Nov 2 we celebrate adults. - Like they said Xolos are a dog breed and the mascot of a soccer team in Mexico. - Chamaco means kid - El Santo (the weird dressed guy who was going to enter Ernesto’s party) was a very popular luchador from the 50’s to 80’s. He made a lot of movies consisting of horror/adventure theme such as El Santo vs the mummies, El Santo vs the vampire ladies, etc. During the golden age of mexican cinema. - Also at Ernesto’s party we see some cameos of other great actors and actresses from that golden age. - Ernesto is based on two popular singers/actors from the golden age: Jorge Negrete and Pedro Infante. In fact in one movie of Pedro Infante he was indeed playing a priest, just like in that scene Ernesto was “flying” - As a Mexican i can say that Coco truly was a love letter from Pixar to Mexico. The year it open here in Mexico it broke all record sales that it stayed on cinemas for almost 4 months. The next year they showed the movies in all cinemas around the country and the theaters were jam pack.

El Santo is not just a Luchador he is _the_ Luchador. For Lucha Libre he was as big if not bigger than Hulk Hogan, he was in 52 movies and was one of the wrestlers that popularized pro wrestling in Mexico. He only ever removed his mask once, a week before his death, and has several statues of him, the silver mask being a staple of his iconography

Imelda never said Hector's name to Miguel. At the time she never wanted to associate with him so of course she would never speak his name. And she probably just assumed that Miguel was talking about Hector the entire time, since he also never said the name Ernesto to her.

I watched this movie for the 1st time while I was deployed on a submarine. I had just received a Red Cross message that my grandma had just passed away. My grandma was afflicted with dimentia, the last time that I spoke to her she didn’t know who I was even though she raised me from birth. This movies ending has a very special place in my heart, definitely bittersweet of me crying in crews mess listening to the movie playing but not being able to stand watching it at that moment due to the memories and emotions it evoked.

Pepita and Dante in our world are animals related to an ancient believing since the Aztecs that cats and dogs are spiritual guides when we part from this world. In the dead’s world they are “Alebrijes” sort of fantastic monsters with a lot of color and a lot of animal parts. The “alebrijes” are a huge part of mexican culture and they were created by the mexican artist “Pedro Linares Lopez” they usually are made of paper

Pepita is an 'alebrije' which are mythological creatures in Mexican culture. they are the combination of various animals with colorful patterns that act like 'guides' for the dead. Dante is a xoloitzcuintle, a mexican dog that traditionally also symbolize a guide for the dead. Both albrijes and xolos are considered the 'bridges between the living and dead' so thats why Dante and Pepita have a different form in the land of the livin and can go from one world to another.

Regarding the Pixar/Disney thing: Basically Disney (the company) owns Pixar (the studio). The team at Pixar creates the movies, and Disney finances and produces it. These days, Disney has two studios to handle their animated movies: Pixar (which Disney acquired relatively recently and has made things like toy story, coco, incredibles, etc.), and Disney animations (which has been at the studio since its start and has made things like the lion king, frozen, Bambi, etc.) Also, I really recommend kung fu panda

Pixar started out as it's own company, but then Disney purchased them in 2006, and now Pixar works as a satellite company for Disney. It should be noted that, while they do a lot of collaborations together, Pixar and Disney Animation Studios are not the same company.

Peppita is what we call an "alebrije" here in Mexico, it´s not an especific animal, alebrijes are known for being kind of like a representation of dreams, they are also an spiritual guide. :)

Since you were wondering what the difference between Disney and Pixar is: Walt Disney Animation Studios has been operating since 1923. Their first movie (and also the first feature-length animated film of all time!) was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, released in 1939. Their most recent film is Raya and the Last Dragon, which comes out in the US tomorrow. Pixar Animation Studios was founded in 1986, and in 1995, they collaborated with Disney to release the first computer animated film (!!!), Toy Story. Disney also collaborated with Pixar to make A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monster's Inc., Finding Nemo, and The Incredibles. In 2006, Disney bought Pixar for $7.4 billion, making Pixar Animation Studios a subsidiary of Disney. Basically, Disney owns Pixar in the same way they own Marvel and Lucasfilm and Fox. Pixar has its own employees (writers, animators, directors, etc.), campus, chief creative officer, and technology. Disney co-produces the films, which is why you get "Disney Pixar" on posters, and both logos before the movie, but they are separate entities. I hope that helps!

on día de muertos our cemetery does look like that and in my town we actually sleep in the graveyard on the 1st to wake up the 2nd, i remember my granddad's tomb was right next to a tree with a snake and it used to scare me lots until we drove it away. outside of the cemetery, we have food stands because we spend most of the day there and they're in case we want to have lunch, i'd clean my family's stones and do a little touch-up on them and weed around, lit candles, and then go explore the other graves. mariachis and other musicians are also inside so there is music the whole day.

I'm not gonna lie, when I first watched Coco and there was that part where Ernesto grabbed onto Emelda, I though for sure that Hector was going to come charging out on stage screaming "GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY WOMAN !!!" or something like that, then they all attack each other on stage and they accidentally make it look good and when it is over Hector and Emelda have a romantic moment in the back to where they kind of come back together.

To be more specific, the day of the dead begins sundown on October 31st, until sundown November 2nd... that's because it was adopted as a way to integrate local Nahua customs with Christianity (All Saints and All Souls days are Nov. 1st and 2nd). The Nahuas actually celebrated it (sort of, and in the land of the dead, when they pan down, you can see old stone temples, in the movie)... basically in August... And they basically were celebrating the queen of the underworld, who protected the bones of the dead (which were believed to be needed to create new life), when she'd come up to check on those who left her to come to the living world (us). There were a lot of Easter eggs for Mexicans, in there. El Santo, who was the prototypical luchador (he had all sorts of movies), Frida Khalo (and her philanderer husband, who was painting the nude, Diego Rivera) and various others, like singers/actors Jorge Negrete, Pedro Infante, and María Félix, comedian/actor Cantinflas, and Revolutionary Emiliano Zapata.
