I think Gwen and Hobie's friendship and her like wearing his shoes makes a lot of sense when you remember that she's essentially been homeless ever since the beginning of the movie. So all of the "oh, are they like More than friends" vibes that Miles was worried about at first was really just the fact that Hobie's a really cool dude and a great friend who was letting her crash with him because she literally didn't have anywhere else to sleep.

True. And I never thought of Hobie as a romantic interest. I think it's interesting for Gwen to note that she said Miles is basically the only friend she has made. Which means she doesn't even really consider Hobie a friend like she does for Miles. Like no doubt I'm sure she's grateful for Hobie and probably is her friend, but she just wasn't ready to admit it. But honestly, I'm sure by the time she reconciled with her dad, the end of Across and I'm sure in Beyond she is open to letting herself feel them feels.

One neat detail they snuck in is that Hobie has blue laces on his shoes. In Punk subcultures, having blue shoelaces means you've killed a Police Officer, and we know that Hobie's Captain Stacy is dead. While it can mean he was the one to do it, I prefer the theory that he feels resonsible for his death, and so goes out of his way to look out for Gwen out of guilt for letting his Captain Stacy die.

It's real cute that the animators added in Gwen cringing at herself. Like when she first meets up with Miles and says something about him having a growth spurt, and when she calls him mom by her first name you can see her immediately cringe at herself for saying it. I love the amount of detail all the creators put into this film.

"I don't believe in consistency" because things are nuanced and applying the same solution to different problems is the work of the state. He let's Gwen crash with him because she's homeless. Not to mention in his universe Gwen Stacy is a legend, it's mentioned in his comics. So he respects her both for her power and as an ally. He even sees Miles as a fellow revolutionary. Miles broke a canon event! Then there's the DIY aspect, a huge part of punk culture, and a not small part of revolution. He knows that the watches are THE means of control, transportation, and surveillance. What better way to build your own, non-regulated, watch than to steal the parts from under Miguel's nose? To clarify. Gwen and MJ are totally different people. MJ doesn't actually usually die, she's usually Peter Parker's wife and they work out. Gwen Stacy is the one that usually dies. SpiderGwen is the exception because she's spider woman but in exchange peter parker died. Peter B had his kid with MJ but he most likely had a relationship with a Gwen Stacy at some point that ended in her dying before he met MJ. Hope that helps

To explain a little bit: Miguel is kind of an anomaly himself. He didn't became Spiderman by being bit by a rafioactive spider like most of other Spidermen. In his origin story, he's been trapped to become addicted to a drug that fixed itself on a molecular level and if he doesn't consume it regularly, he just dies. So, as he was working as a scientist doing genetic research on Peter Parker's DNA, he tried to fix his condition to get rid of the drug. But it didn't turned out great and he sorta became this special spiderman (thus making it really ironic him calling Miles "an anomaly/mistake") So yes he has claws and his fangs aren't werewolf or vampire ones but spider ones with a paralysing venom. And that's why he doesn't have a spider-sense too

I think you misunderstood some things a bit. Miles IS a legitemate anomaly, Miguel isn't saying that just because. Remember the Spot saying: "I ran a test on this collider, and brought a spider (spider 42) from another world (Earth-42) to this one. It bit you, and it made you spiderman!" And as Miguel himself says: "That spider wasn't supposed to bite you! It was supposed to bite someone else (Miles 42), and now because it bit you, there is a world with no spiderman to defent it! (Earth-42)" And this is exactly why Miles is sent to the wrong dimwnsion at the end. That device reads your dna and sends you to the right universe. But since Miles has the DNA of Spider 42, he gets sent to Earth-42. To the world that he inadvertently took their spiderman from.

I think it's super sweet all the drawing he did of Gwen. Cause unlike her, he didn't have a photo of the two of them. He thought he'd never see her again and drawing her was the *only* way to preserve her image and his memories of her. Not to mention the art is *gorgeous* , there's one where she's just like standing there and he drew a little himself staring at her with starry eyes like "wow", it's so cute.

