Fun things throughout the movie: 1. We all know how the garden in the other world looks like Coraline. But in the real world, the garden looks like the other mother. 2. It's implied that the well is another portal to the other world. Especially with what Wybie says about it, "it's so deep that if you fell to the bottom and looked up, you would see a sky full of stars in the middle of the day", and it's always nighttime in the other world. So this implies that the other mother has the key now... 3. If you look at all the scenes where they have dinner in the other world, the other mother never eats anything. There is nothing on her plate. In fact the only thing we actually see her eat is bugs. This is because she eats the souls of children to survive, and her last victim was Wybie's great aunt, so it's been a long time and she's literally deteriorating. She's replacing parts of her body with needles, and she was so desperate because Coraline was her last chance to survive. She literally says, "I'll die without you" . 4: the other mother can see out of anything with button eyes. (This is why Other Wybie wears a mask when he goes to rescue her). Also pay attention to the transitions. Whenever Coraline falls asleep, the other mother turns into the doll, which is always watching her. 5. With each soul she consumes, the more power she gets, but the longer she uses that power, the more she starts to lose control of it. 6. The song that the other father plays is a warning for coraline. If you listen to the lyrics, it's full of foreshadowing. There are a lot more small details that have an explanation, like why Mr. Bobinsky is blue, the paintings in the house, and even the cake Coraline eats, but you can look those up for yourself if you're interested.

Coraline movie was not that creepy if you have seen the book you would probably have nightmares for a week, I know I had
@hellowhat8903 жыл бұрын
These are some fun facts I learned about this movie: - The medal Mr. Bobinski wears is a medal awarded to those who helped with the Chernobyl cleanup, explaining his blue skin. - The ‘Welcome home!’ Cake has a double loop in the O, which is typically associated with the handwriting of liars. - The Bedlam’s needle hands are shown as hints throughout the film, like the creation of the doll at the beginning of the movie, appearing in lightning strikes or in the shape of the tree above Coralines head on the cover art. - Miss Spink and Miss Forcible are canonically a lesbian couple in the book, however it was taken out of the film since it’s for kids. - The Other Father is a creation from the Beldam the same as the rest of the world, and is punished by her throughout the film for trying to help Coraline escape, like the hints in the lyrics of the song he sings for her, the piano covering his mouth, the Other Mother dragging him out of the room when he starts talking about the key to the door and of course when he hands Coraline one of the ghost eyes before sinking under the bridge. - The soundtrack of the girls singing was deliberately written with the lyrics being just gibberish words, to give the song an unnerving otherworldly feel - As time goes on, the Other Mother wears clothes that more closely resemble her spider form, until the final night when she wears a dress with a skirt that resembles a spiders bonnet. - In the dining room of the other world, there are three pictures of children’s silhouettes. These represent the three ghost children the Other Mother has already taken - The first night that the Beldam and Other Father say goodnight to Coraline and sit by her bedside, the Other Mother’s shadow on the wall depicts her true form, while the Other Father has no shadow at all, hinting to his non existence outside of the Beldams intent. - It’s much more subtle, but throughout the movie the Beldam is deliberately posed so that the furniture or decorations behind her look like Devil horns on her head - The insects that guard the door in the other world are actually insects depicted on the wallpaper of the original worlds door
@marinad3 жыл бұрын
So the ‘other mother’ is actually a creature called the Beldam, which in lore is basically an evil spirit from the woods in a woman’s body. She can shape-shift her body into what a person desires. So yah, basically this entire movie was based off that type of mythology.
@videohistory7223 жыл бұрын
If you were paying attention to the Other Father's song, you'd realize that it was actually a warning. Making up a song about coraline. She's a peach (something to eat) she's a doll (how the other mother spies on her) she's a pal of mine (he actually cares about her.) She's a cute as a button to everyone who ever laid their eyes on coraline (buttons for eyes) When she comes exploring, mom and I will never ever make it boring (how the other mother plans to lure her into staying) Our eyes will be on coraline (sewing the buttons into her eyes) And then the pause right at the end, before he pulls away, he looks right at the camera like he's saying, "Did you get that?"

