But or Rent - Polar Express - • The Polar Express
Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis ("Forrest Gump"; "Cast Away") reunite for "Polar Express," an inspiring adventure based on the beloved children's book by Chris Van Allsburg. When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe.

Not sure if anyone has said this but I find it an interesting fact; male reindeer actually shed their antlers in late autumn , whereas the females have them until the spring when their calves are born, so the reindeer that we see always see pulling Santa's sleigh are actually female reindeer 🙂

Rudolph actually isn't Canon to the story of Santa and his reindeer. Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer is a creation of the Montgomery Ward department store as a promotional gimmick to sell merchandise in 1939.
@ashesbaby266
@ashesbaby266 8 ай бұрын
The actual creator gave them permission to use it that way. He Initially made it up as a story to tell his child, and then he submitted it to the store when they were looking for something new. They originally made the nose blue. Here is just a little bit about it: Robert L. May created Rudolph in 1939 as an assignment for Chicago-based Montgomery Ward. The retailer had been buying and giving away coloring books for Christmas every year and it was decided that creating their own book would save money.

What kind of twisted perspective is that? "During the Great Depression, Chicago-based department store Montgomery Ward bought coloring books to give to children at Christmas. In the late ‘30s, they decided that it would be less expensive to have one of their employees create a children’s story rather than to buy preprinted storybooks on the market. In 1939, Robert L. May, a poet who worked for Montgomery Ward was given the assignment. May had a young daughter to whom he read his story as he wrote it to make sure it would resonate with his intended audience. It was a fabulous success in its first year and almost 2 ½ million copies were given away for free that Christmas by the store." That's a FAR cry from "promotional gimmick" It's people like you that take the magic out of the world.

I grew up watching this movie, so it's never been uncanny to me. Even monster house. Idk I don't really get effected or freaked out by it in animation. Irl pictures do get me, like a plush bunny with human teeth. Even in Until Dawn (video game) it doesn't bother too much once I get used to it.

41:00 You're a parent yourself, so I'm sure you understand you don't have to personally believe in the magical in order to keep that belief alive in your children. It's technically lying, but it's for the cause of letting them believe and hope in something while they want to. I imagine a lot of parents go through that Santa phase with their children, where they have to come up with an answer for their child's questions. That was actually a huge part of "The Santa Clause".

I don’t know why people think this movie is creepy. Other than a fan theory of the main character is on a train of the afterlife and the main character when he’s on top of the train accidentally froze to death and he’s seeing his spirit talking to him .
@meganlodon
@meganlodon 8 ай бұрын
The reason why people think it's creepy is due to the uncanny valley of the characters, but I think they look alright to me - not creepy at all. To be honest, the only mildly creepy part of the movie is the puppet room scene. That said, I've never heard of that theory before, but it is a very interesting way of interpreting the movie.

Not that anyone is asking, but for those who are utterly confused about that hobo dude on the train, there's a deleted music number between the two engineers that explains that he was a man named King that hitched a ride on top of the train and one night he got his noggin busted from Flat Top Tunnel - the tunnel that he helped the boy not get killed by (Hell, they actually technically showed how he died - when the main three kids got separated on the caboose at the North Pole, and after asking if the boy wanted another cup of Joe, he got smacked by an oncoming tunnel, turning into mist). So, yeah, he acts as both the metaphor of who the boy could've turned into as a non-believer, but he is also literally just a dead dude who haunts the train.

My take on the parents, assuming they or the father at least went on the train, is their experience may have been different. I think train kid would fall out of belief, after so many years not being able to tell whether or not the experience actually happened. For a while, I am sure the kid believed much longer than most kids still, but not forever. Hero kid is a bit different as he got a small item that he lost, which he recovered in his house as a present his parents were not thrilled by. Pair that with him needing to believe that even when he got old he could always here the bell based off his experience.