My favorite funny moment was when The Spot kicked himself and fell into a scary portal before he could finish his sentence. Also, you gotta admit that the one spot that makes up his face turning into a little dot was kinda cute. I also liked how cartoony the first fight was. Between spinning in the car wash to the Foam Party becoming an actual foam party with Miles and Spot “dancing” to the kid taking off his mask, I couldn’t stop laughing the first time around. The Lego sequence was put together not by a team of animators but rather by a 14-year-old kid named Preston Mutanga. Lenny was voiced by Ziggy Marley, one of Bob Marley’s children. When Hobie says he hates the a.m. and the P.M, he’s respectively talking about the morning and the Prime Minister. Pavitr had been Spider-Man for only six months and had it pretty easy for him up to this point. If Captain Singh was killed in Pavitr’s presence, he would’ve been affected by the loss like every other Spider-Hero. Three facts about Pavitr: 1.) He wasn’t bitten by a radioactive spider. Rather his powers are magic based. 2.) He fights using an Indian martial art called Kalaripayattu. A small animation team from Kerala, India was tasked to help animate Pavitri's movements. 3.) His Spidey mask has design inspirations from Theyyam, a Hindu ritual from Kerala. Malala Windsor, the Spider-Woman with the hijab, is an original character created for this movie. She was never introduced in the comics, but now she must have her own run. Metro Boomin’ made a cameo as his own Spidersona. He curated the soundtrack for this film. Peter is a great mentor but also an irresponsible father for bringing Mayday to a steel mill with all kinds of equipment that can easily harm her. Miguel has the best of intentions with preventing the multiverse from collapsing, but I didn’t like that he called Miles a mistake and blamed him for everything that happened. Miles never asked to get bitten by a radioactive spider, but he’s doing his best and making the most of the situation. And finally, it’s weird but also cool that Earth-42’s version of J. Jonah Jameson and The Daily Bugle would actually support a Spider-Man rather than call him a menace all the time. Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally slated for March of next year. Unfortunately due to the ongoing writers and actors strike, voice recording has been delayed until further notice. The good news is that animation is still underway, but hopefully the artists onboard don’t get screwed this time.

The reason Miles was able to get away so easily from all those spiders wasn’t because he's the strongest (he's literally the least experienced one there), it's because none of them were actually trying hard to catch him. Miguel was the only one not holding back, that's why Peter kept telling Miguel to "go easy on him", because they all were. Edit: Just remembered that I didn’t answer the question about the sketch book. Personally, I think it depends on what they drew. I would be flattered if it was drawing of my face or whatever outfits that they liked me in (like what Miles drew) but I would be creeped out if the drawings were me in private places and/or had unnecessary focus drawn to my body.

Also another point I saw at some point: since the Spider-Sense is a reactionary ability it meant that while Miles was able to rely on Spider-Sense, the other Spiderpeople weren’t able to use it since he was running away instead of attacking him. This is also how Miguel is able to chase him so well, as both in the comic book lore and this movie (as demonstrated by Renaissance Vulture with Gwen’s “knock yourself out” joke), Miguel entirely lacks a Spider-Sense, meaning he’s had to rely only on his natural, non-reactionary (actionary?) senses.

@@adamtheriault6743 It's just a canon Spider-man quality, he goes easy on *all* his enemies because he doesn’t want to kill them unintentionally. This was revealed in a comic (funny enough Miguel was there for the aftermath of this) where Doc Ock switched bodies with Peter and struggled to not break everything he touched and realized that Peter had been automatically holding back the whole time. This was also revealed when Kraven once pushed Peter too far and Peter straight-up tried to kill him, Kraven ends up forfeiting that fight very quickly after realizing how easily Spider-Man could kill him if he actually *wants* to (he didn’t think Peter would ever go that far, but was proven wrong). There is also several obvious indications that Miles is not as experienced and that he’s still a child compared to them just from their body movements alone. The T-Rex and the cat might also be exceptions simply because they're animals, but the other spiders were absolutely not trying nearly as hard as they could have. (all of the Spiders share too many similarities for them to distrust each other enough to hurt each other, we see this by Peter B. saying Miguel has "no bite" despite the fact he very clearly does, the trust seems almost instinctual)

