Just one point needs to be made. I'm a Soldier in the National Guard, and I've been in for 18 years. Every year we must sit through a whole slew of annual briefings, one of which is on human trafficking. During the brief, were given information on the number of people being trafficked, the ways they're being trafficked, where they're ending up, how to spot someone who's been trafficked, etc. This is a much larger issue than the general public knows about, though I suspect that might be due to lack of attention more than anything else. My civilian employer is the hospital located a mile from my home, and I work in the ER. Our public restrooms have signs above the mirrors that offer help for human trafficking victims in English and Spanish. Note that I live in the Midwest, a few hours south of Canada. In case y'all were wondering how widespread this is. Keep your kids close. Keep your teens closer. Keep your head on a swivel, and learn how to spot people who are being trafficked. The more people know, and the more they keep an eye out, the harder it will be for the traffickers.

"These people are literally being told...you have to not like it." And that - that thing right there - explains SO MUCH why we are divided as a society today. Because people on both sides of the political spectrum are being told what they're supposed to like and not like, and are afraid of running afoul of their tribe. And if you don't belong to a side and refuse to play the game, you end up simply angering both sides. Fuck this reality.

My local theater put out pamphlets that gave more insight to human trafficking on a table where the theater for the movie is. Gave guides on spotting potential traffic victims, statistics, numbers to call and websites, among other things. The theater was also packed both times I went and saw it. The parking lot was full and the people who went to the movies went and saw that movie because no one else was in the lot when they went home. We have 9 theaters in a single building and no one was seeing the other movies.

My roommate works in a hospital and specializes in human trafficking victim aid. There's certain ways the hospital handles people who have been admitted that have been victims of it. He saw the movie (I have yet to see it yet). He told me the movie is mostly accurate with the usual Hollywood flair and changes for excitement's sake. He said in terms of filmmaking it's nothing groundbreaking besides the subject matter itself. Hopefully people will start to volunteer and give time to charitable organizations that combat human trafficking because of this movie.

You'd think with all the right-wing fanfare over this movie organizations would have to be turning away volunteers and funding for child mental health, foster agencies, policing of those abuse-ridden agencies, healthcare for kids, food insecurity for kids, etc would be all over the news but... No. Because the literal only response is crying on the internet about a movie. I've been volunteering with the B&G club for decades. We need more help. We have. For decades. It was not made by Angel Studios. It was made under FOX, it was ready to go but then Disney bought FOX and kept the movie shelved. The director/producer then got the rights back and searched for a company to provide distribution, but no one wanted it (including Netflix, of Cuties infamy). They were about to release the movie for free on KZbin, but then they got the call from Angel Studios and they they made the arrangements to get it on theaters.

Shoe hit the nail on the head: the bigger issue isn't the realization that there's a global human trafficking trade that involves children, it's that the media heard that's what this movie was about in an attempt to make people more aware of it... and their reaction was to do everything in their power to attack the movie. That is AMAZINGLY suspicious behavior, and given what we know about some of these critics, it sounds a lot like a "I think the lady doth protest too much" situation. I think the best thing that came out of this movie is that it helped people realize that not only is there criminal cartels that help traffic children for sexual purposes, but there's a lot of people who are in positions of power and influence that are likely their customers.

@@mayonnaiseonanescalator7237 I have no idea, and it would probably take an exhaustive effort to probe the margins of how many nations produced article writers who attempted to condemn the movie. I suppose that question does have value in an academic sense, but the deeper issue is that any so-called journalist condemned it at all. When you consider that a number that have done so have questionable positions regarding pedophilia, the more it seems to be that those who deign to rule over us and tell us what to consider truth are people who more often than not engage in the behavior themselves.

Its not. The writer and subject of the movie is a q conspiracy nut , who embellishes a lot of details and was kicked out of the organization he champions in the movie. Both things can be true at the same time. You can be anti child trafficking and anti Q. Your patronage of this movie shouldn’t determine your alignment.