But the well doesn't exist in the other world, see can't have the key
@chipstarshine81502 жыл бұрын
@@-betagames- correct. The well may be a portal under the right conditions but it’s not to the dimension the beldam lives in which is why it was the safest place to put the key. The cats abilities are not very well explained but he has the ability to teleport between dimensions freely. Just because he teleported in the last scene doesn’t mean he went to the beldams dimension (why would he go back?) rather it’s just showcasing that he can teleport at whim to whatever other dimensions he’s aware of. The beldam is invariably doomed to die by starvation as you see in her true form she is very skinny and you can see her bones. And yes while she can eat bugs her life force/her immortality only continues while she can eat the “lives/souls” of others. She preys on children vs adults though because they are easier to appease and fool. This is a stretch but possibly the fact that they are young and full of life might be another reason but that’s just speculation on my part

There’s also a little detail in the book that Coraline senses the tunnel is alive. So it’s either a separate entity, or an extension of the Other Mother aka the Beldam. There’s a theory that the tunnel is part of an inter-dimensional being, and the Other Mother was trapped inside its “belly”.

lmao it’s an on purpose part of her character imo. for example, rival points out how childish coraline’s mom is in stating “maybe your other mother should buy all your clothes.” not saying get mom was necessarily cruel for this, but it’s very casually condescending and that’s how she acts towards coraline most of the movie. this might be why she has grown to be so individual and apparently almost jaded at her young age. she even has an RBF kinda like her mom 😭

What i love about this movie is that the ending isn't really a happy ending when you think about it: Earlier in the movie, Wybie talked about how you would be able to see the night sky if you were standing at the bottom of the well, that is a reference to the other world where it's always night time. The well is a portal to the other world and Coraline unknowingly handed the key to the beldam by throwing it down the well. The other world wasn't destroyed because when they were ''fighting'' the hand, we can see how the beldam is still alive, stuck behind the door. Which means that the other world is still there as well, this is confirmed in the final scene of the movie when the cat walks on top of the Pink Palace sign and is able to get to the other world because the portal still works. The garden in the final scene still resembles a face, but it is not from any of the lost children. It's not from Coraline either, but it is the face of the beldam. Her face is smiling, she has won.
@painauxraisins31313 жыл бұрын
Actually no, Coraline locked the door from both sides, so yes the bedlam has the key with her and she probably unlocked it from her side but she won’t be able to open the door from Coraline’s side; and since they threw the key back, no kids will have the opportunity to open it again (Unless the beldam manage to get the key back or something)
@tnlkb61153 жыл бұрын
@@painauxraisins3131 the thing is, at the beginning of the movie, the door was already lock from coraline side but the beldam still manege to make coraline come to her world. Yes, now, no kids can open the door with the key, but that doesnt mean it forever close. And we know that the beldam is smart and ressourceful, so what say she won't find a way to make it work?? Especially since she got both keys now. If she manege to get a kid to open the door, the poor child won't have a way to protect himself since he won't have the key to keep the beldam away after she got her hands on him.
@painauxraisins31313 жыл бұрын
@@tnlkb6115 Yeah but I think the only thing she’s was able to do back then (before Coraline’s mom opened the door) was to interact with objects that were already on the other side, don’t know if that makes sense lol; the doll for exemple was already on the other side and it was sort of a link between both “worlds”, so that would explain why she was able to change it I guess. I don’t think she’ll be able to send any rats/mouses on the other side now that one way is locked, as for the doll (if it’s still there) she might find a way to catch another kid’s attention but he won’t be able to open the door without the key so idk. I get your point tho ! I wouldn’t be surprised if the beldam found a way to get a new victim
@videohistory7223 жыл бұрын
Something else someone pointed out to me: There's a hint from the first visit that the other mother was spying on her. Coraline complains about wanting to play outside in the rain, to get her mom's attention, not because she actually wants to. When she goes to the other world, the other mother suggests playing outside in the rain.

