Regardless of jokes though I do think you reacted more respectfully than a LOT of people watching the show. Like yes is funny and ridiculous but even through laugh you reflect on how addictions are real and are a mental health thing that should be taken seriously and require professional help. I think a lot of people react to these vids and just mock it without at least reflecting on how they are all real people with psychological issues.

I'm not a doctor, but I believe that the woman who eats toilet paper should be tested for nutrient deficiencies. Pica (eating things that aren't food like tissue, chalk, a lot of ice, rocks etc.) could be a symptom of anemia or something else.

I had pica due to iron deficiency when I was a child so I understand exactly what these ladies feel. I used to consume sand, human hair and carpet on the daily but one intestinal surgery to remove an "adult rat" sized blockage later and I learned to ignore the urges lol

I went through severe anemia so I had pica - which is craving non food items due to nutritional (in this case iron) deficiency. Some people crave ice. I craved baking soda. Luckily toothpaste had that so just brushing my teeth took the edge off (thankfully I didn't want to eat it). I was brushing like 5 times a day. If I wasn't brushing a part of my mind was thinking of brushing for that relief. It was a wild experience of an intense compulsion that I hope never to have again. My sweet tooth had nothing on my pica experience. And it's why I suspect at least some of people on this show likely have pica or something else going on. I would be so curious if some of these people would do blood tests to see if that's the reason for their addiction. Don't know if TLC would go for that though.

Please keep this series going. I only watched this show ONCE! It was this woman who wouldn't throw away food and wouldn't let her boyfriend shower longer than like 3 minutes. She'd scrap leftover salad dressing off her b/f and little kid's plates and put it back in the bottle to reuse it later. She did the same thing with spaghetti sauce. She literally made lasagna and cooked it in the dishwasher, while the dishes were washing, then turned around and served it to company. I about threw up!

Billy, i had a heart attack about 6 years ago, one of the symptoms is eating things deemed inedible (liek temporary pica syndomre) and i ate toilet paper (not used!!) for two weeks thats all i craved until i finally went to the E.R. once i was better form the H.A i stopped eating it because my body/mind didnt 'need' it anymore.

this show is something else for sure i don't even know how it's possible to have those kind of addiction but i heard that some women do have during their pregnancy those type of cravings that turn into addiction (sometimes) eating paper or chalk or things like that (that can be just during the pregnancy or keep on going even after) so i thing that may be some sort of deficiency .. I've never eaten paper but as a kid, I did chew on it and doctor's said it has to do with my iron levels being low. I haven't chewed on it since childhood though...this girl clearly got a problem, and i know her digestive system is MESSED up.