I absolutely LOVE that when the creators themselves were struggling to pick a villain, that when someone recommended the Spot, they didn’t take it seriously. So both in and out of universe everyone has been dogging on Spot thinking he’s a joke- all around disrespect 😂 I also absolutely LOVE that the voice actor for Spot is Jason Schwartzman and how they distort his voice when he’s raging. And J.K. Simmons is obviously the one and only J.Jonah Jameson still everywhere in every dimension. Also interestingly enough is J.K. Simmons voiced Klaus and Jason voiced Jesper in the Christmas movie Klaus (which I don’t remember if Billy reacted to or not around the past Xmas Szns), so my personal head canon is that why is Spiderman and Christmas are so close and go hand in hand. The last Spiderverse movie they had the Spiderman Christmas album constantly getting promoted WHICH IS REAL; you can stream and listen to!, No Way Home happens around Christmas time in the movie, the release for No Way Home was right around Christmas(Dec 17), Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse was also released a few days before Christmas (also Dec 17), in this movie (SMATSV) we see Gwen celebrating Christmas with her dad and the Parkers, even Spider-Man’s first fight with a powerful boss level villain (Mephisto) was about saving Christmas and the Christmas spirit. Idk why Stan Lee made Spider-Man synonymous with Christmas in the Marvel/Comic’s universe (maybe to make Spiderman even more relatable), but it’s a nice touch to the Spider-Man + Christmas nod :)

Spiderman 2099, Miguel O'Hara isn't like the other Spidermen. He wasn't bite by a radioactive spider he actively spliced his human DNA with Spider DNA in an experiment to recreate the original Spiderman. The experiment gave him non traditional spider powers he's got spider strength, webs, endurance, speed etc but he can't stick to walls he has claw his way up with his claws. He also has fangs that secret paralytic venom.

So to explain the "Original Anomaly" thing, the spider that bit Miles was taken from Earth-42, meaning 42 no longer gets a Spider-Man. The spider came to Earth-1610B where it bit Miles, and then shortly after, Spider-Man, or Peter Benjamin Parker, dies saving Miles. Miles then takes up the mantle of Spider-Man in Earth 1610B. But back on Earth-42, there is no Spider-Man to control the crime, so everything is darker, shadier, and Miles-42 inherits the persona of the Prowler from his uncle. Because of this, everything Miles does is seen as wrong by Miguel, as he was never supposed to be Spider-Man in the first place.

mj isnt the one that dies in spiderman. before peter parker dated mj, his girlfriend was gwen stacey, who died while peter was trying to save her. spidergwen in this movie comes from a comic where gwen had gotten bitten instead of peter. thats why gwen said falling for spiderman "doesnt end well" because most of the other versions of gwen have died also the reason miles has a different last name than his dad is explained in the comics. apparently miles's grandfather wasnt a great guy and his dad didnt want his son to have his last name so they used his mom's last name instead. i think in the movie they made it canon that his dad also changed his last name between the first and second movies because his badge in the first one says "jeff davis" and in the second one its "jeff morales", its possible that might just be an animation error tho

When Spot tells Miles that the spider was from a different dimension, you see the spider on a table next to earth 42 Miles before it goes to our main Miles dimension. 42 Miles was supposed to be Spider-Man but instead is the Prowler and thus main Miles is an anomaly.