Ooooo!!!! This is my favorite film!!!! Or one of at least. I think it does such a great job with leaning into the creepy aspect of things. Like, I wrote an essay my freshman year of art school and I used it as an example. The scene where Coraline is offered the buttons utilizes a very subtle Dutch angle to make us feel unsettled, even if we don’t realize what’s going on. Similarly, when the Other Father pulls his lower jaw down, it become uncanny valley because there’s an unrealized set of rules that we set for this film in our understanding of it as a stop motion (ergo, a real set that follows the rules of real life) means we understand that a set figure with a set skeleton shouldn’t be able to stretch like it does. There are other things but those I think stand out the best! Have you seen Kubo and the Two Strings? Is done by the same studio, and is just gorgeous to watch! The animation and story are absolutely phenomenal!

Also, the "other mother" is known as the Beldam, she started with the little pioneer boy which probably wasn't too hard assuming the roles he was forced to play in like 18-1900's. Then she feeds on their young lifeforms and the eyes make the world bigger and better, meaning the more eyes, the better the world. After she took the girl with the weird looking hat probably 1940's time and the Wybie's Grandma's twin. The longer time without eating again, the more desperate she becomes, hence the signs of impatience and even the people she makes like her dad and Wybie had their own mind and unlike the neighbors who were controlled by the Beldam. It's like she's a starving wolf who still has to wait for her food to be close enough. And ironically she can only take the eyes/lives with their consent.

i have a theory that beldam actually controls her parents and make illusions for coraline. So, her parents suddently changed cause beldam was controlling them the whole movie to not give attention to their daughter so she could be more interested in the other world that has everything she wanted. And when coraline came back to the real world and her parents disappeard, actually beldam was controlling them to stay out of there (probably in the city), but when they came back they didn't remember or didn't noticed that they were out for so long. and also, just to answer your question, Bobinsky is blue and has this weird body shape because he was one of the Chernobyl Liquidadors, probably he was kinda infected by the radiation and just stayed like that, and that's also why he's so flexible. That's kinda confirmed cause he uses the medal that all the liquidators have recieved.

The other mother can create a exactly what Coraline had in the original world, but there was no and she got hit in the face like multiple times plus she can’t see the night sky that YB describes is not supposed to mean that the night sky of the other world because it’s always night there it is that the key will be lost where no one can reach it in the infinite night sky😮😅

As a child i hated real parents because they wouldn't give Coraline an attention. But only now i understand they had no choice. After moving they ran out of money. They didn't even have a money to buy groceries. Thats why they were so focused on finishing the catalogue, had a crappy food and couldnt buy her gloves

Plus the mom had gotten in a minor car crash, so that’s hospital bills and car insurance stuff(since the mom rear ended another car I doubt any damages to her car were covered). On top of that she has to be in a neck brace, so she’s likely in at least a low level of constant pain all the while she has to sit and stare at a screen all day for work.

Staying would be the best way to beat her. If you can’t stay there unless she sews the buttons and she can’t sew the buttons unless she has consent(or wins it) and the worst she can do to you is lock you away until you starve, change your mind or go crazy. She’ll starve before that happens considering where she’s at

The author wrote the book because his daughter wanted some scary stories to read and he thought actual horror stories were too much for kids so he decided to write something that's basically child horror or YA horror

Which is funny to me since has a kid, i watched horror movies like chucky, saw and friday the 13th and i was never scared by them. And yet, Coraline and monster house did the opposite.

This movie is a masterpiece. So amazing. Also, just a tip; I don't immediately see it in your vids but if you haven't seen Anastasia yet, please do. It's so dark and beautiful.

Love your hair😍 I think Coraline is just creepy but as it is based on Neil Gaiman's novella than it is understandable as it is his style 🙈 Great reaction 💪🏻🌺