I never watched cuties & it's why I cancelled my Netflix after 11 years. Never heard of this Q thing in all my research after 9/11 when I learned to always do the opposite of what the media tells you, it's also how I found out about these "islands" & sex-trafficking involving government officials from Cathy O'Brian's book entitled "Trance-Formation of America", which came out in '91 I think. The Q thing must be something only on "social" media or "smart" phones, which I NEVER use, even before Assange & Snowden confirmed what I had already suspected. Jim Caviezel also stars in 'The Thin Red Line", my favorite war film. I forgot he played the god-man from Judea. "o w o"

What's funny about that is I did a lot of activism work during BLM protests. Hand out food, city EMT, etc. But I came across a lot, of Q people and in my professional and personal opinion, they are all very mentally ill people. I've met a lot of people on every side of almost every issue. But those people, hands down, the entire group, are mentally ill. I don't mean like, sad mentally ill, I mean dangerously ill. But to downright say something is something with no evidence is literally the exact same mentality of the Q people...the same exact mentality. So thats funny to me. I showed a friend once a fact out of a text book I fucking bought like 18 years ago and he read it and simply dismissed it. A proven fact. Some people, many people, simply refuse reality because their delusions are more comforting. When you take from them any ability to have a decent reality, they will fold into their delusion completely. What were seeing is the mental collapse of a society the intentionally created a massive poor class with no way out under the guise of working harder to get out. It's an easy observation if you think more objectively about everything going on.

It's a symptom of our modern culture. Nobody wants to make any effort whatsoever in any aspect of their lives, including what they think about *insert issue here*. Not only do they just believe whatever the media tells them to, they don't even read the article. They will form an opinion, and vigorously defend it, based solely on the headline! It's astonishing to me that in the information age, when we have a tool in our pocket that can look up literally anything, people are more ignorant than ever.

As far as what you can do to combat human trafficking, it really comes down to just taking action when you can -- "see something, say something." There's a fine line between vigilance and paranoia, but I think it's better to err on the side of caution. Too many people are quiet and just don't want to get involved, and I totally get that, I completely do. At the same time, what if it was happening to your child, or to you, and you know that someone who could have stopped it didn't? There was a story recently about a girl who got kidnapped from her home in Virginia and carried to Nevada by a man who forced her into sex work. She brought her Nintendo Switch along, and if it wasn't for a friend who saw her come online while she was missing and then told their parents, she would probably have stayed missing. All it takes is speaking up when you notice something.

"see something, say something." There's a fine line between vigilance and paranoia, but I think it's better to err on the side of caution. All too often this line is used as an excuse to justify harassing fathers with their children out in public for normal shit that nobody would bat an eye over when the child is with their mother. Also people tend to be way more """vigilant""" protecting girls than boys.
@azazelleblack
@azazelleblack Жыл бұрын
@@MrStonedOne Crazy people certainly do crazy things. Really, though, we don't disagree -- human trafficking is bad, and it's good to prevent it. Harassing people with no evidence besides a "vibe" is also bad. Honestly, It's not hard to tell a loving father and his happy daughter apart from a child being trafficked if you have even the barest modicum of human empathy, and if you don't, maybe be self-aware about that and just don't accuse people of things without evidence. It's not hard, and there's no reason to push back against vigilance with an excuse of "maybe sometimes it might be annoying to someone."

@@azazelleblack Good comment, it's not a black and white thing. If you see a child which is obviously afraid, very nervous around an adult you need to ask yourself what's going on. Back in the 70s and 80s and early 90s they used to train store clerks to look for signs of an abducted/abused child, they used to train teachers to do that as well. This was at the same time the milk carton campaigns were going on, but all that stopped in the late 90s and now the modern attitude is "mind your own business". "See something, say something" is now synonymous with being a "Karen" and too many tragic events have taken place because of it. But modern society rewards the hardboiled "tough guy" cynical attitude of "too bad, so sad, sucks to be you." Compassion, caring and empathy have been drained from this society and you can see it everywhere, people simply don't give a crap about anyone else and almost everyone under 40 has been trained to be a narcissist, if TikTok and Facebook are any indicator.

So, I thought someone making a movie about this was actually interesting. I'm Honduran and where I grew up, people got kidnapped constantly. I knew about the operation before they made the movie. One of the guys I knew growing up was kidnapped and they called his parents when they were conducting the operation and told them they may be able to rescue their son. Sadly, they didn't and he's never returned 😔 Crazy enough, the tie in to QANON basically stems from the fact that the slave and organ trades are VERY prevalent still, and that means that some rich people may be buying into all of it. But in a lot of Central and South American countries is basically where it all starts.

The Honduran government also seemed exited but I can see why it'd cause controversy with the locals... Specially because SO MANY people get kidnapped out there everyday. Mind you, this movie only shines the light on about 5% of the whole problem. The whole getting kidnapped then sold as slave for the cartels or for prostitution isn't even the worst or even dark compared to some of the things that happen to those who get kidnapped. So to some people that still have close ones missing, or were affected by it, I can see it'll seem tone def or like a Hollywood cash grab.