36:00 - 36:02 You know, I don't see any people say this, but I feel it should be brought up here. Because considering how a good third of this movie tackled Gwen's story, hearing Miles say that, I personally began to realize that it's here where we come to see the true tragedy of Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen. In the beginning of the movie, I hear many are say that it was George Stacy's actions of holding his daughter at gunpoint and attempting to arrest her that increased her inability to find anyone she can count on and run to, feeling she’s better off on her own, therefore leading her to leave her universe. And to this I agree. George was wrong in doing what he did, especially as it made Gwen feel pushed away. BUT, it would be foolish to put this is ALL on George's shoulders, and relieve Gwen of HER own actions. This sequel succeeds at making Gwen so likable and sympathetic, and allows us to empathize with her, even when she makes some morally questionable decisions. But, what I consider so brilliant, is how the movie subverts this right at this point. You see, in the beginning, you'll notice that George Stacy did try to help his daughter, even simply by talking to her, when she saw she was not looking like her usual self after her universe's Peter died. But when that didn't work, he thought that by bringing her best friend's murderer suspect to justice would help give her some sort of peace. Because deep down, he saw a part of himself in Gwen, who would want to do whatever he can to make the city a better place. But this gets all stamped out when he saw that Spider-Woman, who from his point of view believed to have murdered her best friend, just so happens to be his own daughter. Therefore, he couldn't come to terms with everything that his own daughter hid from him for the past year or so. But in retrospect, there was also a part of her dad in Gwen, that made her at times see that there's only one option to any solution, and how anybody who says otherwise must be stopped. Who saw that the only way to do the right thing was on HER TERMS. On the surface, this sequel is the tale of how a teenage superhero turned into the person she is, due to losing those she cared about, after being kicked when she was down, after believing that she has nobody to go to, after believing that she can't tell ANYTHING TO ANYONE if it risks revealing some very huge secrets. However, this is complete nonsense. Because there were those who weren't trying to kick her down, who simply wanted to see how she was doing without having to say too much, who did care about her still, who wanted to offer her to be a part of their lives too, still believed in her, and didn't want to let her down. Yet, it was always the setbacks that drove Gwen to allow herself to be languishing over what she lost and become more selfish in not trying to communicate with others, and lie to those who thought she meant so much to them. Therefore, as a result of doing so, she ended up doing the exact same thing, letting down those who trusted her and cared about her, again and again. All that glimmer of good we saw about Gwen getting consumed by her polarized view of the world. But at this moment, hearing what Miles tells Gwen, filled with anger, upon realizing that someone, who despite not seeing her for a while, saw her as a friend, still trusted her, and saw her as someone who she always thought others weren't like back in her home, has been deceiving him. The animation showing Miles's expressions and actor Shameik Moore's delivery is just perfect. Not vindictive, but more frustrated and unsure, due to feeling so blind. As if he's saying, "How could you let me down like that, Gwen?", "How could I have trusted someone like you?", or "After everything we just went through Gwen, this is what I get?". And it's here where we see how everything Gwen believed in, gets thrown at her face, as she realized that she doesn't even follow her own principles. Again, both the animated expressions and Hailee Steinfeld's performance, when later being force to come clean to Miles, speaks for itself. In Miles's eyes, she begins to see all the people she equally let down. Including someone who sees all the trust and friendship he placed in her, being stomped out. THIS, being her finally seeing that this will be her life she would forever keep living in with her distorted thinking. But instead of feeling like she has become better, like the rest of the Spider-People, she only feels shame and regret upon realizing what she's doing. Which leads to Miguel sending her home, believing she was a mistake to bring on his team and having to face her dad. To which the two manage to see each other's flaws and reconciling after. But now, she must do the same for Miles. Beyond the Spider-Verse, is what I hope will not just be a movie about saving Miles and his parents and fixing the multi-verse, but for Gwen to find and tell Miles how sorry she is for letting him down too. All in all, what do you guys think?

This trilogy is kinda like our generations Back to the future. The first one is the masterpiece. It was its own self contained story with a simple idea. This one is what took that idea and explored the possibilities. Myles just like Marty go into the alternate Dimension where his fathers dead. Ends on a good cliffhanger. This is the first time I was genuinely excited for a movie. I’m only 28 I unfortunately didn’t get to see all my favorite classics in theater. This trilogy definitely is top tier for our era. 15:41 I wish we did get Ryan in this because at least half of the Spiders must have either a friendship, frenemy, or some contact with Deadpool. Maybe we'll see it in the third film. 20:08 question- would the canon event even happen as the building falling was crucial, but it may not have fallen if Miles hadn''t been there. So then maybe the canon event only happened because of Miles so the captain may have lived longer than Miguel and the rest think. Also, Miles has already lost someone, his uncle, so to lose his dad doesn't quiet make since. Unless his dad dying is to balance out the captain living. And another thing, maybe Miles is the exception to this rule Miguel has convinced them all. There is always an exception to the rule and Miles could be that exception.
